Is this essentially a movie about Rock Em Sock Em robots?
Ditto that! I saw my childhood spring to life.
+2 – The EXACT reason I clicked to comment.
The only thing ‘steel’ was the sounds … EVERY sound.
Me too. Great game.
What’s next? Hungry hippo? (“A quiet lakeside resort….WATCH OUT!! HUNGRY HIPPO!!!”)
Actually trailer looks pretty good. A combination of iron man and transformers, with a little ultimate fighter thrown in. Should draw folks to the big screen.
Seriously?
So it’s TRANSFORMERS meets Wrestling meets GAMER. It looks awful and will probably make a crapload of money.
Lame. And Evangeline Lilly? Really? She can’t act, and by the looks of things neither can anyone else in this movie aside from Hugh. This seems very much beneath him. Great effects, but what a silly story. Actually, is there even a story? People box with bots….oook.
Think I speak for a lot of people who, since they announced this movie, are still like, “WHAT THE HELL IS THAT!?!?” I genuinely wish I could prop my 12 year-old self in front of that and be like, “Is that what you’re looking for in entertainment?” I really don’t know which way he’d go.
FX fighting FX is never really a visual turn-on for me as a viewer. I HATED the Transformer fight scenes because it looked so confusing – just a bunch of metal banging together. That’s what this reminded me of.
TOTALLY AGREE!! When the transformer robots were fighting at the end of the movie it just went on and on and I actually was just bored and my eyes got tired…couldn’t tell who was punching who and I did not care either.
What the hell?
Wow. That looks horrendous.
Shawn Levy BRINGING IT!!! Fingers crossed for this to eclipse Cheaper by the Dozen in all around awesomeness, but I’d be happy if it’s at least in the same discussion. Hugh Jackman has had some bad luck at the B.O, but boy, you CANNOT fault his choices of material or collaborators. Top notch stuff, all around.
That said, I don’t want to impinge on Levy’s mighty auteurism, but I hope there’s at least one scene where Hugh gets to teach the robot how to sing and dance. They love that kind of thing in South Korea.
hilarious…
Never Back Down + Transformers = Real Steel?
Wow. How awful does that look? Unbelievable.
I think I liked this better when it simply called “Steel,” and it starred Lee Marvin — and it lasted for only 30 minutes (with commercials) as a 1963 “Twilight Zone” episode.
This looks so incredibly stupid, that being said, our society is filled with so many morons i’m sure it’ll do huge box office.
Oh no. What did they do to my Rock ‘em Sock ‘em Robots?
Embarassing. UNCLE SPIELBERG hopes he could get another robot cashcow after Transformers.
WHY HUGH WHY?
It’s a remake of a great Twilight Zone episode with Lee Marvin – but can it work feature-length?
I hope they have a scene in the movie with Hugh Jackman cashing a massive paycheck at an ATM while digital robots fight around him.
This looks aweful… wow… I am almost speechless…
C’mon Hugh. You already have an action fx driven franchise with Wolverine.
You are a talented actor who can sing and dance. Why would you ever sign up for this Transformers meets Ironman video game foolishness?
Oh, I know, it’s all about the Benjamins!
Hugh, you are in your prime and have only so many films to choose…”Choose wisely.”
Looks…okay. Different enough to distinguish itself in the marketplace. I can’t get on Hugh Jackman’s case. If this is a win for him then he can break out of his Wolverine mold for once and start greenlighting other interesting projects. I hope it does well.
Is there any way this was NOT pitched as “Transformers” meets “Fight Club”?
This will make a TON OF MONEY!!
Say what you want about Shawn Levy, but he works incredibly hard, that’s beyond dispute.
looks real stupid. probably be a big hit.
I like Hugh Jackman. He’s a good actor. This looks awful. It looks like a movie that should’ve come out ten years before transformers. They should’ve stuck Vin Diesel in this, not Hugh.
