EXCLUSIVE: Exclusive Media Group will produce and fully finance So Undercover, an action comedy vehicle for Miley Cyrus that will begin production in December. What Happens In Vegas helmer Tom Vaughan will direct a script by Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleep‘s Allan Loeb and Steven Pearl (The Switch). Cyrus will play a tough, street-smart private eye hired by the FBI to go undercover in a college sorority. The film will be produced by Exclusive co-chairmen Guy East and Nigel Sinclair, along with Scarlet Fire Entertainment’s Loeb and Pearl, and Tish Cyrus. Jodi Zuckerman-Weiner is exec producer (for Cyrus’ production company Hope Town) along with Rob Cowan. Exclusive’s Tobin Armbrust, who found the project, will also be a producer. Exclusive Films International will sell territories at AFM, while Cyrus’ reps at CAA will make a domestic deal.
While Cyrus has become a phenomenon because of the US-generated Hannah Montana, East and Sinclair said that her brand has broadened considerably beyond the States, making an attractive package for offshore sales at AFM. “She has become a worldwide superstar in every field she has become involved in, from movies to fashion, to music and TV,” East said. “Her show is not only the most successful cable TV series, it has been released in 150 countries and 26 languages. And her movies have grossed $630 million worldwide. She has become the biggest female brand in the world, and this has the potential to be a massive audience movie.” CAA put the package together with Exclusive.

Clearly, you haven’t been paying attention: Hollywood casts based on money, not acting ability. She can sing a bit, I’ll grant you, but I’ve seen her “act” and “dance” and there’s about as much acting and dancing in there as there is orange juice in Sunny D.
Actually most Hollywood casting is done based on a wish list of who the producers want and the hot names always top the list, then they see who is available from that list and then who will do it for the least money from those that are available. Unless a studio is deliberately making a movie to flop or languish on the shelf for years so they can write it off as a loss on their end of year taxes then they will throw as little money at each project as possible to get it done.

I don’t know what im more insulted about – the fact that EMG thinks anyone would buy Miley as “tough and street smart” or the fact that deadline considers this an Exclusive (it’s been on Breakdowns for over a month WTF!!!)
Well, as a Miley fan, I knew she was about to start a movie, but I didn’t know which one. I haven’t even heard about this one. So this IS news! I vaguely remember this title being in developement, but never with Miley’s name attached. I always like to go to Miley’s movies once by myself, and once with a group.
I already know that Miley is smart. You can see it in interviews. And I already know that Miley is somewhat tough. You have to be in this tough business.

I don’t know that ‘found’ accurately describes EMG’s acquisition of this project; so much as a willingness to expend the vast amount of $ necessary to get going a project that was specced 10 mos ago and has since languished (available to a higher bidder), while financials were finalized. Virtually every small distributor/financier was offered a crack at producing this and all but EMG passed, because of how profit-prohibitive were the rich demands made by Cyrus’s team; namely her Mother and Producers were already attached. Which is why they brought it exclusively (no pun intended) to being with to mini-distributors, who they knew who would make a deal more advantageous to their/her own bottom line. After whatever vast P+A expenditure accords with a project like this one – without a later, studio partnership – it’s going to take a significant net before EMG reaps real rewards.
I agree and yet, so far, every single one of Miley’s projects have been profitable for all the parties involved. So I am going to have faith that this one will be as well. The outlay for this movie will actually be peanuts compared to some of her upcoming movies, like Wings, and maybe Family Bond.
I’m a fan of Allen Loeb but WTF?? This sounds terrible. It sounds like the House Bunny Plot except with a cop….and why would you cast Cyrus as a street-smart tough PI. She’s not even a good actress on Hannah Montana. I hope this movie never gets made and If it does its not gonna do well cause it sounds awful

Dakota Fanning is a great actor, but she would have a tougher time than Miley pulling off this role since she would be trying to play a woman in her twenties and is even less action oriented an actor than Miley. This role will help show if Miley is really serious about acting because if she is she will put in the time for the weapons and fight training to make herself believable in the role and if she does not then she will deserve the hit her career will take.

Sadly, iCarly is the number one cable show… but okay. And yes it does sound like Veronica Mars… in fact it sounds kind of like episode 2 of season 3, “My Big Fat Greek Rush Week.” Hopefully it will be good, though.

This sounds like a cliche story, and if I am to believe Miley Cyrus as a tough street smart private eye, then her acting has to have vastly improved.
What exactly are you basing your opinion of her acting on? A made for kids TV show on Disney that does not exactly ask cast members for much except that they be funny and goofy? Her one movie “The Last Song” where she had a script to work with that was extremely limited on dialogue to begin with and a director that asked only for her to stand around and make angry faces to play the character? You are acting like an employer who interviews the job applicant fresh out of college and then tells them they need to get experience before they can get a job knowing they can’t get the experience if nobody will hire them in the first place. She can’t improve her acting if she does not get roles other than Hannah Montana.
