EXCLUSIVE: HBO’s smash has made its second major Season 4 hire: Dexter actress Courtney Ford is joining True Blood as a recurring. The actress — who ironically just completed a stint on another vampire drama, The CW’s The Vampire Diaries — will play Portia Bellefleur, a classic Southern beauty who runs her own law practice. The character is the sister of Bon Temps’ bumbling detective Andy (Chris Bauer). The news comes just days after Irish actress Fiona Shaw was cast in the series regular role of Marnie, a self-loathing medium who becomes possessed by a witch. Michael Ausiello will be contributing to Deadline.com and Movieline.com as he preps for the early 2011 launch of a new TV-centric website.

Her husband might be a block of wood, but Ford has real acting chops. She is very natural. Maybe she should give the husband some acting lessons?
She’s already stripped down for Dexter, so I’m sure she’ll do the same for True Blood.
Wow I looked at the picture before I read the relating news and thought that was Maggie Siff.
Maybe they should stop adding more characters to this already too big cast, and focus on the writing. Season three was atrocious Alan Ball!
I said that about True Blood before the last season started. They keep adding characters, but they’re not getting rid of anyone. You have to compensate. For every 2 new characters, they should write out 1 old character.
If they’re not careful, they’re going to end up like Carnivale and Deadwood. Those shows were great, but HBO couldn’t afford to continue producing them.
They are not really adding any characters this season that should not be there. At least the characters they are adding this season are actually in the book series. So Alan Ball is just putting in characters now that should have been there all along, at least in the case of Portia Bellefleur.
They got rid of a ton of characters last season. Russell, Franklin, Lorena, Talbot, Coot, Eggs…
Are you even watching?
they are adding characters cause the series follow the books and the book adds them duh?
That’s only “ironic” if you’re using the Morrissette Dictionary.
I’m waiting for the mummy or Godzilla to show up.
Alum, yes. But Mrs. Superman Returns was a supporting actor limited to 11 episodes. Hardly the “star”.
PORTIA IS SUPPOSE TO BE A FEMALE ANDY! She is not supposed to be hot, or particularly likable. I have no problem with Tara’s character changes, but this one kind of ticks me off.
I have no problem with Fiona Shaw. In fact, YAY HER!
I agree completely. There are some things that can deviate from the books, but this is not one of them. Chris Bauer is a great actor, but not the best looking guy, so this casting doesn’t make any sense other than sex factor, and honestly, there is enough sex on the show. Let’s get back to the story.
Portia Bellefleur has been in the novels since Book 1. The novels have too many characters. Even he wanted to, there’s no way Alan Ball can use all of them and make coherent stories for the TV version of TRUE BLOOD.
She can’t act worth sh!t but she’s willing to get nekid so that is probably why she was hired.
Everybody, listen to Joe because if there’s one thing Joe knows it’s about acting. Really, trust me – Joe knows acting. I mean he *knows* acting. Like really. “Worth sh!t” is technical actor evaluation speak so trust me he knows what he’s talking about.
Michael:
Thanks for the heads up concerning the new cast member.
She’s pretty~never watched “The Vampire Diaries”
Hope that she’s going to be closer to “Book Portia”:
Long dark hair,good figure,lawyer,unattached.
Looking foward to your new column.
I’m going with sex with Bill for 200$ Alex!
Ewww . . . If you remember correctly, Bill is related to Portia. Incest is just too much.
They never have sex in the books.
They need to stay close to the book. So of these characters were gone in the first two books.
There is no reason to bring Portia in now, she is not even a major character. She has nothing to with the 4th book. The biggest things she ever did in the books were: 1. Date Bill. 2. Help Sookie when she got shot. 3. Get married.
But portia is in the books and she has an integral role as she ends up with Bill so it makes sense to bring her in.
Don’t try to ‘watch the books’ on TV. So what if this character deviates from the novels with the timing of her introduction, role, and is different from what you imagined her to be? This is called an “adaptation;” it’s supposed to be different. Don’t be so literal, folks! Just enjoy the ride or stop watching. Also, if you’re upset/offended with the sex in the show, my advice is this: watch the Twilight Saga again.
So excited! I love her!! I fell in love with her in Fling! Such a great movie and she’s a great actress!!
