MTV is looking to launch a series starring Paul “DJ Pauly D” Delvecchio, signing a series option deal with the Jersey Shore cast member. In September, Delvecchio starred in a pilot presentation produced by 495 Prods., the company behind Jersey Shore. The new project would explore Delvecchio’s “life away from the shore,” MTV’s EVP of programming and head of production Chris Linn said. “At the heart of Jersey Shore is the unique and genuine cast and Pauly D. truly embodies both qualities,” Linn said. “He’s distinguished himself onscreen as the fun-loving, well-coiffed and dependable guy you can’t help but want to hang out with.”

I actually thought I’d hate these people when I first watched the show, but they’re mostly so self-unaware and douchy it’s endearing. I’ve found that most people who don’t like Jersey Shore for the parody that it is are people who had “social issues” as teens and transfer their resentment toward former bullies onto these people on TV.

First of all: the corporate network dolt’s quote here is the most intelligent sounding thing to this entire “situation” (had to). And he makes this B-level co-star sound like the next President. MTV programming used to be cutting, current, and unique. Now, it seems to appeal to junior high aged teens, and get stupider every cycle. Why would a series be greenlit about this B-list guido? … arguably the most uncharismatic, least interesting “character” on this trainwreck show (Sam being #1)? Like all the rest of these 15minute kids, Pauly D has very little going for him in the way of ambition, life skills, or service work to society… what the hell are these “reality” producers gonna set up for this loser to do? MTV is a bigger disappointment every day. Where are the fresh idea shows about gay teens, teens of color, teens trying to make it in the music biz…? THIS kid is “MUSIC TELEVISION”?!

I watch Jersey shore every week, I never miss it. I am educated, I am a business owner, I am married with children. I actually like the cast. The truth is, if you “hate these people”, and you don’t realize what you are watching, then you are not intelligent enough to “get it”. The show is absurd, yes. I can’t believe that this show as reach this type of success, yep. But that’s what so great about it, so many people are watching this laughing at these people. And they are in on the joke. They know that they are over-the-top at this point. They don’t take themselves seriously. The show is also well produced, they create drama over anything, its well-edited and for an hour a week it really entertains. Its the same reason why we watch clowns at the circus, these are just clowns of that scene. And they know it, and they are running with it. Don’t hate, you’ll have your 15 mins.
Isn’t Jersey Shore the most successful show on MTV ever? Deadline readers and commenter’s may hate the show and all that the cast members stand for, but these rag tag assortment of nobodies have made the network a lot of money and there’s no arguing with that. You can hate it and Pauly D., but he’s making bank. Does it even matter that the show is successful or not at this point anyway? No one knows and it could just become a huge hit. These kids have personality and are characters that the MTV audience seems to love. Can’t argue with that.
