EXCLUSIVE: Bill Pullman (Ruthless People, Independence Day) has signed on to star in the upcoming fourth season of Torchwood as a regular. Pullman — who joins series stars John Barrowman, Eve Myles and the just-cast Mekhi Phifer — will play Oswald Jones, a dangerously clever convicted murderer who escapes his lifelong prison sentence on a technicality and quickly becomes a media sensation. Genuinely repentant yet boiling with lust and rage, Oswald gets caught up in a terrifying worldwide crisis. Torchwood’s fourth season will air stateside on Starz in a co-production deal with BBC Worldwide Prods. Pullman’s only major previous primetime gig was on NBC’s 2005 limited series Revelations. Michael Ausiello will be contributing to Deadline.com and Movieline.com as he preps for the launch of TVLine.com, a new TV-centric website from MMC.

Why are some people worked up about the name “Jones”? It’s not exactly an unusual name — in fact, it’s the most common surname in Wales, second most common in England, and fifth most common in the United States.
Because it is tasteless in the context?
Gwen is perfect the way she is – I wouldn’t change a thing.
“Today is our independance day….” oohhh the irony….
completely agree. think positive, people. I think it’s exciting news, can’t wait to see what b.pullman does with the role (which sounds a bit a scary but interesting)
TNW has little to do with the original Torchwood (I loved Torchwood, especially the S1 and 2). However, don’t have Starz won’t see it and it looks like I’m not going to miss much.
I am working on season 4 and trust me, you will not be disappointed
being a barrowman and torchwood die-hard, i’m devastated by what i’m reading. torchwood was a great concept that readily referred to dr. who characters and had numerous prior episode tie-ins and references. why would they try and create a show with no recognition of its roots? i’m very fearful that they’ll destroy a great show.
Actually you could do worse than get the Starz package for a few months – $13 – eight channels in HD – eight in 480p.
Gwen Cooper is a great heart to the show. Always believable. Always Passionate.
Jack (Barrowman) remains an overexposed, boring “arse” of a man neither compelling or interesting, but in between bouts of overacting will no doubt have “omni-sexualled” sex at the most inoportune moments because he is such a lovable cad, apparently.
So far, its lack of ethnic casting is “shameful”. Before shooting really begins, perhaps Russell will see beyond his myopic three race limit(aliens aside)and his perpetually clumsy attempts at inclusiveness and draw from the real melting pot that is America. We shall see!
The Right to Die, the right to live, Fatalism, Nihilism: All of Russel’s favourite “bag o’trick’s”.
Of course I will be watching!
I think you’ll find that most of Wales (where Torchwood is set) isn’t that racially diverse. Reflecting the general racial mix of an area isn’t racist.
But do you know what? I think RTD probably didn’t even give racial mix THAT much thought. Gasp! Shock horror! He just picked a few characters. One of them happened to be Chinese. Later on Martha joins the team. She happens to have dark skin.
You see the thing is when you REALLY get over racism it ceases to be an issue.
Or he could deliberately pick a highly multicolour cast just to keep the small minded oversensitive types happy….
Just out of interest, which three races are you ACTUALLY referring to?
IMHO… I am always sad to see “Smart Sci-Fi Shows” just out right cancelled to oblivion… (i.e. Total Recall 2070) This could be merely a reboot of an already FANTASTIC Show!!! I find myself more outraged over the rumors of Johnny Depp playing Dr. Who in a Dr. Who Movie! as a fat dumb and hapy American myself – Keep The Doctor a Brit I say!
So I will give American Torchwood its customary latitude for its first season – give them a chance to see where they want to go. OVER ALL, I am glad to see Torchwood still kicking!
