EXCLUSIVE: Jimmy Kimmel has signed a new two-year extension with ABC to continue as the host/executive producer of the network’s late-night show Jimmy Kimmel Live!, which will continue to air at 12:05 AM for the time being. The new deal will take the show into its 10th season. Kimmel’s current pact was up next month. During this past November sweep, Jimmy Kimmel Live posted year-to-year increases in both total viewers and adults 18-49, growing its audience for the 4th time in the past 5 years. In total viewers Kimmel (1.86 million) outdelivered Jimmy Fallon (1.79 million) or CBS’ Craig Ferguson (1.79 million). The best news about the renewal – Kimmel can continue to be a fixture at ABC’s May upfront presentation in New York.

Good decision. I may be going out on a limb here, but I’d bet that nobody but Jimmy Kimmel could possibly play Jimmy Kimmel on “Jimmy Kimmel Live!”

Good for Jimmy he is always funnier than Leno or Letterman. His bits don’t always pay off but he has the most creative writing staff of all the late night interview shows.

All right when will Guillermo get his own show? He can bring in the Hispanic demo just as good as George Lopez can. Guillermo Live is the show I want to watch every night after Kimmel. Will ABC do the right thing and give Guillermo his own talk show? They better. If they don’t there will be a lot of angry viewers starting with me.

Why mention that he has more viewers than Fallon and Ferguson? They both come on 30 MINUTES LATER. It’s not even the same time slot.
How can you compare Kimmel to Fallon and Ferguson, shows that begin a half hour later? Absurd. And total viewers don’t mean jack. It’s all about the demo. On a Hollywood site like this I’d expect you to post demo ratings not total viewers.
I like Kimmel, I’m just sayin’ don’t compare him to shows that start later. Fallon is on fire lately. Very funny. Head-to-head he’d beat Kimmel.
Jon stewart is doing great, Colbert is the mock-master, Letterman is always on vacation and as for Leno, well, I don’t watch unfunny backstabbers.

Desperate much, ABC? Comparing Kimmel’s show to shows that start later is ridiculous. If Kimmel had any talent, any talent at all, he could beat the second half of Leno and Letterman, whose ratings dribble off as the hour progresses.
With these press releases, ABC isn’t fooling anyone, except maybe themselves. Really? That schlub for two more years?
Late night’s been a monkey on my back ever since Bill Carter’s first book. What I would really like to see would be all the late night guys doing their shows on Ferguson’s budget. That would separate the talented hosts from the overpaid, overhyped and overproduced hosts real fast. It would be compelling television too.
