Fox will not be giving a back-nine order to crime procedural Lie to Me, whose current third season will consist of 13 episodes. Sources at the network stress that the show has not been canceled, with final decision expected to be made in the spring. The rationale for the order cutback is that Fox won’t need more episodes from the Tim Roth-starring series because, according to the network’s recently announced midseason schedule, Lie To Me is only slated to run through Jan. 31, with midseason drama The Chicago Code taking over its Monday 9 PM slot on Feb. 7. Last season, Fox ended up with 12 episodes of Lie to Me in the can after ordering 22 and only using the series for the fall. The network ended up airing those 12 episodes over the summer.

Interesting week for Shawn Ryan. Terriers gets booted. Now his show is getting bumped by… his show.
Well, Shawn Ryan isn’t showrunning season 3, so, not exactly. But it is an interesting situation nonetheless.
Makes sense. The first season was good, then they started relying to much on surprise appearances from Lightman’s past, too many “Ultimate Boss” style baddies for Lightman to spar with, inconsistent character mini-arcs and the long game started to suffer from a general, “Where do we go from here,” feel. It’s frustrating, because I liked the show and Roth in general, and it seems like they’ve just lost the plot.
What’s going on with Running Wilde? Is it officially cancelled yet?
Please don’t cancel this show! I am tired of great shows getting sent off while other crap is put on (Lonestar). Lie to Me is an original show and Tim Roth and Kelli Williams are great together. I am also mad about Good Guys going away, what other shows are left? No wonder the cable networks are having success, they know quality shows when they see them!
It’s numbers, baby. Get your friends to watch the show. Then they’ll keep it.
The show had decent numbers up against Dancing with the Stars, football and baseball…and then last week’s episode had a 29% increase when it wasn’t against DWTS and sports – so, this show would kick ass and grow its audience if it had a decent time slot.
This is one of the BEST shows on TV. Why do they always cancel the good ones!!!! Please bring it back!
I agree. Lie to Me is a wonderful show. It is exciting and still clean enough to let older kids watch. It’s not too violent and has good plots. I’m tired of the good shows going away. I’ll just turn the t.v. off completely. Love Lightman!!!!!! and Kelli too. Please don’t take it off.
I’m with you on this one. It’s a great and different show and My wife and I both love the show.
Chris – yes, Running Wilde is officially dead. . It’s being burned off on Tuesdays and Sundays (at 7) this month. All 13 are scheduled to air by the end of the year.
Or maybe… THEY’RE LYING??!!!
(twitch, twitch, shrug, *BLINK* *BLINK*)
Shocked it lasted this long.
Pretty witty. I loved the concept but felt the show never realized its potential, and the second year quickly lost its appeal for me. It became as sensationalistic as those CSI things. I like Tim Roth but didn’t like Lightman, so I would rather see him on another show. I love Kelli Williams, I hope she goes on to do something else soon. Obviously, it’s being cancelled, too many shows have gone this route lately. Why don’t they just call it as it is, and not pretend it’s actually being considered for another season?
Ha! My hero.
“Lie to Me” is appointment TV for me, and I try to watch every episode. To reply to the critics above, I have not seen many blasts from Lightman’s past. Season 3 is as fresh for me as season 1.
Please come back for season 4. Then maybe write some better subplots for Lightman’s two assistants.
Randy, there are plenty. Off the top of my head, there have been old girlfriends, a guy he used to steal with, DOD people he used to work with, CIA people he used to work with. It’s slices of backstory as a maguffin, which isn’t unique, yet somehow feels more like grasping at straws to keep the audience engaged in this show. It just feels overplayed.
I liked, and want to like the show. Just feel like it’s becoming generic. Cal’s ticks have taken on a pro forma feel that have made them less fun as well.
Well, I’m just catching up with the series but I got a massive crush on Tim Roth right now.
I thought season one was amazing, but I’m mind way through season 2 and I can see they were trying to stretch it. So I’m not against short seasons.
“Although its not officially canceled”, is network speak for…”We’ll just string this out long enough to see if The Chicago Code pulls a Lone Star or not. If not, THEN, Lie To Me is DEAD. But not officially. It wont officially be dead, even in May, or ever. You just won’t see it again. You know…sorta like Jimmy Hoffa”.
I really liked the premise of this show, so I watched early on. But Tim Roth, whose work I usually enjoy in the movies, is just so hammy here that it rivals even David Caruso for pure hack value. That thing he does with his head when he’s questioning a suspect drives me up the walls. He cocks his head to one side, like he’s trying to see around a pole, or trying to dodge a low-hanging lamp, and this is supposed to pass for some sort of high-minded perception. It’s a cheap actor’s gimmick and it wore thin by episode 2. Good riddance.
Learn something about body language, eye contact and persuasion. He is doing this by the book and I feel it is very effective. Caruso is an idiot.
