Citing “disturbing material involving the rape of a teen, language, sexual content and some violence,” the Classification and Rating Appeals Board upheld the R rating given Trust. The David Schwimmer-directed film for Millennium Entertainment is a drama about a family’s struggle to deal with tragedy after their underage daughter is lured by an online predator and attacked. Schwimmer wanted a PG-13 rating and argued that the film is a cautionary tale that should be seen by teens who could be vulnerable to such approaches. The appeal was argued by executive producer and financier Avi Lerner as well as George Gale, the veep of post-production for Nu Image, which produced the film. Schwimmer told Deadline he did not want to cut the films, but he will have to if he doesn’t want to release the film with an R. The film stars Clive Owen, Catherine Keener and Viola Davis.

TRUST is brilliant. It is a MUST SEE FOR ALL PARENTS AND TEENS.TV CAN AIR TEEN PREGNANCY SHOWS BUT FILM WILL NOT GIVE A PG13 rating on a film that clearly is not exploitative and is cautionary and necessary. Has anyone in the Film rating biz ever seen TO CATCH A PREDATOR ON NBC? Enough said. Take out the R rating. It does not apply here.
So the film is basically a feature length version of To Catch A Predator? Count me out. While the guys on Predator are low-lifes the show completely tramples on the rights of the accused and the U.S Constitution. That’s why they pulled it from the air. Schwimmer sucks to use a forum like film to spread his personal message.
Aside from that, based on the description on Deadline Trust sounds completely appalling. It should be rated NC-17. It also throws me for a loop to have Dave Schwimmer associated with this. Wht next — a documentary on the Cambodian killing films by Joey?
Pretty sure someone in David’s family was raped. He’s spoken out about it many times.
you should definitely avoid the brilliant 10 part series “Band Of Brothers” if seeing David Schwimmer in a WWII film will throw you for a loop.
The movie is not an extended To Catch a Predator. I saw the play in Chicago and it’s a simple story with complex themes about a family coping with a daughter who is seduced by an online predator and the aftermath of his attack on her. It’s a very moving drama.
Ned .. you have no idea what you’re talking about. I saw a screening of the film yesterday and it’s brilliantly done in every way, ESPECIALLY Schwimmer’s direction. This is not his personal message, it’s a hugely necessary story that needs to be pushed onto the conscious of the world, so that greater awareness can begin regarding the despicable predators praying on our children.
I can see both sides of the issue here.
I think the bottom line was that the MPAA was a little uncomfortable having the depiction, regardless of what kind of depiction, of a rape of a minor in a PG-13 rated film.
Ultimately, the MPAA is worried about parents, and parental watchdog groups, losing “faith” in the MPAA’s rating system.
Unfortunate for Schwimmer, as it looks like one of his goals was to use the film as a vehicle for educating those very same minors.
A case when everyone is trying to protect the same interests but somewhere along the way the lines get crossed.
Schwimmer’s a godawful director. When he directed episodes of Friends, there were jump cuts all over the place. The guy needs Direction 101.
that’s terrible. a film starring Clive Owen, with a PG-13 rating, would have made boat-loads of money
Schwimmer the actor???is now a director??(both very questionable) working with Avi Lerner now under questionable investigation in numerous lawsuites (check Nicki…she’s the best) Thank you for the comic relief. No one cares about him… he needs to get over himself. Actually, Matt LeBlanc is a better actor…and that’s really desperate, isn’t it…Then again,he didn’t “suck off” Jamie Tarses,”Mr Sunshine”…sorry, I also forgot his name.
With all respect to Nickie…I just posted a comment. It showed up…then unexplainably was deleted???…Why??. Nickie is the best, but are we now being censered?
just cut the scene already, ross.
I totally agree that Trust is really brilliant. I guess if someone doesn’t like that there is something wrong with him.
I don’t see how you can have a scene or subject matter of rape and have it be pg-13. Schwimmer directed the very hilarious and heartwarming Run Fat boy run.
do you know what I miss about films today. The ability to tell a powerful story with a powerful message without needing to show it. if it is such a great film, then it can get the message and impact of teen rape across without needing to actualy depict it.
This is the kind of film that actors like.
I’m with Director. I wonder if any of them had to gain weight.
The film is brilliant. A must see for all parents of teenage girls. Go see it. Swimmer, edit it so the film can be seen by everyone. Go after facebook, twitter, advertise this film. Start pushing your perfect project.
