EXCLUSIVE: Twilight Saga‘s Taylor Lautner has become attached to star in Incarceron, the Fox 2000 adaptation of the Catherine Fisher young adult novel. The film is being written by Adam Cooper & Bill Collage, who are among the writers behind the Brett Ratner-directed Universal comedy Tower Heist, and who are writing Moby Dick for Timur Bekmambetov and Moses for Fox and Peter Chernin.
Lautner will play Finn, who has lived his entire life on Incarceron, a savage, futuristic prison society. He meets the daughter of the warden, who is trapped in her own prison, a futuristic world constructed beautifully to look like the 17th Century. She knows nothing of Incarceron except that it exists. She and Finn simultaneously find a crystal key that allows them to communicate and hatch an escape plan for Finn. The film will be produced by John Palermo and Lautner is likely to become involved as a producer as well.
Aside from the final two Twilight Saga films being directed by Bill Condon, Lautner starred in Abduction, the John Singleton-directed thriller from Lionsgate. He’s also booked to star as Stretch Armstrong in the Universal Pictures/Hasbro film. He’s repped by WME and Management 360.

What happens if his first film as a leading man under-performs? Do all these deals go away?
Very astute question; Hollywood is putting lots and lots and lots of their eggs into this kid’s basket, when he has NOT proved he can carry a movie.
Just another example of Hollywood trying to fabricate a “star” and then force-feed him to audiences before the audiences have indicated who they actually want to see on screen.
I personally agree. I mean come on Taylor Lautner again? Seriously theyre using an actor which is not as popular as he used to be. He cant be the main role. He just doesnt fit the description of the charcter Finn whos has been describe as being very strong mentally. While Taylor Lautner does not fit the image. I think they should of picked a better actor. Some one else perphaps? He just doesnt seem like the best choice.
LOVE this book!!! Taylor is perfect for it!
Great. Add another title to the list of projects that are going to fall apart the moment his first non-Twilight film is released and bombs… The guy has the charisma of an amiable brick.
This is the first post-twilight movie Lautner’s involved with that I approve of. The book is really good and his personality would go perfect with Finn. Action/adventure, futuristic and not like Twilight at all.
No first, he have “Abduction”
agreed 100%! I actually found out about the book when I saw the news about it being made into a movie and Taylor starring it.. Hope the movie is as good as the book!
Good for Taylor. He will do a great job.
Glad to see they’re getting serious about this adaptation. Definitely one of the more original books I’ve read of late. Still not quite sure if Taylor can act though… At least he’s easy on the eyes.
That’s for sure!
This kid is smart to bank as many as these crappy projects as he can while the going is good. Those romance novel cover boy looks will only last so long.
To answer your question Bia…hell yeah. I hope this kid turns out alright. He’s got to pick good directors that will challenge him. Twilight is one thing, striking out on your own is another. I hope all three stars of that franchise find their identity because its getting rough out there.
Does anyone in this town care that Taylor can’t act? He couldn’t even present an award at last years Oscar’s. Watching this kid is painful. Can talent please be the reason to cast, not popularity? This kid can’t open a paper bag let alone a film.
Yeah. It’s risky with all those projects because no one knows if Taylor can open or carry a movie by himself. Those epic failures of Pattinson and Zac Efron solo movies should tell something. And I liked Taylor at first. I felt sorry when they wanted to replace him in New Moon because he didn’t look strong. And i respected him because unlike those two other (Kristen and Robert) Taylor had actually work hard for his role with all those trainings for muscles.
But Gosh… When I look at him now on the red carpet or TV – he is boring to death. Always looks the same. Same hair, same face expression. He looks like he doesn’t have any personality. He looks like a doll. It’s doesn’t look to me that he will have successfully solo career like Shia LaBeauf. And no one really cares about Taylor. Since Eclipse came out he basically disappeared. No pap pictures. And no one misses him. That my be the problem with his solo career. Because when they open PR machine before the promotion of another Twilight movie then those Lead actors are everywhere. But when movie comes out – they disappear.
But we will see. Efron, Stewart and Pattinson have made very bad choices with their movie roles. The premise of “Abduction” actually sounds interesting. And like the movie I want to see. So we have to wait till it will come out.
He’s only 18, how interesting can he be? Honestly, I’ve enjoyed his late night show interviews, he’s very charming. Also, I think it’s good he’s not on the media 24/7. I know I get tired of the people that are everywhere all the time. Anyways, I think he’s got potential. Yeah, he’s not the best actor but at 18 I don’t expect him to be. He did good in the Twilight films considering the source material, I’d think he could perform far better with a good script and director.
Anyways, this new project sounds interesting. We’ll see how it shapes up.
Zac made two good choices and one bad- that’s not quite so bad at all. The two good being 17 Again and Me and Orson Welles (which didn’t do well financially, but was a strong enough role coupled with a good director).
i have to disagree with you. i dont like twilight, but im not going to write the actors off as nothing if their first projects right out of the gate dont do as well. every actor has “failures” now and then. i think rob’s movie remember me is what made me a fan of his. a lot of critics wrote it off because of the storyline, but i enjoyed it. now im looking foward to seeing water for elephants and bel-ami.
i think its clear that taylor wants to be the next action star, vs actor. maybe that will be his strong point in hollywood.
