Spike TV has renewed freshman reality series Auction Hunters for a second season with a 20-episode order, the largest ever for a second season of a Spike original series. The first season of the show, set in the world of storage-unit auctions, was for 8 episodes. It premiered on November 9 and has averaged 1.1 million viewers, increasing in viewership each week. This show is like the laziest version of American Pickers with these guys never having to meet the people who lost their stuff when they stopped payment on the storage units.
There’s just something coldblooded that makes it fringe upon witnessing graverobbery. At least with American Pickers and Pawn Stars, you meet the people and get the story. Here it’s just outbid smiley, pick through the booty and hit up their contacts for cash.
I just wish the producers would send out someone to find the people who abandoned the stuff to get their story. Why does a guy walk away from a truck with a new engine? Why did those people give up on their Coke machine? And how do you sell a gun without having any paperwork on it? Shouldn’t it be in the system?
Will we see people next season show up after seeing all their stuff get picked through?
Haven’t seen the show yet, but there was a fascinating This American Life podcast about auction hunters. It’s quite a little industry/hobby.
Auction Hunters has quickly become one of my favorite programs because of the two hosts and the neat things they find. The buyers are knowledgable, fun, likeable and very enthusiastic about otherwise dusty old antiques, often found covered in abandoned crap, left by irresponsible people who don’t pay their bills for whatever reason. It would be interesting to interview these folks and see what their stories are but none of that matters if you want to focus on the thrill of treasure hunting and the fun of selling the items to interesting characters. I suppose I wouldn’t watch it without the charm of the hosts because I hate American Pickers and that other poorly done auction show on A & E.
I would not waste my time on most of the reality TV. I have watched the other storage auctions and pawn shows and do not like the ugliness of the bidders….but I watched Auction Hunters for the first time today…and I loved it! Can’t wait to see more.
I have to admit the production value of this show is good but its just not a better show than Storage Wars. The fact that it has on going story lines and has a more dynamic structure makes SW more watchable.
The format of AH has been done and redone. Get item, determine value, sell, add up money. Why does anyone care to see these two guys make money?
Pickers, Pawns Stars and even Storage Wars has likable characters. This show does not. Allen is the least likable character on any of these shows.
I heard that Alan, got his butt beat in the storage wars show. They show him in the preview commercials all the time. Who’s that other guy?
Are we supposed to feel bad for people who are irresponsible and dont pay their bills? How is it these auction hunters fault that people have left their stuff behind?
You sound like such a baby! Lets all get private investigators to find the owners of the storage units and listen to their sad story on why they either forgot or lost their stuff. GREAT SHOW and I look forward to future seasons. SPIKE dont listen to moron democrats like this guy above!
I like this show a lot, watch it every week. If the episode last was a put on, forget I wrote. If however, the anger shown towards Ton by Allen is real, bugger off kid! You were most definitely out of line. I never heard you were suppose to be Ton’s boss man and if that’s the way you want it tell Ton or get someone else to be your ‘partner”. One screw up does not mean you have the right to speak to the man that way! “Bad friend” is what you said? I’d have walked right out the door and would not come back. If that’s what happens, I will not watch the show again!
I hope this last episode that played didnt end the show you two have a great thing going hope to see the show again this season
I would like to know if this show is coming out with new episodes. It ended bad with Ton leaving and that leaves people to believe it is now over. I hope those guys make up after Tons vacation as I really liked the show and hate to see it replaced with something that sucks like survivor or house wives of California.
