EXCLUSIVE: Ben Foster will star alongside Mark Wahlberg and Kate Beckinsale for Universal Pictures in Contraband, the English language remake of the 2008 Icelandic film Reykjavic-Rotterdam. The film is being directed by Baltasar Kormakur, who starred in, produced and co-wrote the original. Working Title partners Tim Bevan and Eric Fellner are producing with Wahlberg, Stephen Levinson and Kormakur.
Aaron Guzikowski wrote the script, and Wahlberg plays a former smuggler trying to go straight as a night guard. When his wife’s brother (who got him the job) botches a smuggling run, his life threatened and the night guard is dragged in for one more job. Foster plays the night guard’s best friend and right hand man, who helps him take on the dangerous job.
Foster next stars opposite Jason Statham in the CBS Films remake The Mechanic, and he’s just now shooting the Oren Moverman-directed police corruption drama Rampart in Los Angeles. He’s repped by WME and manager Ken Jacobson.

This is one guy that I just cannot watch. No matter what he does, it drives me crazy. it began in six feet under and ever since if I know he’s in something, I have to skip it. he must be talented, he keeps getting work, but he just drives up the wall
Foster is a tremendous actor. I hope he finds a lead role that gets him some Gossling/Gordon-Levitt style attention.

I know many young actors who auditioned for this. All early 20′s. Really good. So it is disappointing to see that it goes to an actor who is 30 or so, and having read the script, not right for it at all. He maybe good and have a name, put he does not propel me to see this movie.

I like Ben Foster, I think he is a terrific young actor. The role doesn’t seem all that special though. A criminal trying to straight but having to do it one last time, I have heard that before… like 500 times.

How someone can call this guy “talentless” is beyond me. He was amazing in Alpha Dog. And in The Messenger.
He’s one of the most underrated young actors in Hollywood! He was phenomenal in The Messenger and he held his own quite well opposite Russell Crowe and Christian Bale!
