EXCLUSIVE: Rachael Leigh Cook is set as the female lead opposite Eric McCormack in the TNT drama pilot Perception. The project, from ABC Studios, centers on Dr. Geoffrey Pierce (McCormack), an eccentric, frequently erratic and absolutely brilliant university professor in neuropsychiatry who helps the FBI solve complex cases. Cook will play sexy, sharp-tonged and smart FBI agent Kate Rossi who recruited her former professor Pierce to work for the bureau. The setup appears similar to that on Castle between Nathan Fillion’s Richard Castle and Stana Katic’s Kate Beckett and on The Mentalist between Simon Baker’s Patrick Jane and Robin Tunney’s Teresa Lisbon. Kenneth Biller and Mike Sussman co-wrote the pilot, with Alan Poul directing. Cook, who started off as a teen actress, recently recurred on USA’s Psych.

Why don’t they just change the name of the show to ‘Derivative’.
I believe that title may have already been taken…
OK, so this character isn’t just brilliant, he’s ABSOLUTELY brilliant? He’s erratic AND eccentric?
Cook plays an FBI agents who’s somehow sharp-tongued AND smart?
Thank you TNT for such an impressive list of redundant adjectives.
The description of this show sounds like an sketch writer pitching a parody of a bad show. “What if House and Bones had a baby…”
Great to see her getting work, especially since her Fearless pilot at The WB was never picked up back in the early 2000′s.
Hold on, hold on one minute. I buy that he’s eccentric, and even erratic, and maybe, just MAYBE, I buy that he’s brilliant — but he’s *absolutely* brilliant? That just takes the cake!
this made me chuckle.
A network can’t name a show when they themselves don’t understand the meaning of that word!
LOL!
She is adorable and the shows they are copying are among my favorites, so I expect I will really enjoy this.
rachael leigh cook? who dat?
This remake reminds me of something George S. Kaufman used to say to his cast, a few weeks into the run of a play: “Dress rehearsal tomorrow morning, 10:00 AM, to take out the improvements.”
Carlino was a crazy genius — these guys are hacks.
I know Simon Baker.
I’ve worked with Simon Baker.
Simon Baker is a friend of mine.
Eric McCormack is no Simon Baker.
Sounds more like Wire in the Blood knockoff.
Kenny Biller is DA Bomb!
Best. Showrunner. Ever.
TNT lucky to be in biz with a man of his esteem.
Am I the only one who find Eric Mccormack incredibly creepy? I can’t even look at him
Rachel Leigh Cook is very underutilized in Hollywood. She will do well in such a vehicle.
Come on? Cook? Really? She’s been a bland actresss for a decade now. She should have never gotten as far as she has. Boring choice and like all her projects, this will die a slow death as well. I hate when producers dip into the 90′s teen pool. Discover somebody new !
It’s Castle, but with House taking Castle’s place. Yawn!

Rachael Leigh Cook should be working ALL the time. She is beautiful and charming and a good actress. They are LUCKY to have her. I will watch this and “Rizolli and Isles” …..2 for TNT for me!
Eleventh Hour, anyone?
If Rachael Leigh Cook is in it… I’m watching it.
I’m with RLCFan, she should be working all the time.
Rachael Leigh Cook should not be underestimated. She has done exceptional work in several independent films many of her detractors would dismiss without watching. And to every better-known film aimed at a teen audience she has brought charm and humanity. She may not succeed in the new series, but I am rooting for her and for everyone associated with the show.
Rachael Leigh Cook is very underrated, and unfortunately she has only been in a couple projects that are note worthy…1:Get Carter, 2:That anti drug commercial she did years ago! I would love to see her in something that really plays to her talents and this new TV serious isn’t it.
Rachael Leigh Cook is a great actress. Her career may not have hit a high note at times but she kept on working and stayed with it. Good for her. Eric McCormack will be great. Why belittle someones craft that the majority of us know nothing about.
I automatically turn off any show with left wing Bush bashing. I thought it was a good show, but I DO NOT watch shows to have politics brought it. Never going to watch again, going to get my friends to drop it too. KEPP YOUR POLITICAL VIEWS OUT OF MY SHOWS!
