My colleague Michael Ausiello already scooped CBS’ biggest scheduling change this midseason: freshman cop family drama Blue Bloods will get a four-week trial run in the Wednesday 10 PM slot beginning Jan. 19, while the current occupant of the Wednesday 10 PM time period, freshman legal dramedy The Defenders, will relocate to the Friday 8 PM berth on Feb. 4, following the series finale of veteran paranormal drama Medium. No surprise in the launch strategy for CBS’ midseason drama Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior, which will succeed Blue Bloods in the Wednesday 10 PM slot beginning Feb. 16 when Blue Bloods will return to its Friday 10 PM home. The Criminal Minds spinoff was widely expected to air behind the mothership series the way NCIS: LA follows NCIS on Tuesday. But somewhat unexpected was the harsh treatment of CBS’ other midseason drama series Chaos. CBS brass fought hard for the series, whose midseason pickup originally fell through after a deal with producing studio 20th Century Fox TV could not be reached. The project was later resurrected, picked up and made a co-production with CBS TV Studios. But now, the comedic drama about a group of rogue CIA spies has been assigned the tough Friday 8 PM slot where it will succeed The Defenders on April 1 when the freshman will have completed its reduced first-season order. (I’m sure the producers of the series starring Freddy Rodriguez are hoping that this is an April Fool’s joke.) But, with its fall slate solid, CBS doesn’t have that many openings and, with its comedic bent, Chaos is probably better suited for 8 PM than the darker CSI:NY. New midseason comedy Mad Love will premiere on Feb. 21 and run as part of CBS’ Monday comedy block at 8:30 PM, while utility player Rules of Engagement will be on the move again, this time to Thursdays at 8:30 PM where it will replace $#*! My Dad Says. Like The Defenders, the freshman comedy starring William Shatner also received a smaller back order after a so-so performance early in the season. “We’re in the fortunate position of having a schedule with many successful shows and very few holes,” said CBS’ Senior EVP primetime Kelly Kahl. “This allows us to be very targeted with our mid-season series. These are moves that maintain the core stability of a successful schedule, while giving us multiple looks for the future at a few time periods.” Note: While Blue Bloods airs on Wednesday, CBS will air crime repeats in the Friday 10 PM slot.

Another Criminal Minds show? Jesus H. Christ. The networks are so clueless. Let’s have 5 more Law and Order shows, 3 more CSI, 8 NCIS shows, and 34 more family comedies, and fries on the side. God forbid somebody actually come up with an original idea in television. All those shows go to cable.
And yet, CBS is easily the most successful network. They know what their viewers want and they deliver.
It’s too bad this method usually lacks any real creativity.
Amen,Brother !
I guess all the rumors about CBS flip-flopping “CSI:” and “The Mentalist” on Thursdays (with “The Mentalist” moving to the prime 9 pm slot) were just that – rumors.
Since my family’s already going to have to juggle Bones and Nikita at that time; I’m happy that Mentalist is staying where it is.
The CBS strategy with CSI and Criminal Minds will ultimately cause an NBC scenario – the shows get older, and the network better find some acceptable replacements.
CANCEL Shit My Dad Says! It’s the WORST show on television. Maybe in television HISTORY!!!
What?? Have you seen the show? Its hilarious! What show is funnier? Shatner is spot on and sullivan and sasso are the funniest couple outside of Modern Family. If you haven’t watched since the pilot, tune in!
So they go from proving friday night isn’t a graveyard to abandoning it altogether to failing shows and re-runs? CSI-NY is a solid ratings performer but it can’t do the whole job by itself.
CBS is at least finally treating Rules right, giving it an even better time slot after Big Bang.
Still boggled that it will take a network show six seasons just to get to 100 eps.
Jonathan Michaels it used to be four seasons (100episodes)to qualify for syndication, but not anymore Big Bang got syndicated with just three seasons. In the future I think that will be the norm. The Honeymooners is an exception.
Why can’t we have at least one show that isn’t embarassing to watch with family? I’m talking about a family with good values, morals, teaches children that there is a difference between right and wrong and goes to church? At least half of all who read this will probably laugh, shake their head and call me a prude, or worse but what is the matter with people? I’m only 58 and I watch more History, Discovery, Animal Planet and cartoons than anything. Murder She Wrote was one of the last good shows on tv.
I have a strong belief in the Lord, right and wrong, a good off color (not vulgar)joke and a cold beer or two.
Also, why do we have to pretend that homosexuality is ok? No matter where the family is located, tv wants us to think that if one of your children or your spouse comes out of the closet anyone, everyone will go, “Aw shucks thats ok, it’s no big deal.” Yes, I would still love my child but I would ask everyone I got close to to pray for him/her and I would make sure they know this is not a normal thing!
I’m sure hate mail and remarks about small minded country folk, etc will follow…go ahead,we ALL have the right to our opinion.
You’re in my prayers.
