EXCLUSIVE: In what may be the last bidding war this development season, I hear CBS has landed Two Broke Girls, a multi-camera comedy co-written by former Sex and the City showrunner Michael Patrick King and comedian Whitney Cummings. The project, which the two wrote on spec at Warner Bros. TV where King is under a rich overall deal, was taken out this week and, after heated bidding, landed at CBS with a pilot production commitment. Like Sex and the City, Two Broke Girls is set in New York and
features female protagonists. But the similarities end there. As the title suggests, the CBS/Warner Bros. TV project centers on two 22-year-old girls who tackle life in New York: two broke girls, one expensive city. (It is safe to assume that the two won’t be wearing Manolo Blahniks.) King is executive producing the pilot, while Cummings is co-executive producing. This is the second spec sale for King, who is returning to TV this development season after taking a break to write and direct the two Sex and the City movies. A drama he wrote about a 50-something Beverly Hills hairdresser landed at NBC with a pilot commitment last month. 28-year-old Cummings also has a second project set up at NBC. She is writing and is attached to star in a comedy about a woman who’s afraid of marriage. Cummings, a frequent guest on Chelsea Lately and a celebrity roaster on Comedy Central, is part of a group of sexy foul-mouthed comedians that includes Chelsea Handler and Sarah Silverman whose act often tackles relationships and sex. She is set to host MTV New Year’s Bash. King and Cummings are with CAA.

Whitney is hysterical..much funnier than Chelsea…she’s going to be huge
Whitney is a packaged mess. Can’t write and has not one once of comedic talent and she’s been 28 for 10 years now.
I know, when I read “28″ I laughed out LOUD. Which is more than I do when I watch her stand up.
28? c’mon, get real. Who did the retouching? mid to late 30′s plus. She’s been around for a long time!
Ha, agree with jon. sarah silverman is a true original; whitney is a cheap knockoff who only gets attention because she’s moderately attractive and says dirty words.
28?!..LOL!!…she looks 50 with all that work done!..good luck Whitney, keep climbing that ladder..JLH has taught you well
I totally agree. I just googled her and was like shes born in 1982? FOR REAL???? When I saw the commercials I thought hey she looks great for being in her mid 40′s and alot of work done. shes 2 years younger than me and I look alot younger than her.
Does anyone know whether Michael Patrick King is Aaron Spelling’s long-lost son? He looks and sounds just like him.
whit, you aint 28….seriously.
Yeaaaaaaaah here they come! The bitter, jealous haters!! Whoo! Jon- you having a tough time out there pal?
Wait…ur a hater of haters, un less it’s something u hate. get off the boards you turd…with your boring knee jerk clog up the board with silly 6th grade observational drivel.
i was waiting for someone to pull out the “jealousy” and “haters” card. but to anyone with eyes, “jealous” or not, whitney cummings is definitely not 28.
not really. i just got nominated for a golden globe. As an ep of a show that is currently on air, I can say that it gets increasingly harder to cast talented people as opposed to packaged people who on the surface are talented and then when you get them on set, they can’t improvise, act or have one but of comedic timing. That’s frustrating.
Whitney Cummings is pretty talentless. She’s where she is because of her looks. This is a road television has attempted and failed with many a comedian. Try going for talent first. See: Roseanne.
Yeah! Roseanne wasn’t on for NINE SEASONS or anything.
deon, you ass. comic was referring to roseanne as how to do it right.
Jon,
Name one single thing you have accomplished in your career? Have you had your own special on Comedy Central? Bet not. Have you created a television show? Bet not. If Deadline ran a story on you would anyone know who you are? Bet not.
How pathetic and weak of you to criticize a woman who has worked her ass off and who is actually deserving of her success. Go back to being a loser and spare us another idiotic rant fueled by jealously.
Oh come on, Whitney is hilarious. In the immortal words of the legendary Jamie Kennedy, “Don’t be hatin!”
Lol Jon. Lol. She does look late 30s.
Worked with and seen whitney’s act. She’s more impressive in person though unfocused and shock oriented. Her stand-up is lost, pandering to the largest audience she can find and generally unoriginal. 28 and hot? eeeekkk….she’s 35+…the c- fran drescher w/o the hook or charm.
She is however just unimpressive enough for mainstream television.
She looks like Kim Kardashian.
nailed it.
Just the other day, the Washington Post did a front page article on her in the Style section. Not just a blurb either, it’s 2100 words.

Make of it what you will, but there’s a lot of up-and-comers who’d give their right arms for that kind of press. Oh, and she also mentions in the article herself that she thinks she looks 50.
Damn, SethJ, that’s one fine PR homerun that Whitney hit in that WP four! page puff piece.
Not a negative thing in sight, except that she works too hard…which is really just a backhand compliment.
I’ve seen her on Chelsea, and not impressed. Then again, in a different venue-say script writing or stand-up-she might shine.
Whitney is as funny as Chelsea. Presumably they both share the same audience-18-34 women. That leave me out.
Why, then, do I continue to watch Chelsea and/or Whitney, when I find neither of them funny or attractive?
I guess watching prematurely aged women talk dirty to and about men is titillating…more so in Chelsea’s case.
Still, Whitney & Chelsea have already accomplished more at the ages of 28 and 35 respectively, than 99.99% of us.
I may not laugh at what they say, but I respect their success.
Why is King in business with this woman? I mean, if this was a bed-hopping hetero male with a cougar complex, I could maybe see it. But why is michael working with the untalented Whitney? Evidently there’s a mutual friend involved? This is like Stephen King co-writing a horror novel with some obscure blogger…
And — when women shave too many years off their age, it comes back to haunt them. I have no problem with ppl in the workforce shaving a couple years off. Hell, I’d do it. But when you’re around 40 and still claiming 28 you just look silly. 40 year old women out there, when asked your age go with 35 or something remotely plausible.
i love how CBS probably thinks this is edgy…keep taking your Boniva America’s #1 Network!
I am surprised by the negative comments about Whitney Cumings. She is incredible funny. Always has good zingers on Chelsea Lately, great jokes during Pam Anderson and Joan River’s Roasts and a knockout who looks about 30 to me. Excited by her success. I think she deserves it.
I know Whitney well personally. She IS 28. what a bunch of jealous haters. does it make you feel good about yourselves to take cheap shots at someone who is incredibly talented and has worked for all of the success she has rightly achieved and then hide behind your fake names? unbelievable. what a bunch of jerks. – jonathan (my real name fyi)
WHO ARE YOU MORONS?!?!??! THIS GIRL IS ACTUALLY 28. SHE’S A HARD WORKER. IF YOU ALL STOPPED WRITING FUCKING COMMENTS ALL DAY LONG ON WEBSITES MAYBE YOU’D HAVE HALF HER CAREER.
28?!? Yeah, honey, I might’ve been born at night but it wasn’t last night. Buy a vowel! Her mug would be well served on one of the local news outlets. Perhaps weather girl. Kardashianesque retread. Bleeech.
Actually, she is 28. But who cares?! How about congratulations, 2 talented people are getting a pilot made after a huge bidding war? That’s the story. Not her age!
… – she has some talent or she wouldn’t be where she is today, and good for her for her past and today’s success, but pulling 28 as her freaking age? And the plastic work? What gives?!
Finally some upcoming “tune in TV”! Looking forward to it Agreed Samantha!
My gynecologist is funnier than Whitney. And it’s actually funnier if she IS 28. That would be rough.
Funny how no one’s talking about Michael Patrick King’s age.
I read that Dean Cameron from Ski School is going to be in that show. It will be cool to see him on t.v. again.
