Showtime will use the Dexter finale to get big sampling for new drama Shameless, which is slated to premiere January 9. The pay cable network will preview the first 20 minutes of Shameless following the Dexter season finale this Sunday. Based on the UK series, Shameless, from John Wells and Paul Abbott, stars William H. Macy and Emmy Rossum. Macy plays Frank Gallagher, a far-from-stellar working-class patriarch of an unconventional Chicago brood of six motley kids whose eldest daughter (Rossum) keeps the home afloat while he’s out drinking and carousing. Joan Cusack recurs as an agoraphobic Chicago housewife who strikes up a special friendship with Frank. Here is the trailer:

So excited for Shameless!
The original series is so brilliant… I hope that Abbott’s involvement with this American translation keeps it from going the way of “Coupling” or the other bevy of failed American remakes of great British shows.
This is the most obnoxious looking show I’ve ever seen. I can’t even stand to watch the promos.
I wasn’t excited about it, but then watched the pilot and confirmed what I felt from the promos. It’s a dreadful show. It’s moody and depressing and hard to watch. This will be a test for Showtime.
Again, another all white cast. Why is ok to do “edgy” shows about white alcoholics (SHAMELESS) or white criminals (DEXTER), but not “edgy” shows about African-American or Asian-American or Mexican-American or Native American characters?
Get over yourself.
the baby Liam looked to be African American (or mixed)
Wait a second — if they did a show about Latino or Af-Am alcoholics or criminals, you’d be crying racism.
Shut-up and write one.
Because nobody responds to Blacks in anything other than hip-hop, Tyler Perry chitlin-circuit coon-fests. Did you see the black war movie “Miracle at St. Anna”? No? Did you watch “Undercovers”? Probably not. The era of intelligent blacks in mass media ended when “The Cosby Show” went off the air.
Oh and nobody watched “Outlaw” with Jimmy Smits, either so there’s that.
PS: There *was* an edgy cable show with a lot of Blacks in it, it was called “The Wire.”
because they don’t usually sell, and they dont want to take a risk on their investment.
do you even work in entertainment? if you did you would know this…duh
one of the series regulars (not just the baby) is african-american. do your research before you hate and complain.
Saw pilot. Good acting all around. Cute girl gets naked, has sex, that’s nice. But depressing as hell. In this economy do people really want to watch a story about an alcoholic father and his poor family…. guess we’ll see.
They made a big mistake in the promos by featuring an off-screen scene of one of the kids setting a cat on fire ( kid holding blowtorch, screaming cat yowls, etc.) ! No way I’m watching this one!
you know that didnt actually happen right?
You know that it doesn’t matter that “it didn’t happen” in real life, right? The mere depiction of it risks copycat crimes. Not cool.
No one tell this guy about Dexter then…
Breakout the word “breakout” when you mention Jeremy Allen White (his son LIP) The guy has been on my list since Rob Meyer’s Aquarium in 2007.
Depends on your definition of “all-white cast” the Gallaghers are white (save for Liam) and Veronica (who ended up being a major character in the original) are played by African-American actors and, last I saw, Kash Karib is still of West Asian heritage.
This looks promising. I could do without the 1/2 black baby, though.
I’ve heard this is clone of an English series, but it could just as well have been inspired by the bible beating grifter family, called the Palins, on LMN.
This show looks like it’s trying way too hard. And Bill Macy seems so self-aware. Think I’ll skip it.
Wow. This looks dreadful.
Why can’t they stick with the original channel 4 series.
I’m English and have lived in the US too (which I loved) but the cultures are so different.
Shameless (original) is such an accurate portrayal of the North of England that I think any remake in any other country seems like its trying too hard. Why have they got the same names?? Gallagher is a reference to the band Oasis who are from Manchester.
