Here is a series that will probably need more editing than The Sopranos on A&E. BBC America has acquired the basic cable rights to Showtime’s racy costume drama The Tudors. BBC America has picked up all 4 seasons of the show from CBS Television Distribution. The Tudors on BBC America will kick off with an all-day marathon of Season 1 and 2 episodes on January 16, with subsequent episodes running every Tuesday at 10 PM.

So BBCA gets the basic cable rights to The Tudors, then decides to burn through Season 1 & 2 in one day, airing 20 episodes in a row from 9am Sunday 1/16 to 5am Monday 1/17?? Is this a way for BBCA to recoup the probably significant sum they paid for the 38 episodes, since they will be able to immediately have additional repeats of the Season 1 & 2 episodes? Why burn through half the series in one day when you could air one episode per week for 38 weeks, thus giving people a reason to tune in each week, especially since many viewers will probably be watching The Tudors for the first time?
It’s a shame that so many great current UK shows are deemed “unworthy” by BBCA, a network that supposedly showcases “the best of Britain,” yet airs constant repeats of Star Trek and, starting in January, The X-Files. Bring on the Global iPlayer so Americans will finally have a legal way to watch all the great current UK shows that BBCA won’t air.
Is there any other male star whose female fans hammer the internet like The Tudors’ Henry Cavill? He certainly seems to heat up the airwaves judging by the online drooling that goes on.and on and on…
This was an underrated show and Rhys Meyers was fantastic in his transformation over the course of the four seasons. I expect we’ll be seeing a lot more of him.
WAKE ME when BBCA stops the endless re-runs of Star Trek and the umpteenth runnings of years old Gordon Ramsey.
DJT, you’ll be asleep for a long time! From what I’ve seen of BBCA since the summer (when the new management took over), they have decided that most UK non-science fiction dramas, nearly all UK comedies and all UK panel shows will not air on the channel. BBCA are betting on ratings increases with UK science-fiction dramas, Top Gear, Gordon Ramsay, Star Trek, The X Files and The Tudors — and they have no intention of showcasing “the best of Britain.”
At this point, it wouldn’t surprise me to learn that BBCA and BBC Worldwide mutually decided to keep most of the great current UK programs off BBCA to give people a reason to subscribe to the Global iPlayer. That way, casual fans of UK sci-fi shows like Primeval, Being Human and Doctor Who give BBCA ratings and revenue, while dedicated fans of UK dramas, comedies and panel shows will subscribe to the Global iPlayer and generate revenue for BBC Worldwide.
How sad that we’ve come to the point where the Global iPlayer will have more in common with the UK BBC channels than an American channel with “BBC” in its name.
Henry Cavill narrowly missed out on James Bond, Twilight and Harry Potter (Cedric). I’d like to see him be the new Superman.
HOW THE HELL DO YOU FIGURE that Cavill “Narrowly missed out on James Bond”, When Dan Craig was the one and only choice of Babs Broccoli and Wilson, the PRODUCERS and keepers of the Fleming flame???
MORE IMORTANTLY, WHO THE HELL IS Cavill? In what important film, or boxoffice buster has he been the lead??
i don’t realy like it in one day ,but who cares I GET MY TUDORS BACK!!!!!!! if any one knows specfics ,please let me know, thank you
I would watch if only they would not censor it. Come on now, we are all big boy s and girls. If parents are so offended learn to work the parental controls.
Yes, we are big boys and girls and many of us adults have morals and don’t need to see smut to be entertained.
PS cable companies: not all of us have dvdrs. Sorry thats just the way it is in this economy.
I am only watching this because I am in love with James Frain.
At least you havee got the Tudors on your BBC. When will it be on our BBC in England for the final season?
It makes me laugh; this is about our greatest king and Ameroica and Canada grab it first. Typical.
BBC viewers in the UK (who fund the bbc through mandatory license fees) are still waiting for them to screen Season 4. This has been shown worldwide already.
Well done on the BBC in showing this in the USA, wonder when they’ll get around to showing the final series here in Scotland and the rest of the UK. Mind you it looks like it’ll be available on DVD in March so probably see it first that way!!!
I’m a British bird living in NY & my life greatly depends on such shows. My onlt hope is they dont do to this, what they did to MI5/Spooks….. & start to skip from season 1 to 3 & then back to 1 & then 4. I gave up watching what had become my fav show due to the mix match of series. Not to worry, i brought the gift set from Asda on my last trip home. thanks BBCA.
I live in rural oklahoma, and my one of my favorite shows(besides doctor who) is The Tudors, does ANYONE know if they have any plans of airing the 3rd and 4th seasons on bbcamerica?i watched the 2nd season final and have been waiting forever to see the 3rd, and it seems they arnt airing it for some reason…do you know where else i could watch the other 2 seasons? thanks!
I live in California and was wondering the same thing. I keep watching the same episodess over and over, not that I am complaining. I love that show.