The interest in him did die fast after Eclipse. Pattinson, Stewart and Efron held people’s interest in between their franchise installments. Does that deadness concern these studios? Summit is holding Abduction for a few weeks before Breaking Dawn which says there’s no faith in him selling it with no franchise right behind him. Bad sign.
This movie could be ok and it is a better choice than Stretch Armstrong for sure. But I don’t think the other 3 have made all bad choices. Yeah you had Pattinson’s Remember Me and Efron’s Charlie St. Cloud underperform and their plots were skewered by reviewers. One strike each. But Pattinson’s Water for Elephants could be good and Efron had 17 Again and the Linklater pic and has Snabba Cash some time (please do the story justice!). Stewart is keen on indies so she needs to stay in good ones and not bad and has done okay so far. Every actor has stinkers though, how many strikes does Johnny Depp have? Maybe +1 this weekend.
Rob filmed Water for Elephants. Is this a bad choice?
Incarceron sounds interesting but I don’t want to see Taylor in it. I know that some people think that he’s attractive but he’s not my type.
the lautner trajectory is going to be interesting to watch. it seems so overblown, we’ll see.
why not? he’s such a good actor. And think of all the money they’ll save on wardrobe. he will be shirtless in this one too, right?
Finn does wear pretty ratty clothing. I wouldn’t be surprised to see him shirtless (although that seems to be Keiro’s category of expertise).
Seriously? Of all the people to cast for this part, Taylor Lautner (who can’t act his way out of a paper bag) gets the part? I loved this book and its sequel, Sapphique, and I am completely upset that he is now attached to this project. I can only imagine the mockery they are going to make out of the original source material if someone like Lautner is the main character. What’s next, Kristen Stewart as Claudia? I think I’m going to be sick.
Not for nothing, if not this kid..which male actor is the next great acting thespian of Hollywood.
I say why not give him the role….there’s enough movies produced in Hollywood and films make their money back overseas and DVD sales. Young girls want to see this dude…they are not interested in seeing old aging men. So Pattinson, Lautner need to ride that wave called youth and take advantage of all offers.
hey its WME..Ari.
Who thought Marky Mark would amount to anything? is taylor any worse…just saying
Mark Walhberg may have been silly, but Basketball Diaries is an oscar worthy performance. If This cream puff Taylor can pull that off, I would give him props too. Just saying..
It’s a step in the right direction for him and he’s worked hard to be where he is but to be the lead role at 18, I think too much too soon.
Slow down there George your GAYNESS is showing, This guy cannot act so don’t get your hopes up on anything at the moment.
Good lord, this movie sounds awful. So long as they focus on selling the movie to tween fangirls and the whole Twihard audience, then I don’t see anything wrong with it. It’s when they try to broaden the audience for this pure dreck to guys that I get offended. Not that we don’t like our terrible films either (hello Transformers), but at least we aren’t so bad that we fall for THIS level of crap.
isn’t this book considered a young adult novel? that’s the same thing as twilight. so i could see them trying to go after the twilight fanbase or the tween audience with it.
Transformers was MUCh worse. I couldn’t even watch it through.
Incarceron and Sapphique were at least decent books. The Twilight series was riddled with problems, both grammatically and psychologically. But we won’t get into that now. The point is that these books were pretty good, and if they stick to the source material, the movie should be as well.
My main issue was the fact that Fisher doesn’t explain anything and leaves everything so mysterious. I had so many questions by the end, but I think she intended for us to make up our own minds or imagine certain details for ourselves.
THIS KID IS unwatchable and totally uncharismatic.
I like Lautner well enough, although I found hum more interesting as a child actor, but the book is by a British author in a British fantasy/sci-fi setting — they should have cast British teens. Have they learned nothing from the crapfest that was “The Dark Is Rising” movie?
Harry Potter has proved beyond all shadow of doubt that Americans are not too stupid to understand British accents and “Slumdog Millionaire” showed that we can relate to protagonists from other cultures, but Hollywood still things we’re narrow idiots. Thanks Hollywood! Jeeze.
The book is awesome … Hope they make it into a decent film.
I’m really glad Taylor is taking another direction, as in, awaaay from Twilight.. Personally, I’m a fan of both the books & movies, but things like those wont last forever, and this sounds really interesting, that is, if they stay close to the book.. Also looking forward to Abduction, premise sounds very good.
Great anotrher movie ruined by him
Does anyone know when it will be released?
Um, first, Finn hasn’t lived his whole life in Incarceron. It’s only been 2 or 3 years. Second, someone HOT better play Jared. And they’d better not try to fabricate a romance between Claudia and Finn. They have almost zero chemistry in the books. Fisher leaves her potential romances open-ended, like with Finn/Claudia, Finn/Attia, and Jared/Claudia.
I really hope TLautz at lestt brings some popularity to the books.
Why did it show up as lestt? LEAST.
i think taylor will be awsome, he is very smart, and how ever he does i wish him the best, one thing you can say about actors they learn like everyone eles, and practice does make perfect, so give him a chance, you may like what you see.
