UPDATED: The premiere of TLC’s Sarah Palin’s Alaska last night drew 5 million viewers to become the most watched series premiere ever on the cable network. The documentary series starring the former Alaska governor and vice-presidential candidate and executive produced by Mark Burnett also set a record for a TLC series debut in households with a 3.5 rating. Its 18-49 delivery was 1.6 million. Sarah Palin’s Alaska posted triple-digit rating gains vs. the network’s primetime average in the 9 PM slot, where it 
faced NBC’s Sunday Night Football, ABC’s Desperate Housewives and CBS’ Undercover Boss.
Meanwhile, AMC’s zombie drama The Walking Dead is not slowing down. Airing at 10 PM, the show’s third episode last night averaged 5.1 million viewers, up 9% from last week. In adults 18-49, it held steady at 3.3 million.

We’ve only gained jobs because of the incentives President Obama created w/ HIS stimulus package w/ grants, tax cuts, deductions & rebates for the middle class. The Bush tax cut continuation will create a 700 billion $ deficit & will remain the single largest cause of the US structural deficit. Isn’t that what you people have been complaining about? You’re right… the under $250,000′s don’t provide opportunities for jobs. Afterall, they’re not the ones buying groceries and cars and alarm systems and televisions and computers and, in general, spending their money on the goods and services that the over $250,000 business owners sell. And the under $250,000′s CERTAINLY AREN’T the ones paying from 12% to 20+% interest on living month to month via credit cards. Yes, you’re right– the economy is fueled by rich people buying stuff from other rich people. Okay, the sarcasm is off now. Please *THINK!* Without consumers, there would BE no businesses for the over $250,000′s to run because THERE WOULD BE NO MARKET!!! And yes, the over $250,000′s pay more in taxes because they have more “stake” in the operation of this country (i.e. foreign enemy invades– who loses more monetarily, person A who lives in a $100,000 home and works for XYZ corporation, or the CEO of XYZ corporation who lives in a $1 million home and has $10 million in shares of XYZ?)
At the same time– of course we can’t be completely unappreciative of business owners… they DO provide employment, but I would argue that again, without a market (i.e. the Joe Sixpack consumer) there’d also be no employment. It’s the protection of that market as well as the business owner’s greater assets that implores a greater responsibility in terms of taxes (and FYI business owners don’t generally just absorb increases in taxes, they pass it on to the consumers of their products and services. So please don’t pity the poor business owner who must pay higher taxes– look at the books– the profits are still going to be the same while the prices increase across the board. Funny thing is that when taxes are decreased on the business owner, they MIGHT invest in building the business but they generally don’t lower their prices in return… case in point– the airline “fuel surcharge” which doesn’t seem to float down regardless of the cost of fuel)

To the person who said that the extension of the tax cuts would add $700 B to the deficit, that is true, but its over 10 years. So many politicians forget to mention that point. THe current administration throws the $700B number around to scare everyone. $70B per year is a lot of money, but the extension of the upper income tax cuts will not increase unemployment it will help to decrease it. Companies are sitting on their money because the have no idea what this administration is going to do to them next year. Until we have a little stability, they aren’t going to hire unless its absolutely necessary.

Sarah Palin was the most popular governor in the United States prior to – as you say – becoming a “cynical attempt” to pull Clinton supporters away. She had already achieved success few women (or men) will ever achieve in their lives, far surpassing Obama at that point in time. She gave McCain’s flagging campaign hope, but was not ready for the intense pressure levied at her by the national media. Pressure, I might add, that Obama has yet to feel.
You can say what you wish, but two weeks ago, Palin changed the landscape of American politics. Liberals like you can keep trying to marginalize her, but you do so to your own peril.

Well… let’s see… From the definitions of fascism that I have read from various books, the general concensus is that Fascists are known to support Class collaboration over class conflict. That is to say, they support the definite division of classes rather than trying to get rid of class distinction (that is to say make the society equal). They also support statist nationalism over internationalism. That is to say, they support putting their country first rather than the rest of the world (which is similar to saying my race/countrymen/etc. are better than yours).

If you actually watched the clip, he said 57, then mentioned one more state to visit while also mentioning that he was not going to be visiting Alaska and Hawaii, which brings the total to 60. Seeing as that is the total, I believe he meant to say 47 (the mention of the last three states bringing the total to 50). Most likely an error because of fatigue, but that’s something only he’d be able to answer.

I can research the grades from college for all the candidates in the last election EXCEPT for Obama. So what is all of this supposed proof of smarts or intelligence based on? Do a little reading, his back round is a mystery other then his autobiography about a life that was not all that special.

If you can get past the politics, the caterwalling folksiness of Sarah and the hokey Reality TV filler music and focus on the natural beauty of the Alaskan frontier, the ratings for this show should hold up. Another reason why intelligent people are stupid. No one has any proof that the earth is a few billion years old. It’s a crapshoot. Science might say its a few billion years, but it isn’t anymore valid than a few trillion years or a few million years. No one has any proof that the number is more or less true. It is an educated guess. Educated guesses are no more intelligent than a random guess.
That’s completely absurd logic.
An educated guess is based on evidence, research and a chain of events that leads naturally toward a conclusion.
A guess is something a guy posts on an internet chat board and calls deep thinking.
“Science” doesn’t say anything, on account of “science” being a concept, not a noun. Popularity (in terms of ratings) doesn’t mean you’re universally loved. 1/2 of the people who click on headline links or watch the show want to see these ppl fail.
