Myriad Pictures has acquired offshore rights to the Vivi Friedman-directed comedy The Family Tree. Scripted by Mark Lisson, the pic stars Hope Davis, Dermot Mulroney, Selma Blair, Christina Hendricks, Max Thieriot, Jane Seymour, Rachael Leigh Cook and Bow Wow. Davis plays a restless housewife who bumps her head during an illicit encounter with her next door neighbor and loses her memory. Allan Jones, J. Todd Harris, Kathy Weiss and Mark Lisson produced it. Myriad will screen the pic at AFM and shop it. IP Advisors sold the pic and is brokering North American rights.

Vivi is amazingly talented and a super-nice person–she deserves all the best!!!
Sounds like “Samantha Who?” meets “The Middle”. Not exactly an inspirational cast either. Jane Seymour and Christina Hendricks are eye candy, but not exactly talented actresses.
You’re a twit, Dave. Hope Davis is one of the most dependably honest and enjoyable actresses around, but you just dismiss her (and everyone else in the film) as being “not exactly inspirational.” I have no idea whether this film is good or bad. But I wonder how much creative brilliance you’re brought into the world.
A darkly funny script with an excellent cast. Chi McBride and Keith Carradine are great.
This is only the beginning of what you will see from this woman – just wait – she is a gem and has a mind and eye that Holly-regurgitate-everything-wood needs!
Caught a private screening of FAMILY TREE and thought it was a terrifically entertaining indie film. The cast is strong throughout, especially leads Dermot Mulroney and Hope Davis. Overall, a sharply written, dark family comedy that deserves a solid release.
Saw a screening, it was darkly funny as only the best independents manage to be nowadays. Performances were solid bordering on terrific. A much lighter “American Beauty” about the turgid waters most families are treading, but ends with hope and satisfying resolution. A gem that I hope won’t be overlooked.
I was also able see one of the screenings- Exellent! cast ( especially Dermot Mulroney) and dir.Vivi Friedman really shows of her talent. Looking forward for her future projects.
I agree with NytWryter: “Family Tree” is the best dark comedy about a modern dysfunctional family since “American Beauty.” Fun, sometimes absurdist action with surprising twists, the story remains grounded in believable characters, appealingly portrayed by a terrific cast. A strong, well-written romp, this is what original independent filmmaking is all about.
