Looks cheap(er)!
yeah… but ya gotta love Ian McShane…
It should hardly look cheap(er) under Rob Marshall’s production design level of excellence history. Rob is quite a visual director.
In fact, I thought the production design and general imagery was first class.
But for me, the best image is Penelope Cruz. Even in the trailer, one can see the potential passion her character can add to Pirates, and this can greatly serve the film which needs something new to carry it.
Agreed, I think production looks pretty good (they shot in some gorgeous old locations in London). You can’t knock Marshall for his commitment to authenticity and historical accuracy (to a certain extent), Im definately looking forward to this movie and seeing what he’s done with the franchise. PS Ian McShane – LEGEND.
I would almost hope it looks cheaper. Massive budgeting didn’t do Pirates 3 any favors. They needed to scale back the story and it looks like they’ve done that; since they actually started with some semblance of a screenplay this time, I’m holding out hope it could be good.
yeah, more $300 mil
Johnny Depp’s global box office domination = Faustian Deal. Not a fan.
Definitely looks cheaper. Just goes to show how insane Hollywood is right now. The first 3 movies made over 2.5 BILLION worldwide, and yet this time around it has half the budget, no epic locations, half the original cast, and is directed by a guy who does musicals. And it shows. It looks fun, don’t get me wrong. But it just doesn’t feel as exciting. Hopefully if they continue on, they’ll bring back Keira Knightly at least and let it be the epic adventure type film it should be.
Keira has been saying since before “At World’s End” that she would never do another Pirates film. And if you read some of the fan boards, most people are glad she and Orlando are gone.
But weren’t they, like, the protagonists?
You nailed it. This third installment does not feel right.
Looks excellent
I’m on the fence about whether or not I’ll see this in theaters… The trailer doesn’t look bad, but it doesn’t instantly capture my interest like the original Pirates film did. Prolly depends on what the reviews look like. But then again I ignored word of mouth AND reviews and waited to see Iron Man 2 on netflix and ended up being really glad I did….
Yawn.
Stunning. very impressive
So, what you’re saying is that I need a time machine to waste $12.50…
I guess I’ll get back to work on the old flux capacitor.
Wow, I haven’t seen many, if any of Cruz’s movies, but does she have an ounce of charisma in her? She takes me completely out of the trailer. Even Keith Richards looks more authentic then she does. She looks like she is overly dressed for a Vogue Halloween party. Yikes.
ALWAYS her problem. That, and the fact of all Spanish speaking actors in LA, she’s STILL the worst at English some 20 years later. I just can’t even comprehend how someone could spend so much time speaking English and still sound like it’s her first day. All gerbled up with marbles.
1st film – $140 million
2nd film – $225 million
3rd film – $300 million
4th film – $200 million
Yes, this one is one of the cheapest in the franchise, but $200 million is still a TON of money.
Ian McShane and Penelope Cruz for the overwhelming win.
25% of the dialogue made me cringe, 50% did not make me cringe, and the other 25% made me laugh out loud. This is a far better breakdown than can be said for the vast majority of other trailers released for summer blockbuster movies.
I got bored just watching the trailer. Reminded me of how I felt before I walked out of the 2nd and 3rd movies.
Agreed. I can hardly wait to miss it.
Kids will love it.
What looks fake is the fire explosion around 1:40. Looks like bad CGI. What made the first movie so appealing was in a time of Terminator 3s, there was a movie that promised realistic looking sword fighting, real explosions, and not CGI.
“What made the first movie so appealing was in a time of Terminator 3s, there was a movie that promised realistic looking sword fighting, real explosions, and not CGI.”
Curse of the Black Pearl didn’t promise CGI? Wasn’t one of the teaser trailers nothing but CGI skeletons walking under the ocean?
Yes but that teaser gained little traction. The trailers built momentum.
The movie shot this summer and doesn’t come out until next summer. The only CGI that’s close to being done is what’s seen in the trailer. It’ll get better.
ZzZzzz – boring! i cant differentiate between any of the three films and this looks like more of the same.
Then how do you explain The Tourist?
Looks like another billion in the bank.
Depp is the franchise. Every penny not spent on him, lighting him, costuming him, craft servicing and filming him is considered an expendable.
And let’s face it, they’re right.
Was all set to hate this trailer, but actually looks fun to me, thanks to Depp. Did think Cruz looked WAY out of place. Ugh.
People actually depend on a critic to make their movie decisions? Wow. I go see movies that appeal to me, not to a critic. This looks like a fun time at the theater.
EXACTLY!
Really fun trailer. Penelope Cruz is a great addition. Can’t wait!
The sequels, thought they were bad, had the Kraken and Squid Davey Jones and the Sea People Crew. What does this one have? Mermaids?
Blackbeard! You know, an actual pirate?
Depps Captain Jack is one of the best cinematic characters of all time!
If you don’t like him….then you need a pulse.
Go see the silly looking Thor film instead. haha
Loved it. Unlike the majority of trailers in this genre that serve up a tricky montage of action nuggets, this trailer not only tells a full story, but promises to deliver. No sleight of hand here. Mermaids and zombies and pirates oh my!
He’s searching for the fountain of youth? Why? How many movies can be made about searching for the fountain of youth before the studios think something new to search for? I think I will pass on this one.
