LOS ANGELES November 1, 2010 – British actor James Nesbitt (Millions and TV’s Cold Feet), is the latest actor to join the ensemble cast of The Hobbit, it was jointly announced today by New Line Cinema, Warner Bros, and MGM.
Nesbitt will play Bofur, a disarmingly forthright, funny and occasionally brave Dwarf. “James’s charm, warmth and wit are legendary as is his range as an actor in both comedic and dramatic roles. We feel very lucky to be able to welcome him as one of our cast,” said director Peter Jackson. Newcomer Adam Brown will play Ori, another of the Dwarf Company which sets out to reclaim the Lonely Mountain from the infamous dragon, Smaug.

Great to see James Nesbitt landing a role that may give him even more visibility. Loved him in Murphy’s Law and can’t figure out why he hasn’t made it “bigger”.
Nesbitt’s an overrated ham of near Shatner proportions.
You say that like it’s a bad thing.
NOOOOOOO!!! James Nesbit is a good actor but he is so overexposed. Every second middle-aged male role on UK TV is performed by Nesbit. He needs to take a holiday, give us a chance to miss him!
My, my. Now we know what Peter Jackson has been doing the past year – watching a lot of British television shows! The Hobbit casting is turning into a who’s who of UK soaps and drama. All these actors are doubtless cheap and available, but it wouldn’t hurt to give some proper A list talent a call.
I’ve never heard of any of these actors, except Martin Freeman. Maybe it’s just they haven’t had a lot of exposure in America yet.
