Black Swan Oscar contender Natalie Portman seems to be everywhere. She plays the heroine in the upcoming Universal comedy Your Highness opposite James Franco and Danny McBride, and stars opposite Chris Hemsworth in the Kenneth Branagh-directed Marvel film Thor, released May 6th. Here’s a new trailer for one that’s been sitting around for a long time. The Don Roos-directed The Other Woman was originally titled Love and Other Impossible Pursuits. It gets a VOD released by IFC on January 1 and limited theatrical release February 4.

A young homewrecker who ends up with both the husband and the affections of the ex-wife’s son. Sounds like the type of movie every woman wants to see (insert sarcasm). Gee I wonder why they sat on this for a while and are now trying to get some mileage out of Portman’s anticipated Oscar nomination. The scums even released the trailer after her pregnancy announcement to get maximum benefit.
I don’t really think that the movie is being specifically targeted at woman. There are plenty of men out there, like myself, who are interested in a flick like this. It seems a little sexist of you to assume other wise, and you know what the say about people who assume.
I do have to say though, the rest of your post seems spot on.

Very nice to see Scott Cohen in a good feature role. I’ve met him in some casting sessions, but don’t know him personally and haven’t worked with him, but on TV he never fails to elevate anything he appears in, as a regular or guest star. He’s earned roles like this in bigger features.
One more movie that validates office romance. One more venue telling the man that the wife at home means nothing, just the one in front of you all day means something. What happened to treasuring your wife? What happened to making her your world, loving her more than you love yourself? And why are women so damn independent that they rather work on their projects than their marriage? What is wrong with belonging to your husband if he loves you more than his own life?
Why can’t a “damned independent woman” have both her projects AND her marriage, if she wants? Maybe because she wants to depend on herself instead of a man?
Go back to 1950.
This movie does look lame, though.

The movie does not come across as a validation of anything. This just seems like a portrait, however dramatized, of real life. In real life, people fall out of love with their husband or wife. The really cheat on said husband or wife. They can also really get remarried and be happily in love and devoted to a second wife, which is what seems to be the case in this move. Go stick your square peg in the right hole…which seems to be an alternate reality.

I’m a little over Natalie Portman. I know she’s Hollywood’s little princess. But she didn’t meet my expectactions as a grown up actress.

Oscar notwithstanding, no one with any credibility thinks she has an iota of talent. She’s worse than all the other actors who people deride for lacking talent. I think she’s worse than Ashton Kutcher, personally. Which is why I’ll be first on line for NSA.

Sounds like a bunch of “Haters” on here! If you are an insecure woman that was left by your husband and now you are too old to snag a fella, don’t hate on this film or actress because of it. Natalie Portman will prove to be one of the most important actresses of her time. Don’t let your own personal self loathing get in the way of seeing that.
I just saw this movie, and, though really, who cares?? is a correct view about all this, I have to tell Anonymous that your limited view surprises me and has nothing to do with the movie…women today are lucky in that we do not need a man or men, neither to define us or complete us or really to do anything for us, and to assume that all women do need or want men is so misguided, I just really am shocked by your comment. I am a heterosexual woman who is better off in life since being single. Nothing so complicated as needing to delve deeply into my heterosexuality, just simply shocked by you.
