EXCLUSIVE: This is the reason that Universal Studios president/COO Ron Meyer and his team trekked to Arkansas last week for a personal visit to the Wal-Mart headquarters. I’ve just learned that Universal’s first family film/toon unit from Chris Meledandri’s Illumination Entertainment’s Despicable Me made first-day sales on Blu-ray, DVD, and digital downloads of nearly $25 million Tuesday. What made the difference was the exclusive debut of three all-new mini-movies on the DVD Double Pack, Blu-ray Combo Pack and 3D Combo Pack starring the film’s wildly popular Minions. The mega-hit animated family comedy sold well over one million units to consumers (excluding rentals) in its first 24 hours of release and is poised to become the 2nd biggest-grossing animated home entertainment title of the year. The movie has already grossed $500+M in worldwide box office.

Great news for a great picture. Good job Chris!
I bought the DVD/Blu-ray combo pack from Amazon.com for $8.99. That made it a no-brainer for me to pick it up.
How many units did they sell-through?
What is the #1?
Toy Story 3. Nevermind.
The DVD is all and good, but try getting your hands on those plush toys!! They could have made a killing with the toys but they dropped the ball big time.
The movie was mostly enjoyable by this sincere adult but for the lagging question – What are the minions, exactly? Are they supposed to be extra-terrestrials, genetically-engineered clones, or mutated Simpsons characters?
Chris has done it again ! He is a great filmmaker and a wonderful person.I cant wait for his next movie. Fox were stupid to have let him go…their loss.
You know when a movie is garbage is when you get maybe a couple of chuckles not laughs chuckles out of a $150 milllion dollar film, and he wasn’t even despicable so misleading. GARBAGE GARBAGE GARBAGE and I really wanted to like it, too bad
I LOVED the darned thing. I bought my copy on Amazon, then later found out about the double disc with the 3 new Minion movies… Ka – Ching! … back to Amazon. I now own 2 copies of the movie, but have searched in vain for something that I REALLY want… tiny little Minions of my own… If I could find itty bitty plastic/resin Minions, maybe 2″ high… I’d collect HUNDREDS of them, to start my OWN Minion army. I’d ask friends to buy them for me at Christmas, and birthdays. (The stuffed toys, and even THEY are hard to get, just don’t do it for me.) Someone please tell me that FOX didn’t drop the ball completely, and that somewhere, somehow, these will one day become available.
*sigh*
A great big THANK YOU to everyone who worked on the film.
I really enjoyed this cartoon film and try to write it in my paper. I also like the minions no matter what they are.
