IFC, which over the past year acquired Mitch Hurwitz’s Arrested Development and Judd Apatow’s Freaks and Geeks and Undeclared, has also picked up the complete series of The Larry Sanders Show, The Ben Stiller Show, Mr. Show with Bob and David and Action. The comedy series also join previously acquired British classic Monty Python’s Flying Circus. IFC will air its 8 acquired series within a new 90-minute comedy block, which will feature exclusive new interviews with writers, creators and stars of each show along with comedians who have been influenced by them. The block, which will launch Jan. 3 and air 3 days a week, will be hosted by comedian Scott Aukerman.

Great that some of the most innovative comedy will get more exposure. And kudos to IFC for developing a true brand in comedy.
Agreed. Admirable move. Smart move.
For what I suspect is a relatively modest investment they will likely see a handsome collection of young, smart, affluent (read: advertiser-coveted) eyeballs showing up.
Let’s be honest: these guys have great taste in comedy.
Very smart play by IFC. Interesting comedy series for precisely their audience, enhanced by interstitial and added content to make it fresh. Now if they find a branding partner to ‘present’ it and if they put on an original series or two, they may just become the channel we’ve been waiting for. Independent television for independent people done independently.
scott aukerman is not a comedian, he’s a guy who a lot of comedians put up with.
Whoa, someone’s bitter about something. That’s pretty harsh to say Scott Auckerman isn’t a comedian. He was a writer and performer on Mr. Show, he directs Zach Galifanakis’s “Between Two Ferns,” he created and performs in Comedy Death Ray, the #1 comedy platform in LA… and he is the host/performer on the CDR podcast every week, where thousands of fans tune in to hear him improvise… if that’s not “a comedian” to you, then you have a very limited definition. Clearly you have some grudge. The comedy community, on the other hand, is excited for the new IFC stuff!
Good on you for listing his credits but, yeah, we put up with him.
All syndicated pick-ups? Does IFC produce any of its own content? If not, why?
Yeah, It’s called, “The Increasingly Poor Decisions of Todd Margaret.”
Several hilarious comedies. I’m glad someone is pulling these together and keeping them on air.
Wait a minute. Where’s Parker Lewis Can’t Lose? Definately should be on this list. That show blazed the way for so many others!
Scott Aukerman is a great choice for this! He was a cast member and writer for Mr. Show. His Comedy Death Ray podcast (itunes & earwolf.com)is consistently hilarious. Kudos!
A few suggestions for other shows IFC should pick up:
It’s Like You Know
My World and Welcome To It
Action
And I’ll second the aforementioned Parker Lewis.
“Action” is actually one of the shows they’ve bought.
“Action” *is* one of the shows they picked up!
They should add the ABC sitcom Carpoolers to the list. It was a short run but one of the funniest sitcoms in years.
Anyone for “Nightstand With Dick Dietrick”? “Oh, People, no!”
Philly Boy – Loved “Dick Dietrick”! Which, of course, starred Tim Stack from Parker Lewis Can’t Lose!
Ha- ‘Comment by Larry’ (prob AKA scott aukerman) the only reason this guy is around is because he coordinates shows. He’s certainly not funny – and everybody knows that. Ifc on the other hand is doing GREAT by booking these shows- Mitch Hurwitz and Apatow are funny – and everything they make is (even if not always bankable). I’d put money on ifc going to a no-host format after a couple of runs – OR if they are even smarter they bring in Dick Deitrich to host – Tim Stack IS funny.
Now I love all these shows…but really, anyone who loves them might as well just get the entire runs on DVD, rather than pay for a subscription. Not that IFC doesn’t have some other quality movies, but you know what I mean? These shows had small, but very faithful followings that have probably gone for the dvds by now.
It’s like any show that was genuinely funny and a cult hit (Daria, Duckman, The Critic, even Profit) has been done in.
I agree with Plcl, Parker Lewis is not completely collected yet..others of my personal faves include.
3-South (mtv? anyone remember this?)
Flying Blind
Reginald Perrin or The Goodies (British, madcap)
Scott’s a funny, smart guy. He does the “Between to Ferns” interviews with Galifianakis. If that’s not funny enough for you, you’re a moron.
Scott Aukerman is very funny and will make a great host. He is a perfect choice to host.
Also pick up Wonder Showzen!
