Here is a new trailer for NBC’s midseason superhero drama The Cape, which will premiere January 9 and air in The Event’s Monday 9 PM time slot. The series, from BermanBraun, stars David Lyons as cop Vince Faraday who, after being framed by the villain Chess for crimes he did not commit, teams with a group of carnival misfits to take a new identity, fight crime and win his family back.

Looks cool, done with wit and style, but my heart sank at the line “I’ll help you get your family back”… can Network TV come up with a new motivational trope please?
It’s NBC. Let’s just be glad it wasn’t “I’ll help you get your Ford Focus back so you can drive to Subway!”
Well, at least it’s shot in color — which is a lot more than can be said for The Event.
Tell me about it. Thats the one thing that I hate about Chuck. Every episode a Subway sandwich has to get at least two whole minutes of screen time. Pretty soon that sub is gonna be listed in the credits as an extra.
I have absolutely no problem with the Subway promotion, since their support is one of the main reasons it was renewed. I didn’t like it when they wasted Summer Glau’s screentime on it though. She was incredibly misused and wasted.
Summer Glau could go on tv reading the frakkin` phone book and I`ld watch.
All. Day. Long.
Looking foward to The Cape Summer Glau rules!! Good luck to you Summer!
Ok, I’m willing to give this a try….
Huge roars of laughter were heard around the world during NBC’s Sunday football night spots…
I seem to remember a similar comment made by you before. What, did the show steal your kid?
No, seriously, everyone I was with was laughing at it too.
It looks beyond terrible.
But, hey, I could be wrong, I mean look at NBC’s recent record of cranking out hits.
I agree. This thing looks like it’s a comedy, except the laughs are bad laughs. It’s pretty embarrassing.
First trailers on HEROES looked great … and, lived up to its promise. This looks good … but, it’s NBC!
Hey, I’m still watching THE EVENT!
Seriously? I swear this show will be on NO more than 3 episodes. It will be the biggest disaster since the day before at NBC. “Help you get back your family”? That ol chestnut again? And the Cape is…what, the weapon they use? A piece of cloth? That’s just dumb. Sorry to be a hater, but why do they bother?
Saw this at Comic-Con and the audience was shocked into silence at how bad it was. The panel ran out and the stink lingered for hours. A super hero trained by circus-freak/bank robbers?
This is worthy successor to The Misfits Of Science.
Apparently you’ve never heard of Robin, Hawkeye or Nightcrawler. They received most, if not a portion of their training in the circus.
If this show was rven remotely good NBC would have put it on in the fall. Also, its presentation at Comic-con was a full-on flop.
Midseason doesn’t mean anything.Plenty of great shows didn’t air until midseason.
Parenthood, The Simpsons, Family Guy, Futurama, King of the Hill, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, 3rd Rock From the Sun, Medium, Numb3rs, The Office, Seinfeld, Star Trek Deep Space Nine and Quantum Leap.
Those shows were all midseason replacements and ran from 5 to 20 odd seasons. So being held back until midseason is no attest to the quality of a series. It just means the fall schedule was full or the series actually needs more production time.
It doesn’t matter if the pilot bombed. The first season of Seinfeld did.So did the first season of the Office.Doesn’t attest to the overall quality/success of the series.
It played very well at Comic Con actually. And the comic books they handed out were a big hit…John Cassady cover. Awesome!!
A scene from The Incredibles comes to mind: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jy2YhxXn7NY
Well, they have my eyes for at least the first episode; I love Keith David.
I will give anything a chance that involved Keith David.
I saw the other TV spots during a football game. It looks interesting and dark. Hopefully they won’t have any of that by the numbers comedy/drama thing going on. I agree with a previous poster the “save your family” line seems silly.
Pleeeeeease cancel nowwwwww.
I don’t think that 30 second spot really gives the viewer a good idea on what the show is about. So, I get some people are going to laugh it off. The 4 minute trailer from the upfronts in May gives a much better picture. I’m looking forward to this show.
hopefully a quick flop will mean an earlier return for The Event.
This looks intriguing and Keith David looks great, but I don’t understand why NBC isn’t promoting the main reason people will tune in for this show. Summer Glau.
The Cape is going to be an awesome show for Summer. We wish her and the entire cast the best while filming the upcoming episodes. Its going to be fun to watch for all ages from kids to adult.
I hope that it not only entertains the audience but also we get some life lessons along the way especially for the young and impressionable people.
I’ll watch it until Keith David disappears, which will probably be after the pilot. I imagine the showrunners will make the same mistake everybody makes and spend no time on a proper origin story. The guy should train all season before he’s “The Cape” on his own. Then again, NBC is desperate. Good God, they left “Chase” on the air after all. Great cast on a terrible show with awful dialogue. Even CBS had that “Moonlight” daylight-vampire show which was worse than awful. I don’t know why a network didn’t look to reboot “The Greatest American Hero”. Heck, you could update the theme song and have a radio hit. Eh. Whatever.
Keith David delivers again, alongside what looks like a great bit of casting in David Lyons. He’s got the good looks and a bit of humanity in there too.
The pilot script was terrible bordering on vomitous, I am not kidding. The NO ORDINARY FAMILY pilot, while no shimmering masterpiece, was at least a capably written superhero show.
…Ditto the shot-but-not-picked-up BOSTON’S FINEST, which had a premise eerily similar to THE CAPE’s.
So if you can pardon the lame and therefore incredibly appropriate pun, this CAPE just isn’t gonna fly.
Looking better then I expected. Looking forward to it.
They really should have more Orwell in their promos if they wanna get more people interested.
What’s the point of casting geek’s favourite Summer Glau and not promoting her?
Given that there is a new clip every two days, chances are that we’ll have Orwell’s promo clip on Friday
I think this might be the the best promo released for The Cape thus far.
This is kicking ass and The Cape is going to be awesome.
Looks like Rollo is beating the crap out of Vince Faraday at the beginning of the clip.
Rollo is badass and i think Orwell and him are going to be the fans favourites.
we all know who is going to be the fans favourite.
Summer Glau will steal the show, like she did in Terminator : The Sarah Connor Chronicles
There’s some cool slow-motion stunt at the end of the promo; i think i have read that they spent a lot of money on the pilot.
I’m wondering if they could have the same quality of special effects on the forthcoming episodes.
I’m a little surprised they haven’t used Chess that much. It seems like they’re using David Lyons and Summer Glau as the public faces of the show, while The Cape gets most of the advertising. I’d definitely like to see more Orwell and Chess.
Still a cool promo!
Just bring back Manimal and put me out of my misery.
Looks cool, done with wit and style.
I’m looking forward to see Summer Glau on a weekly basis again and hope she’ll have lots of success with The Cape.
