EXCLUSIVE: CBS is about to find out how big a hit it has on its hands with Blue Bloods. I’m hearing the freshman Tom Selleck drama — which has been averaging a healthy 12.3 million viewers on Fridays at 10 PM — will get a four-week trial run on Wednesdays at 10 PM beginning Jan. 19. Fellow freshman series The Defenders, which is currently occupying the Wednesday 10 PM slot, will shift to a new regular time slot, Fridays at 8 PM, starting Feb. 4. There, the legal dramedy will succeed departing paranormal crime drama Medium. Beginning Feb. 16, spinoff Criminal Minds: Suspect Behavior takes over on Wednesdays at 10 PM where it will follow Criminal Minds. This is the same strategy CBS successfully used for the launch of spinoff NCIS: LA, which also followed the mothership NCIS series on Tuesdays. Blue Bloods, meanwhile, reclaims its Friday 10 PM post on Feb. 11. CBS, which declined to comment for this story, is expected to announce its midseason plans later today.

Please don’t play with timeslots. 10 times out of not it screws a show.
Basically.
Amen Ann-Marie.
Agreed but Blue Bloods is a great show and deserved to be where it is going now.
I agree-these stations mess with an established time slot and it is downhill from there!
Please stop changing the times of new shows. We just get use to the time schedule of the new shows, ex. The Defenders, Blue Blood, etc. and know they are changed.
What time is the Defenders and Blue Blood going to be aired on Canadian Television channels.
CBS should put it in the Monday night at 10 spot. Clearly, Blue Bloods is the best new show of the season and only getting better as the cast gels.
They should bring Matlock out of retirement, and have him do a guest spot on Blue Bloods .
Yeah moving it to Mondays at 10p would make perfect sense, seeing as what’s already there (Hawaii 5-0) is outperforming Blue Bloods. That’s why you post on boards and don’t work in network programming.
H50 is no hit. It barely beats Castle. And it could never survive on Friday’s like BB.
Of course Hollywood never heard of “if it ain’t broke don’t fix it”.
Damn! I prefer Defenders to Blue Bloods.
You’re right! Blue Bloods is good, but Defenders has to stay!
The Defenders is a cartoon.
I totally agree with you. I love The Defenders and they should leave it on Wednesday nights.
I hope the move to Friday night isn’t a sign that CBS is losing faith in The Defenders. A lot of good things happening on that show – more people should take note.
I really like Defender also. Anna, you should join forum on CBS site and talk about both shows. I was thinking have The defenders on 9pm, Wednesday, and move Criminal Minds back to 10pm slot. But if new CM is coming out, then that can’t work. So did they make the 9 other episodes for Medium, or canceled before they were made?
Honestly, good moves!
I LOVE this new show this season! Best new show this year for me!
I was a bit nervous when they started Blue Bloods out on Friday night because usually starting a brand new series on a Friday night 9 times out of 10, it doesn’t make it very far. I’m so glad they’re moving it to Wednesdays. Now I’ll have 2 favorite shows to watch on Wednesdays again – Law & Order SVU and now Blue Bloods! Excellent switch!
For whom the bell tolls…the death of Defenders. RIP.
As long as the traitor Garafalo is on the new CM show I won’t be watching.
I wholeheartedly agree, Brian R. If America-hating Garafalo and her greasy, skanky hair are in the cast, the show is automatically verboten at my house.
Couldn’t argee more. If Garafalo is on the show, the show won’t be on in my house. CBS should really reconsider.
Wednesday has nothing on, this is good news.
I love watching Blue Bloods online and can’t wait for it to hit the Aussie tv screens.
Please don’t mess with the show! It is doing awesome and love that it is on Friday night!!! Have they ever heard of “if its not broke don’t fix it??”….
I love Blue Bloods. They shouldn’t mess with a good thing.
I love Blue Bloods. Hope it does well on Wednesdays. Kinda nervous CBS is moving a brand new show even if it’s only temporary.
Musical chairs, oh joy!
Interesting moves. Not real excited about the CM spin-off. Wonder what will happen to CM2 if Blue Bloods takes off in that time slot.
Why can’t they just freakin’ leave shows in the spots they are doing well.
They have killed more shows than they have improved by putting shows on random hiatus, moving time slots, etc.
If it weren’t for the fact that CSI:NY already airs on Fridays, I’d say it was time for CSI: Original Recipe to switch with Blue Bloods. Or to do a three-way swap of Criminal Minds to 9pm Thurs, Blue Bloods to 10pm Thurs and The (yawn!) Mentalist to 10pm Fridays.
Moving The Defenders to 8pm Fridays to make way for the Criminal Minds spin-off at 10pm Wednesdays makes a lot of sense, though. Especially if CBS is sending it there to die. And it’s not as if Jerry O’Connell hasn’t been writing the show off from the beginning, seeing as how he was waaaaaay more interested in talking about why Penny should end up with Leonard on The Big Bang Theory when O’Connell joined the Big Bang cast and the NCIS/Criminal Minds techies at a Q&A session at Comic-Con.
Great news for CRIMINAL MINDS 2!
Clearly, DEFENDERS is being moved to Friday to die, taking CSI:NY with it. Unlikely either will be renewed next year.
Betcha BLUE BLOODS succeeds after starting on Friday and then escaping!
With dvr and ondemand views increasing every season, timeslots are not as crucial, especially with a closed ended/procedural-type show. For ex, Bones has moved around a lot over the years and it still does ok..I don’t think it’ll hurt Bluebloods esp as the move is only temporary..everyone needs to calm down.:)
or us old timers with VCRS.
What is filling spot for survivor and American Race???
honestly im not so sure about wednesdays now. American Idol will be airing on Wednesdays next month and we know they’re A juggernaut, so with that being said, criminal minds, criminal minds 2 and blue bloods might get eaten. we’ll see.
Amerian Idol airs from 8-10 pm, so it won’t affect the Wednesday night 10-11 time slot.
As a Loyal fan of the show&of the 1&only Donnie Wahlberg,I can only say that I(&his true dedicated fans)will follow him&the show on any day or timeslot. If they put it on the moon, then I’ll take out my telescope, lol.Get it,Got it! Good!
Tom Selleck is what drew me to Blue Bloods, but Donnie Wahlberg’s performance is what keeps me coming back.
Thanks to a four channel DVR, I could not care less which day the show is broadcast.
It would be nice if a network would attempt to program more than just four days a week. Fri, Sat, & Sun is a wasteland of nothing very interesting. The conventional wisdom seems to be that there are waaaay too many things to do over the weekend to make it worthwhile to compete for our attention. A quality lineup would dominate, but that might be as prestigious as being the thinnest kid at fat camp.
It would take a while for people to figure out there is quality in the wasteland. I doubt the broadcast networks have the patience nor the willingness to spend money on the marketing that it takes to build an audience.
Blue Bloods is the best of the new shows. I always dvr it on Friday nights. I’m never home. But Wednesday nights would be great. There’s not much on and I can watch it live.
