Lucasfilm settled civil charges that were brought against the company and rival Pixar Animation by the U.S. Justice Department for stifling competition for digital animation workers. Pixar had already settled its end of the situation in September, one of six companies in the technology sector to do so. Lucasfilm and Pixar developed a system where they agreed not to approach employees of the rival company. They contacted each other when they were planning to make an offer and would not bidding against one another. This was an effective way to hold down salaries, but it was done at the expense of the digital animators and is illegal.

Yet another reason to boycott George Lucas and the crap he makes. HAN SHOT FIRST!
I love Lucas’ stuff but doesn’t he have enough $$$$? Why do this to make even more?
Oh and RE….”don’t impersonate anyone, don’t get your facts wrong, and don’t bore me.”
Who died and made you Pope?
Big George is keeping it classy…
Does agreeing to not poach each other’s employees sound like a rivalry to you?
Pixar originated at Lucasfilm. The two companies are friendly. It’s why trailers for each of the Star Wars prequels debuted on Pixar movies.
I hoped they pay millions in fines.
I’d like to see the millions paid to the employees who had their salaries suppressed by this scheme.
To bastardize paraphrase Adam Smith:
People of the same trade seldom meet together, even for merriment and diversion, but when they do their conversation often ends in a conspiracy against the public (or their employees.)
So where is the news of Pixar/Disney settling the same case? Are they putting up a fight or are the Feds less inclined to settle with them at this stage for some reason?
What a bunch of sleaze-bags, colluding to artificially depress wages and limit opportunities for creative talent.
It’s sickening how some people hold these companies up as examples of good corporate citizens, or as companies that value their employees.
In America there’s no penalty for doing wrong, only for getting caught. Lucas got caught with his hand in the cookie jar. Big deal. Let’s not pretend the very wealthy got that way by playing fair.
Shame on them both, we already don’t have a lick of job security and our wages are falling partly because of agreements like this.
What about the people they shafted? Do they come out with anything? I hope anyone who has digitally animated anything at Pixar Animation and Lucasfilm fires up their lawyers!
Now how about going after the AMPTP? How do they get away doing a joint negotiation for all the studios? What’s the difference? It also eliminates competition for labor and suppresses salaries.
It is a small world after all.
You know that quote is referring to guilds, right?
Just make em sign no competition clause next time…So if they quit don’t let them sign with a competing company for 6 months…
If George Lucas boycotts American workers by outsourcing toy production and animation work to India and China, Americans should boycott Star Wars. He owes everything he has to the people who paid to see his movies, many of which live in the US.He could at least make an attempt to place some of those jobs in the US but greed has obviously gotten the best of him. SHAME ON YOU MR LUCAS. I for one will hold him accountable by never again buying any of his products.