I have to respectfully disagree, I love everything about Roths character and body language in the show!! It is similar to Vincent D’Onofrio in Law and Order Criminal Intent, which made him very popular, and we all know how long L&O has been around. It’s always the same old thing, but you love the characters, so it never gets old!! It is an interesting posture and I very much enjoy his style. I for one hope the show continues on for a long time. I just started watching the first two seasons on Netflix last week and I for one am HOOKED!!! LOVE IT!!!!!
Fox is miserable at programming and even worce at marketing their programs. I just discovered Lie To Me a few months ago thanks to Netflix. I caught up on the first 2 seasons with Netflix instant viewing. Now I watch it every week and of course, now that I’ve discovered it Fox is probably going to replace it. If they would hype their shows better so that people know what they are!!!!!!!! more shows would last longer. Another show that I only discovered (too late) from Netflix was Firefly. Fox really needs to learn marketing. So far that cop show (The Chicago Code) doesn’t look impressive enough for me to want to even check it out. They seem to be marketing the heck out of that but hardly ever show clips of Lie To Me. They really have things bass ackwards!!! Fox probably thinks we’re all kids who don’t know what we’re talking about but, I’m not a kid, I’m a grandmother so get with it Fox!!
Come on! This is one of the best shows on TV right now!
Lie to Me!to me is a great series. I haven’t seen S3 yet, whatever happens please don’t cancel this show:)
One of the best shows on TV. Good writing and acting. DO NOT CUT THIS SHOW!
I recently started watching this show & I can’t go a week without it! I love the premise & the chemistry between Tim & Kelli… Great actors separate & together. The main problem is that Fox has very ineffective advertising for this show. I never see commercials etc. I only started watching it because the third season premier show was free on iTunes… Now, I spend my days asking friends if they watch this show… Most have never heard of it & now watch it after my prompting. We need to write to Fox & request what we want… Or ask another network to run it with better advertising! Love to hear your thoughts… I want more…
I totally agree with you & have experienced a very similar viewing tragedy. Because Fox has very poor promotional abilities, we the fans will suffer. I truly believe this show has great potential given better story lines & better advertising. Lie To Me carries much more interest & depth than most of the shows being aired. Our family will ban Fox if this show is cancelled. Check out YouTube ,Fox ,if you question the fan base…

Man, this is the best thing on US TV. The best.
If you like Tim Roth, see ‘The Hit,’ a Criterion DVD — Netflix has it.
This is my very favorite show to watch these days. If you like Tim Roth, watch ‘The Hit,’ a Criterion DVD. Netflix has it.
oh me too! ive been a fan of Tim Roth since Pulp Fiction! although he scares the crap out of me, I love it!
As an actor involved in a show that I was trying to “save” once told me: “You never get told the show is canceled, it just goes away”. So until people keep pressing Fox demanding answers this show will slowly but surely drift off the radar, and even then it will probably disappear. It’s all about ratings and money for networks, they don’t really care what the fans want. We lose shows like this because sadly more people are watching reality shows which are cheaper and easier to make for the networks; and unfortunately someone must be watching them or we wouldn’t have such a proliferation of them on all the networks. The reason we lose scripted shows like this is reality shows are so popular they take jobs away from “real” actors. When a group of the Reality Housewives complain about how much Snooki and the rest of the Jersey Shore cast members are making over there, that should be a HUGE indicator that TV is slowly going into the toilet with the loss of scripted shows like Lie to Me and others.
Write and call the executives of Fox. Tell them what you want. All you’ve lost is a little bit of time and at least you could say that you tried.
maggiemay…how do I contact them??? help, Ill do it 10 times a day, I swear! lol
PLEASE PLEASE TELL ME, WHO CAN I WRITE TO ABOUT LIE TO ME? I LOVE THIS SHOW!!! I think this premise is brilliant! stories always different, instead of a formula ie:l&o…csi…Tim Roth is amazing! love all his intra personal relationships..love the kid who plays his daughter,so cute how she tries to be blank so he cant read her…tons of chemistry w/gillian…torres is great as a “natural” reader..whats wrong w/fox? not enough stupid programs lined up? I swear if they kill this show, Ill never watch a fox show again!!!
jmo, liz,vegas
I just read your post, and pretty much had just posted the same thing.. SUCKS BAD. Not a fan of fox
Please do not cancel “Lie to Me”. It’s a great show and I watch it every week. I’m devastated if it is preempted by something else. It’s one of the few shows that I will watch over anything else. Roth and Williams are a great team. Also, please bring back “Flashpoint”. Fox has so very few great shows because they continually cancel the good ones against the viewers’ votes.
Please don’t cancel the show. Read all of the posts here, and agree, tell your friends, write the network, stop watching all of the “reality” crap.
Cal’s ticks would certainly be annoying ….particularly if he were applying them onto you, but it’s fascinating to watch him aggravate others on the tube and get to the “meat” on the bone!
The show is entertaining, and makes you think.
Sit back and let yourself be entertained!!
Not so Sly FOX…. this was a loved show by my whole family…. from a year old girl to a year old grandma…. With so many things to choose from these days it makes it hard to stay loyal to a station who is mostly about the bottom line. There are many up and competitive stations with more loyalty to the arts than to their budget.
No more trust in fox, in HB
