Fans didn’t rally behind The Good Guys to give it a boost in the finale last night. The Fox dramedy (0.7/2, 2.3 million) matched its demo rating from the last 2 weeks to finish fifth in its 9 PM slot and second to last among all programs on the night – original or repeats – with only the 8 PM Good Guys rerun (0.6/2, 1.9 million) behind it. With CBS airing drama reruns (average of 1.2/4, 7.4 million for the night), ABC took the top Friday spot in adults 18-49 (1.4/5, 5.1 million) for the second time this season. (CBS was still No. 1 in total viewers.) NBC was a close second in the demo (1.3/4, 5.7 million). ABC and NBC were tied for first place at 8 PM (1.2/4) with new Supernanny (1.2/4) and a Minute to Win It repeat. ABC won the 9 PM hour with Primetime: What Would You Do? (1.5/5), while NBC had the edge at 10 PM with the second hour of Deadline (1.6/5). CW continues to be competitive on the night with Smallville (1.0/4, down a tenth from last week, 2.6 million) and Supernatural (1.0/3, flat, 2.2 million). In adults 18-34, Supernatural was up 25%.

Good Guys was a funny well-written show with good performances. Sorry to see it go
Its the Texas/AFTRA right-to-work-State curse. Did you learn anything Fox?
Lonestar: Biggest Bomb Ever?
The Good Guys: Massive Bomb
The Deep End: Big Bomb
Chase: Bombing
ABC’s big Texas/AFTRA fail:
My Generation: Huge Bomb
USA should pick up “Good Guys” and run it as lead in for “Burn Notice”. It,s a great show in need of a great time slot.
agreed. friday night is a death slot, especially for a show that is geared towards a younger crowd.
I just couldn’t get interested in The Good Guys, I don’t know why.
I saw the first two episodes of “The Good Guys” and it was a mess. This is one show that did merit cancellation. I’m crossing my fingers that The Event follows very soon because that is a huge mess.
Hmmm, let’s see:
Good Guys… Lone Star… Human Target…. Terra Nova is a undisputed disaster (it’s a special, it’s a series, no wait, we don’t have any scripts so it’s a special again)… Lie to Me (no back 9 and no one cares about it)….
… who’s steering the SS Fox as it heads into an ice berg? Who developed/chose this stuff?
Human Target is a prime example of gross mismanagement. Great first season – then they “fixed” everything, added new cast members changed the tone, the music, the dynamic and it is sinking fast.
Fox TV development is a mess. The folks there are so out of touch. It is sad to pitch to them. I have to warn all my clients before they take the meeting just how dumb their decision making process is and how their questions will smell up the room.
Whatever their mandate is from on high… it ain’t working.
Fox needs to get back to its roots and stop trying to be CBS-lite.
It used to stand for edgy programming then they let cable sib FX steal the limelight. I’m not talking getting back to that reality When Animals Attack Joe Millionaire crap.
Here is my FOX mandate.
A) A raunchy sitcom starring a black comedian.
B) A soapy sudser in the spirit of Aaron Spelling or JSchwa
C) Stuff that would air on FX
D) That’s not as an ambitious mandate as I wanted to make when I started it.
We just need some blockbusters. I want a TRIPLE THREAT blockbuster fall from someone circa Lost/Greys/Desperate Housewives. I don’t care what network it is. Just bring me 3 hit shows, all on one network, all in one season. Even the CW could pull it off.
TV is shooting itself in the foot. You can’t make all your money back in the first 4 months. People are not going to want to follow new series until they know they are well-established. Otherwise they’ve invested in 3 or 4 shows that may not be there in a few months, and it’s a big letdown when they’re suddenly gone.
“Good guys” was well-edited with quality actors who could handle the show’s spry touches. It’s a shame fox couldn’t find a place for it, instead letting it languish in that friday night coffin. Hopefully, a network (like usa) can make a place for it…
If Colin Hanks wasnt related to Tom Hanks he would be making yr coffee at Starbucks. He is so dead-eyed and lame – so vanilla and middle of the road – I am sick of seeing him suck in high profile projects. The show might have worked with Whitford actually had someone to play off of.
OH, yes – we most assuredly DID rally behind the show. Too bad we weren’t the O-So-Special NIELSEN families.
