EXCLUSIVE: Seinfeld alum Spike Feresten is returning to NBC with a new half-hour project starring a stand-up comedian. The untitled comedy, toplined by Nick Thune, revolves around a group of twentysomethings new to Los Angeles seen through the eyes of the newest arrival, played by Thune. Feresten created and is writing the project, which is being produced by UMS. He is executive producing with 3 Arts which manages both Feresten and Thune, while Thune serves as a co-executive producer. WME-repped Thune, who has a Web series, Nick’s Big Show, has appeared in such movies as
Knocked Up and Unaccompanied Minors. He returns to NBC after starring opposite Matthew Broderick in the network’s comedy pilot Beach Lane in the spring. CAA-repped Feresten worked on Seinfeld during the hit comedy’s last 3 seasons. He recently hosted and executive produced a late-night talk show on Fox and, along with Dana Carvey, wrote, executive produced and starred in a sketch comedy pilot for the network this past development season.

I like Spike. Loved his Seinfeld work and also Talkshow. Still can’t believe Fox axed it to make way for the trainwreck that was Wanda (the show not the comedian, I love her). Show above sounds like a take-off of It’s Like…You Know, which was a Seinfeld knockoff created by another Seinfeld alum, Peter Mehlman. But there are no new ideas, right? We shall see.
Why in the world is anyone making a deal, any deal with NBC right now – especially this week? Unless Greenblatt is already making decisions very quietly in the background, who the hell would want a “yes” from a team that will all essentially be history(God willing) soon enough?
NBC is like Congress – lame ducks – before AND after the elections!
Nick is a funny dude! Hope it goes to series.
Those last 3 seasons of Seinfeld sure were the best, right?
Spike’s next funny joke will be his first.
Does Spike go into his pitches wearing a ski mask? Cause he stole $15m from Big Ticket TV in an overall deal, and never even got a pilot made…
Uhh, Spike is one funny white man. Funny, funny, funny. Yee-haw. Gimme a chicken bone.
I saw online he wrote the Soup Nazi episode for Seinfeld. One of the best ever. I look forward to reading this one.
I also really liked Spike’s show…original and funny. However, this news about Nick Thune is GREAT! I’ve been a fan of this kid since watching some of his online material…he is hilarious. Kudos to NBC for recognizing true comedic talent. Frankly, it’s shocking that CW, ABC, Fox and CBS routinely overlook actual “funny” people. Comedy isn’t easy to pull off, but when you have the innate look and temperament, that’s half the battle. Can’t wait for this one.
OMGiminee!! I’m so excited for this! Im a big Nick Thune fan and I think he’s hilarious! I can’t wait for this show to air. It’s only a matter of time before Ncik gets to be a huge star, and the world will see how amazing he is. I say this in a non-crush way, I’m just impressed with his work and think he’s a nice person (had the pleasure of meeting him)…. Yay, I’m so excited for him!
Spike Feresten is funny, alluring, and charming as hell!!! He was a music man that went comedy. Looking forward to this show really making it! Spike has the looks and the brains. Hope he makes lots of money.
Nick has worked very hard to get where he is. I am excited ! My personal favorites Lobster, phone tag.
Spike is a very talented writer, and Nick is an all-around funny guy. This is well-deserved.
Worked with Nick Thune in a movie over the summer and he was funny as hell in it. He was nice to the entire crew as well.
I hate that he’s better looking than me but I just watched his video and its really funny. He’s got that Van Wilder vibe which will be refreshing for a sitcom lead as opposed to the “everyman” guy, the “schlub” or the “neurotic guy with anxiety”.
Nick Thune is OFF THE CHAIN!
This show is going to be so popular our children’s children will someday be writing “next generation” spin offs of it.
Oh, wow, an ensemble sit-com about a group of VERY INTERESTING would be stand- up comics who reside in the VERY INTERESTING west side of Los Angeles. People in their twenties who reside in LA and desire to be stand-up comics are always VERY INTERESTING subjects to write a show about. Spike is also VERY INTERESTING. Not just in it for the money — as his soon to be published five hundred page novel on the hijinks surrounding the signing of the Treaty of Brest-Litovsk proves. Good luck Spike with the VERY INTERESTING new house in Rustic Canyon. You earned it.
Don’t be so hard on the greedy, unscrupulous writer. Blame the dim witted, empty vessel network executive.
Nick Thune will surely be the next huge comic star. I laughed my head off watching his stand up act. I can’t wait to see this show! (think positive, Nick!)
