UPDATES Release Date For Mel Gibson In ‘The Beaver’
Summit Entertainment announced just now that it has scheduled the Jodie Foster-directed film The Beaver starring Mel Gibson for a March 23rd limited engagement and an April 8th expansion. Once the studio decided not to give the film an Oscar qualifying run, it was just a question of when the best release date was. The film was supposed to debut in 2010 but the studio delayed when Mel’s rants against his ex-girlfriend became a matter of public record. Jodie has described Gibson’s performance as ”one of his most powerful and moving performances”. In the film, Gibson plays a father who walks around talking to a beaver hand puppet. In the fall, a CBS News/Vanity Fair poll that found 76% of respondents saying Gibson’s personal troubles would have no effect on whether they would see one of his movies.

honestly after I saw the trailer the film is much better than I thought it would be. i’ll still see it but Mel Gibson is going to be hard to watch!
Great news! Thank you!
There are lots of us out here that realize an argument usually consists of lots of nasty things said. It was meant to be PRIVATE (not to mention that Ox herself admits the tapes are EDITED, words in words out.)
There are more slurs made in any music CD these days, any movie, than Mel ever thought about saying. His ex agency was more guilty than Mel ever was of prejudiced statement. Jesse jackson is more guilty than Mel is.
Love Mel! Always have, always will!
This is a bomb. The trailer is awful.
Just get it over with and send it straight to DVD. That’s where it belongs.
america will fall in love with mel gibson again for this oscar worthy portrayal.
Mel Gibson uses a puppet to speak to the people around him. Thinking it might be offbeat and funny, I was looking forward to watching the movie until I saw the trailer. It looks more like a guy on a downward spiral that is painful to watch. Even though Jodi Foster is a phenomenal talent, I will be staying home for this one.
I will tell you that you should not depend on the trailer itself. I am too disappointed with this trailer but when I saw the movie itself it is great.
Mel Gibson is Evil… he is a horrible person and I will be boycotting all his movies and any actor who works with him. He is a cancer, but only much worse. He deserves to dine in Hell with Hitler and Mussolini. I will be standing outside my local movieplex talking people into seeing a different movie even if I need to offer to pay for their tickets to see something else. Plus the movie looks terrible. Like really really terrible. Mel Gibson is responsible for all the hate in the world.
Too funny. All views are through Hollywood not anywhere else. Your average person does not care one bit about Gibson’s personal life. Expect numbers much larger than Edge of Darkness. Bank on it.
Boycotting someone at work for how they conduct themselves in their private life seems silly to me… But if it is your money, feel free to spend (or to not spend) it how you like.
Boycotting the local bus line because one of their drivers is alleged to have smacked his wife is stupid, but it is your right to be stupid.
All the hoopla over Mel Gibson just makes me think of him as the Jane Fonda of our time. Eventually, people will be raised to hate him from birth. They won’t fully understand why they are supposed to hate him. All they will know is that it is uncool to not hate him.
Why boycott the people who work with him? They are not endorsing his private behavior. They are doing a job to pay the bills.
Why not boycott every theater that tries to make a buck by showing the movie? Paying for a ticket to another movie still puts money in the theater owner’s pocket. They will never learn from that. And have the courage of your convictions, don’t boycott them just during the theatrical release. Show them you mean business and withhold your patronage forever. One less person in line when I go to watch my next movie… Yeah!
If my co-worker allegedly beat his wife, I am not going to quit my job… Especially not in this economy.
Bottom line: Mel Gibson and Jodi Foster are engaging actors. If the trailer had made this movie seem the least bit entertaining, I would see it in the theater. Sadly, the trailer is horribly depressing, so if I catch it at all… It will be for free on cable. Well, as long as the band of boycotters don’t put my cable company out of business for trying to make a buck by daring to add the film to their lineup.
