EXCLUSIVE: He just starred on an NBC drama series with comic book mythology. Now Heroes star Milo Ventimiglia is back at the network as the star/executive producer of Rest, a new drama project based on a comic book series he co-created. Ventimiglia will executive produce the project, which has received a script commitment with film/TV/Broadway producers Craig Zadan and Neil Meron (Footloose, Drop Dead Diva). Also executive producing are Ventimiglia’s producing partner at Divide Pictures Russ Cundiff and Marc Silvestri and Matt Hawkins from Top Cow, the comic book publisher behind Rest.
Writer Philip Levens (Smallville), who will also executive produce, is adapting the comic, which was created by Ventimiglia, Cudiff and Mark Powers based on a script by Mike O’Sullivan. It centers on John Barret (Ventimiglia), a normal twentysomething guy in New York City who spends every waking hour working. He enrolls in a testing program for a drug that eliminates the need of sleep and soon becomes addicted to it, which helps him accomplish more but also leads to serious consequences. Since the comic launched in 2008, there has been a lot of chatter among fans that Barret looks a lot like Ventimiglia and that Rest would be turned into TV series or film. Ventimiglia and Levens are with CAA.

So the character does Meth? Stays awake and cleans up the streets. Wow. I’m sure parents will be into this.
“American Dad” had a similar themed episode called “Stan Time”. Stan took pills that removed his lack of sleep and he was then able to accomplish much more before it backfired.
I used to like Ventimiglia, but as “Heroes” wore on I don’t know if it was his acting or poor writing that caused his bad acting. But he kind of lost it toward the middle of the show’s run.
Sounds a lot like “The Dark Fields.”
This guy is a movie star in the making. NBC is lucky to land something with him. His producing partner, Russ, is also one of the greatest guys in the business.
Thanks for the scoop, Milo!
Every girl wants him. Every guy wants to be him. It’s so nice to see him back in the spotlight. Russ Cundiff will be the next Bruckheimer if he wants it.
Yeah, very subtle.
First of all, the guy can’t act. Second of all, if The Cape tanks there’s no chance this ever gets anywhere near the schedule.
Wow, “movie star in the making,” “every guy wants to be him.”
Are we TALKING about the same Milo Ventimiglia?? The guy who weighs about 140 pounds and walks around scowling, not acting? I just watched him in a movie called “Pathology” the other night, and he was the worst thing about it, which is saying quite a lot.
And besides, he was 30 years old hooking up with 18 year old Hayden Panetierre, and that’s very skeevy, Chester behavior, I don’t care how “mature she is for her age.”
He is a good actor and he refuses to play the im so pretty card to get him roles. He might not get the really good roles right now but he is respected in the industry which will keep him working longer than any other pretty boy actor
He actually wants more non-scowling roles. And we will get to see him in one in the upcoming web series “The Temp Life.” http://www.thetemplife.tv/
As far as Rest goes, the comic is great. I’m sure the show will be too.
Ummm, yeah this sounds pretty close to Dark Fields. I guess since this one was a comic…
I don’t see a compelling premise here. Development hell awaits.
I don’t want to be him.
I’ve read the book, its okay. Wish them luck with this. But didn’t devils due not top cow publish this? Or did devils due publish through top cow.
devil’s due published it originally but didn’t promote the book at all and since milo works with top cow, they bought the project.
Russ Cundiff is hardly a reluctant young Bruckheimer… based on what? Ego? And if Milo was going to be movie star? He would’ve invented Facebook.
The character in the comic looks like Milo, because it was drawn to look like Milo, for this exact reason.
Hey, let’s give it a chance before bad-mouthing this project. I wish him all the luck in the world. Actually Devils Due was the original publisher, but it was moved to Top Cow.
The comic was drawn like Milo for this exact reason? Gimme a break – I don’t think even the loftiest of artists working on an independent book in the comics/graphic novel industry would pencil a character to replicate the image of a television star thinking that it would lead to the person being cast for a series.
I’ve heard of roles being written for specific stars ‘hoping’ they’d take the gig but never an artist drawing the likeness of one for a comic book hoping the same – and even if it was true (which it obviously isn’t given the obscurity of the book pre-top cow) – there would be no forecasting that the actor (Milo) would pick up the role at all.
Don’t be delusional.
Milo co-wrote it…
a movie star? gimma a break. he can’t act and has no charisma – two essentials for movie stardom. it’s all about skills and/or emotional power he ain’t got either. not even close.
I can’t help but feel bad for this guy, who is sort of beautiful by the way and I don’t mean his by his physical appearance, however I find it strange that all these insults are coming from the same ip a….. I guess a hater can also be a stalker, go figure.
I know. I always think it’s weird when people feel the need to criticize people so harshly. It’s silly. I think Milo and Russ are great and wish them the best of luck.
