BURBANK, Calif. – November 5, 2010 – The Walt Disney Studios announced today it has realigned its domestic public relations department in order to streamline the Studios’ publicity and media outreach efforts.
Within the new framework, Joe Quenqua and Julie Fontaine will coordinate the domestic media strategy for all titles, managing campaigns with N.Y.- and L.A.-based broadcast, print and online publicists.
The two will report to Michelle Sewell, Senior Vice President of Global Publicity, who oversees domestic and international PR efforts for all studio titles, including Disney live action, Walt Disney Animation Studios, Disney/Pixar, DisneyNature and DreamWorks Studios.
In his new role as Vice President of Publicity, Quenqua will oversee the New York office for The Walt Disney Studios and Disney Theatrical Group, managing the N.Y. public relations teams for these divisions. He has a long history with The Walt Disney Company, most recently serving as Vice President of Worldwide Publicity and Communications for Disney Theatrical Group under Thomas Schumacher.
In her West Coast-based role as Vice President of Domestic Publicity, Fontaine will be responsible for domestic publicity, film festival and awards campaigns. Fontaine, who joined Disney’s L.A. operations in 2009, brings formidable expertise in these arenas from her work on such campaigns as “The Queen” and “The Diving Bell and the Butterfly” at Miramax.
Quenqua and Fontaine will partner with the current global project vice presidents, Ryan Stankevich (Disney Live Action) and Olivier Mouroux (Disney/Pixar Animation), responsible for the studio’s strategic global PR campaigns. Later this month, Stephanie Kluft will join the Disney PR team as global vice president overseeing DreamWorks Studios’ PR campaigns working closely with Chip Sullivan and Marvin Levy on DreamWorks Studios titles. These leads will continue to create collaborative, comprehensive advance plans for Walt Disney Studios releases, developing integrated PR opportunities across lines of business and working with Disney’s worldwide publicity teams.

Hahahah
Marketing is next.
They’ll soon realize why they “moved” Quenqua out of the publicity department the first time around! Talent and Karma overcome politics in the long run…
I totally agree!
Joe Quenqua is brilliant at what he does. This is a well deserved promotion for a great guy. This new structure should be amazingly efficient, productive, and imaginative.
“Restructuring” LOL
So who is leaving?
Sewell is in over her head. That’s the PR “restructuring” Disney needs to focus on. Might as well “restructure” Nick Crawley while they’re at it.
Smart move Disney. Worked with Julie she is a class act and film savvy.
I truly hope that NY publicity team is staying, they are terrific! Would suck if they were replaced since it seemed Disney finally got that dept right.
what’s with all the restructuring going on at Disney? This is about the 4th release like this in 2 weeks.
Same old, same old. That place badly needs some new blood in the publicity department.
Wow, glad I left the Company when I did…
Julie is a gem. Good decision. Smart smart smart. And nice.
Great streamlining, but an unwise choice in hiring Kluft. She is a horrible manager who never advanced from her high school ‘Mean Girls’ mentality. Morale will continue to plummet.
Dead on. You’ve obviously also experienced the nightmare of working with her. Disney and Universal. Who keeps hiring her? So many better, nicer and smarter execs out there who are in the wind. Hire them instead.
Joe, could you be more transparent in posting about yourself? How pathetic, you low-life. No one is fooled by your machinations.
Quenqua is despicable and without a shred of integrity. A perfect example of “sucking up.”. Makes me nauseous.
Perfect example of how backstabbing and sucking up can get you to the tonp. Just remember when you do that, you have to pass some of your injured on the way down. Good luck.
OK – let me get this straight. Ross who has never done theatrical is in charge. MT who has never done a movie prior to her post either is in charge of the worldwide marketing group. Sewell who only knows how to do PR out of Europe who is now charged with handling the whole world and now has a bunch of domestic people looking after international as well. This should be interesting……..
So let me get this straight – they took a great marketing/pr team and blew it up, letting go some of the most respected executives in town. Then they replace them with folks with absolutely no clue and/or no experience? Nice move Disney.
I am a Disney fan. I might even need help haha. When I changed my major to Public Relations, and I’ve been looking into what Disney does via communications; I think they’re amazing. I always loved Disney, but now I appreciate the work that goes behind it.
