EXCLUSIVE: Former Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip co-stars Steven Weber and D.L. Hughley are reuniting on TNT. Weber and Hughley have been tapped as the two leads of TNT’s untitled pilot from Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps writer Allan Loeb. In other TNT pilot casting, Arjay Smith has landed a lead role opposite Eric McCormack in the network’s drama Perception.
Based on Marshall Karp’s novel The Rabbit Factory, the Lionsgate TV-produced Allan Loeb project centers on recently widowed police Detective Mike Lomax (Weber) and his newly married partner, Terry Biggs (Hughley), who delve into a world of mystery, intrigue and occasional hijinks. Lomax, who continues to receive humorous and heartfelt weekly letters from his wife a year after her death, tries to navigate the singles world while also maintaining his pedigree as one of L.A.’s finest. Loeb wrote the pilot script and is executive producing with Steven Pearl. Ken Topolsky is co-executive producing. Weber, repped by UTA and Brillstein Entertainment, is already in business with TNT. He has a 3-episode arc on the network’s upcoming sci-fi series Fallen Skies. Hughley, who has an arc on TBS’ upcoming comedy series Glory Daze, is with ICM and 3 Arts.
Perception centers on Dr. Geoffrey Pierce (McCormack), an eccentric, frequently erratic and absolutely brilliant neuroscientist who helps the FBI solve complex cases. Smith (TNT’s Saving Grace) will play Pierce’s TA, a perpetual student who has spent nine years in college and has had sixteen majors and not a single degree.

How great. Allan Loeb writes for years and years and nothing. His writing just isn’t good enough. Then he writes Things Lost in Fire, a flop. Butfrom that becomes arguably the busiest writer alive. When the lemmings find you it’s awesome.
DL is just awful. How’s the Cnn show? LOL
Allan is a horrible writer. Wall Street 2 was awful. The Switch bombed. I can’t believe this guy gets so much work. And I swear there was another negative comment against him earlier – what’s up, is he paying NF to delete comments about his awfulness???
Arjay Smith! Good job, “Allen Strange!” Things were looking dodgy for this kid post-Malcolm in the Middle when his only noteworthy credit was First Sunday. Happy for him.
Allan Loeb = The Male Equivalent of Diablo Cody? Proof positive that mediocrity can rocket rise to cerulean heights?
Yup. But just like I said with Diablo, you can’t begrudge him his success, right? You just have to figure out how he does it and crack the system. So good on him.
Wow they really set the bar high on this project!
With those two in the lead roles, I don’t think it will go far.
That’s it? DL has a failed show and can’t get a second show with out all of the negative comments. People are able to fail left and right in Hollywood and still get work. What the problem is? Oh, I know.

Oh my god, Jay. You are really going to pull out the race card on this one? DL Hughley is a marginally funny comic (at best) with zero acting ability and this has NOTHING to do with race. And he has had THREE failed shows, two of his own plus Studio 60. But I suppose you think that was a racist conspiracy by the networks and viewers? Get real.
Yup you nailed it. Weber’s had failed shows too post-Wings (“The Steven Weber Show” anyone?) but you don’t hear sh** about that. HMMMMMMMM
And “The Hughleys” ran for 4 seasons with 89 eps and went into syndication, hardly a “failure.”
Ever since Obama the threshold for failure is different from that of whites, I could have sworn Bush was the worst president ever.
I love Weber and DL. They are wonderful and could be great together. I am just mystified with Alan Loeb. What is the deal? Can someone explain it to me? Does he have dirt on people? Is he the nicest guy ever? What?
I’m totally with you on Allan Loeb. He wrote one film, 21, which made decent money, but opened to mixed reviews. The rest of his films have bombed and/or gotten horrid reviews. Both of his upcoming rom coms look awful – THE DILEMMA must be so bad, the studio did the ingenious marketing trick of getting as much press as possible about the trailer. And JUST GO WITH IT – just looks horrid.
And OMFG, he wrote the Miley Cyrus sure-to-be-stinker SO UNDERCOVER, which is sure to bomb.
This guy has no taste, nor do the executives hiring him.
You bring up a good point though, if you look at his pic on imdbpro, he looks kind of like Drew Carrey – like an loveable type guy – so he’s probably easy to work with and takes all the executives notes, which is why the scripts turn out so horrible.
Good luck Hollywood – keep on hiring this guy and keep watching your money being flushed down the toilet.
I’ve yet to see D.L. Hughley be funny.
I guess I’m the only one commenting with love for DL!
GO DL!
I’m not one to pull the race card. But come on, I know actors, directors, producers, comedians, whoever, who suck and get chance after chance to finally break a hit. Look at Pauly Shore. Wait, bad example lol. Maybe I’m the only one who likes DL.
