Waiiit a minute … I’ve seen this somewhere….
This is what our country has come to: make a movie like a video game, market it to white trash middle America and zit-faced teens who cannot get laid. This is why everyone in the world thinks the US is dumb.
HOT TRAILER? HOT MESS.
I hated GI JOE. I hated Transformers. I hate most big budget action movies with no brains. That being said, this one actually looks pretty good. hahahaha
Wasn’t this the movie Terry Crews watched in Idiocracy after “Ow, My Balls?”
I give up……
Wow…a lot of haters here.
First off, aghast that this is coming from Shawn Levy. He seems to really be swinging for the fences here. Second, as long as the dude holds the camera a fraction steadier than freakin’ Michael Bay, this has a real shot at being a hell of a lot more entertaining than those horrible Transformers flicks.
My inner 12 year old is intrigued.
Saw The Fighter last week. There is a boxing movie invested in human emotion, where the punches felt real, the drama earned. There is no way CGI robots can muster anything close to that. I hope this fails. I hope this craze for computer generated fantasy migrates permanently to the world of video games and the movies revert back to the purview of adults.
I bet it will have awesome montages. PUT HIM IN A SCRAP YARD, XR2210-E!
Jackman can do so much more than this stuff.
Based upon the short story “Steel’ by Richard Matheson, as was the previously mentioned Lee Marvin starring Twilight Zone episode.
Wish I could be in the room when this was pitched:
Imagine Transformers, but without the story, just action.
-Um, I don’t know…
And no Shia!
-Sold.
Why does it look like a bad movie? Because it has robots and lots of special effects? Sometimes things surprise us. Like District 9. That’s a nice workout you’ve gotten on the Jump-To-Conclusions Mat there, peanut gallery.
District 9 looked great even in its trailer form, nutboy.
As a writer that has a spec going around town as we speak, all I will say is…. I give up.
I just hope they don’t get sued by the creators of the Sci-fi “classic” Robot Jox.
I honestly think that this will be the biggest comedy of next year, but can’t believe someone like Jackman would sign on to do this
“Bring It!”……outside to the the recycling bin. The blue one not the green.
I read the script for this and it was amazing – A great story about a broken down former boxer in the near future who enters fighting robots in boxing competitions. His life gets turned upside down when he’s forced to take custody of his son after the death of his ex-wife. It reads more like the Champ than Transformers. I was totally bummed when I saw that Shawn, Night at the Museum, Levy was going to direct it though. And, judging by the trailer, it appears my fears have come to fruition. It looks awful. I’m still holding out hope that it’s just the marketing that sucks.
“This is what it’s all about… LET’S MAKE SOME MONEY!”
With any other actor, I’d say the trailer called it brother. Hugh is such a nice guy, I think he just can’t say no to anyone he likes who asks him to be in their picture. Hugh, after you give them Wolverine, you get to go do your passion project, not a poor man’s Transformers.
damn. this like like crap. why on earth would jackman be in this? It looks like a low-budget dtv idea that should star dolph lungren or at best jason statham. yikes.
We are living at a moment in movie history where the depiction of action, for the most part in big-budget movies, has never been as bad.
Michael Bay has been mentioned as a a culprit of confusion. I will go on record as saying that the action genre (as practiced by the masters Walter Hill, John Carpenter, James Cameron, John McTiernan, William Friedkin, Kathryn Bigelow and the original Bond team of Terence Young and Peter Hunt, to name just a few) has been corrupted beyond recognition by the likes of Michael Bay.
The car chase in THE ROCK (1996) is IMO the single worst car chase in the history of movies. Mark this scene as the beginning of the end of crisp, clear coverage of action.
Confused about action in a Bay movie? Join the line in back…way back, cause its a long wait.
If Hollywood suits truly believe that Bay is an action-master they are either cinematically ILLITERATE…or…just plain blind.
The man is an action HACK. Big-time. And this new film is exactly the kind of influence he wields over the Hollywood culture.
To action fans like myself, Bay is…an embarassment. Period.
