Sunday Night Football‘s sizzling season continued with another highly-rated game last night. The Giants-Eagles face-off drew a 15.9 overnight rating/24 share, easily winning the night for NBC. That was up 31% from last year’s Week 11 game and the best for a November primetime game in 12 years.
Airing against the game, ABC’s 38th Annual American Music Awards (4.3/11) were down 22% from last year to hit their lowest 18-49 rating ever. The network touted the awards telecast’s gains among young viewers, 12% in teens, and 19% in kids 2-11. That is to be expected given that the night’s big winner was tween heartthrob Justin Bieber.
Fox, whose 8-9 PM comedies were boosted by an NFL game overrun last week, saw double-digit declines with no football lead-in this Sunday. The Simpsons (2.9/7) was down 26%, while The Cleveland Show (2.4/6) dropped 23%. Family Guy (3.3/7) and American Dad (2.3/5) were also affected by the increased competition from the big SNF game and the AMAs, down 3% and 8%, respectively.
CBS, which had a football overrun this Sunday, once again had its lineup shifted, this time by 12 minutes. The 7 PM hour, which featured a 12-minute football overrun leading into 60 Minutes, drew a 4.6/13 in 18-49. The 60 Minutes/Amazing Race combo at 8 PM averaged a 3.1/8, followed by Amazing Race/Undercover Boss (3.3/7) and Undercover Boss/CSI Miami (2.4/6). While the numbers are approximate, it appears that Boss has bounced back from its series low last week (2.7/6), while CSI: Miami is hovering around (and possibly below) its all-time low from last week (2.4/6 in the fast nationals, 2.3 in the finals).

csi miami is still the highest rated 10p show in the demo for cbs.
also simpsons had treehouse of horrors last week which also explains the drop.
these ratings analysis really could be a lot stronger.
CSI:Miami the highest rated 10pm show in the demo? Obviously you have no idea what you are talking about.
Hawaii-5-0 & The Mentalist are rating higher. ‘The Good wife’ is getting around the same ratings as ‘Miami’.
I hope no one cheated off you in math class.
Last week CSI miami pulled a 2.6 in the demo which is the same as H50. The Good Wife had a 2.2. If you need help with math check out Kumon learning centers, they’re really helpful with the basics like this.
I have a 12 year old daughter so I stuck it out with those AMA’s. Man oh man I can see why music pirating is on the decline (even those sales aren’t picking up accordingly). The music is horrible and I feel bad for the artists because I think they know the material is so bad they have to surround themselves with a bunch of gimmicks to distract from sub-par songs. (Does Justin Beiber really need a choir?)
ABC’s AMA gain with 2-11 year olds and teens explains how Justin Beiber walks away with 4 awards. The drop probably happened because there were really no performers anyone was really interested seeing, at least thats how it is for me and guess what I fall in the 18-49 age range.
I’m willing to bet very few people even realized the AMA’s were on. I wonder if they realize the AMA’s are *still around*. This show gets ZERO publicity and marketing. Big mistake moving it from Jan/Feb.
And BTW, enough with the belly-aching about “oh, today’s music is awful” Face facts, Justin Bieber is what’s sells, like it or not.
Hate to say it, if but if there was an British-type awards show honoring the likes of Muse, MGMT, Arcade Fire and My Morning Jacket, it would get ratings lower than your local public access station.
Hi Kevin- no need to make fun on anyone but you should check your sources. Last week CSI: Miami did a 2.3 in the A18-49 demo. That was a series low with that age break. This morning’s number is highly unreliable due to the football overrun. Additionally that 2.4/6 number that Nellie is quoting that it did last week was its PRELIM number because as I stated earlier its final rating was a 2.3/6. Just sharing the correct ratings info.
AMA has been around a long time.
It had one of the lowest ratings, because the current music scene is horrible. Absolutely horrible.
True music fans will not tune in to see minuscule talents, and I use the term talent loosely, like Bieber, Cyrus, Perry. These are acts that have self life of couple of years and will not even be a footnote in music chronicles.
ABC touting an increase in viewership in age 2-11 is embarrassing for the network.
What were they producing, a kid’s choice award?
Give me Eminem, Justin Timberlake (the real Justin with any musical talent), Beyonce, Pink, Kanye.
Hell, I will even take Britney Spears over these dull, no talent like Kesha.
What the hell happened to the music industry?
Just a few years ago, we had some of the best pop albums with JT’s future sex album.
Now, all we have are marginal acts with auto tuned mess that all have the same beat.
Maybe instead of making movies, Timberlake needs to save the music industry.
