EXCLUSIVE: ER alumna Parminder Nagra is set for a lead role on Fox’s pilot Alcatraz. Also in negotiations to join in the J.J. Abrams-produced pilot is veteran Robert Forster. The drama project, from Warner Bros. TV, Abrams’ Bad Robot and executive producer/showrunner Liz Sarnoff, chronicles the efforts of a cop (Sarah Jones) and team of FBI agents tracking down a group of missing Alcatraz prisoners and guards who reappear in the present day.
Sam Neill was just cast as Emerson Hauser, a head of a government agency. Nagra will play his lab technician, Lucy. Forster, who was nominated for an Oscar for his supporting role in Jackie Brown, will play Ray Archer, a retired detective who is now owner/bartender of a cop hangout bar. Following her breakthrough performance in the 2002 film Bend It Like Beckham, Nagra joined NBC’s medical drama ER, on which she co-starred for six seasons, until the show’s end in April 2009. She is with Gersh and 3 Arts. Forster, who recurred on NBC’s Heroes as Peter and Nathan Petrelli’s dad Arthur, is with Don Buchwald & Assoc.

Love love love Rob Forster. Great addition.
Love love love Parminder Nagra. Great addition. Everything Indian is hot right now.
“Love love love Parminder Nagra. Great addition. Everything Indian is hot right now.”
yup. shelley conn is also in the upcoming tv series terra nova and freida pinto is in rise of the apes. looks like indian actresses are more in demand than actors. why is that?
That’s not true. You have Danny Pudi in Community, Aziz Ansari in Parks & Recreation, Irrfan Khan in In Treatment and the upcoming Spiderman reboot, Dev Patel in The Last Airbender and Avan Jogia in Victorious.
So for some reason Indian people are being added in every tv show. Not that I’m complaining coz I’m half Indian.
you’re right. what i meant to say was indian actresses are becoming viable leading ladies, whereas indian actors are usually relegated to supporting roles.
Oh that’s true. I guess it’s because most of the leads are Caucasian males and since the main demographic that’s being targeted are young white males, it’s not going to change much.
Or it’s just that Indian actors are finally being recognized. It’s not like there’s an Indian person in every single show or movie. At the end of the day, white people are always the most in demand, but good for talent of all ethnicities being recognized.
Ok I’m officially getting excited for this now. Sam Neill, Robert Forster, Parminder Nagra and Jorge Garcia. That’s a great cast. Now I just hope they get writing worthy of their talents.
The real winner is Les Moonves. Fox is jackin’ his swagga… To coin a phrase.
Ok, this is becoming a must see pilot with the excellent cast. I can’t wait for this. I just hope it doesn’t disappoint.
This pilot is attracting alot of great charcter actors, they must really love what they’re reading, this may not suck.
They hope they’re signing on for the next Lost. Sounds like the same kind of story.
I met Mr. Forster at a script reading (for an indie feature) he agreed to read a role in and the guy is top, top notch class wise.
Young actors could learn a thing or two about graciousness and how to handle yourself in public from him.
The guy’s great in everything he acts in. Here’s hoping this pilot works.
I’d be hard pressed to be happier about someone showing up steadily on my TV screen than Robert Forster. Of all the folks that Tarantino’s given a boost to, I’m happiest about Forster because he’s the guy who’s truly appreciated it the most. And it’s a CRIME he was nominated for anything in “Diamond Men,” one of those great, tragically underseen indie flicks that everyone should see but hardly anyone’s actually heard of.
I was just wondering what Parminder was up to. Awesome for her!
