EXCLUSIVE: Fox Searchlight is turning the Oscar-nominated documentary La Corona into a feature film, and has set Jose Rivera to write the script and Rodrigo Garcia to direct. The 2008 Spanish language film was nominated in the Short Subject Documentary category. The film depicted a prison pageant in which the contestants were guerillas, murderers and drug dealers vying for the distinction of being called queen of a prison. Julie Lynn is producing.
Rivera, Oscar-nominated for The Motorcycle Diaries, most recently adapted Jack Kerouac’s On the Road, which is currently in production with Walter Salles directing an ensemble that includes Kristen Stewart, Kirsten Dunst, Viggo Mortensen and Amy Adams. Garcia directed Passengers and HBO series episodes including Big Love and In Treatment. Rivera’s repped by ICM, Garcia by WME.

Awesome news! This is a great doc and has the potential to be a very interesting film.
rodrigo should get an oscar nom for best director for his work in Mother and Child!
Yeah, why would the writer just credit Rodrigo Garcia with the bomb “Passengers,” When he directed the critically acclaimed “Mother and Child” and “Nine Lives”?
