I have a response to that Washington Post report claiming House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s transition to minority leader is being aided behind the scenes by Steven Spielberg. The paper makes it sounds as though Spielberg will become a veritable House Whisperer, helping “rebrand” Democrats in Congress. But when I reached out to Spielberg’s longtime publicist Marvin Levy, he wrote me back: “Today’s story regarding Nancy Pelosi made a reference to Steven Spielberg that requires a response. I can say as a long-time spokesman for Steven that he has made it his career to direct actors, not political figures.”

Steven Reifenstahl, chief water carrier for the affirmative action president.
Wow.
First comment out of the gate and you call Spielberg, a founder of the Survivors of the Shoah Visual History Foundation, a Nazi.
Good way to make sure nobody takes your comments seriously. At all.
Go back to Drudge, please.
I think she’s comparing Spielberg to Riefenstahl not as a Nazi, but as a propagandist. Spielberg clearly has interests in protecting Israel and I don’t think his body of work disagrees. With such a goal, and a close relationship with Dems in congress, he could get some work done…and produce some films to help change the mind of the public. She called him the “Affirmative Action” president because a large portion of people voted for him based on his race and the historicity of such an event, even though he’s a warmongering cappy pig like the rest.
Affirmative action president? The hilarity and such an absurd titled is priceless.
That’s a little offensive. Hitler and the Nazis killed Jews, and Spielberg is a member of the tribe…
I’m surprised Caroline’s silly and racist comment got approved.
Would someone please explain the difference between actors and political figures?
actors are convincing
I don’t know where you’ve been for the last 4 decades, but Spielberg is NOT an actor. Just sayin’.
If an actor is a Republican (Reagan, Arnold, Fred Thompson) then as far as Fox News is concerned, actor = politician. And one who our deserves respect.
If an actor is a Democrat (Ben Affleck, George Clooney, Janeane Garofalo) then as as far as Fox News is concerned, actor = egomaniac. And one who should be mocked for using the platform the media has given them to bring attention to issues they care about.
Remember Fox News often leans on Chuck Norris and Jon Voight to give their opinions of domestic politics and nuclear arms treaties.
Reagan, Arnold, and Fred Thompson are/were democratically-elected politicians. What political offices have Garofalo, Clooney, and Affleck ever been elected to?
One believes the words he or she speaks.
The other’s elected.
Stick to making movies, please. You Steven will ruin his reputation if he hangs around with dirtbags like Reid and Pelosi. They are worse than the hollywood d-bags like Penn.
Great quote, Marvin.
Marv Levy is a lousy liar. What pathetic spin. Come on Marv just tell the truth don’t be ashamed that Steven is a liberal Democrat embrace it. You have to embrace it because it’s so obvious. Pelosi is death warmed over she’s a zombie and Steven is wasting his time on her. She can’t be re-branded she is who she is, an arrogant obnoxious limousine liberal elitist who thinks she’s queen of the country.
It sounds more like Steven Speilberg has hurt his own brand by linking himself with Nancy Pelosi. For one thing this could give real firepower to some of the older conservative actors in town and for Speilberg to deny this is like Goebbels denying he knew hitler. No matter to link himself with someone who is really unpopular it’s his brand that he’s hurting.
One more thing: no matter how hard the far leftie democrats try to rebrand themselves the public will always figure them out. Why not be upfront about it? Instead of playing poor covert games with the public?
Again with the comparisons of a Jewish guy who made a film about the Holocaust to Hitler. Chuck, you think you could hold off on comparing jews to Nazis–at least until they kill anybody? It’s weird and more than a little offensive.
what else would you expect his flak to say? how about a boycott of every steven spielberg production and directed film until obama is out of office. while we’re at it, let’s boycott all dreamworks animated movies as well. it’s okay if these hollywood moguls want to play around with politicians, but they shouldn’t expect that their visible involvement in politics will or should be ignored by those people who might disagree with them and might decide not to patronize their films/shows.
So, what you’re saying is that literally EVERY aspect of life has to line up exactly with your political beliefs. What a sad and pathetic nothing of a life you lead.
Yeah, right. It was Steven Spielberg who told Al Gore to bend Tipper over and kiss her full on, on the lips at the 2000 Democratic Convention. I was in the motorcade so I should know. If Mr. Spielberg tired old ass Dinosaurs back to life he sure can bring Nancy Pelosi back too. No mouth to mouth – that would scare the children.
Are modern politicians really just bad actors? Is every election a contest to find the best liar? That’s why Reagan was so awesome: he gave us a great economy and the Moses role going. Spielberg, spinner of tall tales, is just giving Princess Nancy a new set of lines.
@Caroline
Really? I don’t care if anyone has a “D” or “R” next to their name, but comparing Spielberg, director of Schindler’s List for godsakes, to a Nazi propagandist? Are you out of your damn mind? I’ve read some hateful sh*t on the comment boards on this site, but your one two punch of bigotry and racism takes the cake. I pray for the day you get your head out of your ass.
Couldn’t have said it better. Thank you.
I thank you, too.
One makes us believe the words that they say are truth, the other is Ronald Reagan…
Tabloid journalism at its finest, Mike. Love the picture of Steven with Nancy next to the headline – must definitely be true, huh?
One of the tip offs that a Drudgebot is posting on Deadline Hollywood is when they can’t even spell the names of the Nazis they’re trying to invoke a reflex when they find out someone might not be conservative. Considering that this board originally was for those who worked in the industry, at least spell the name of the Nazi filmmaker correctly.
I don’t care if Speilberg helps Pelosi and the Democrats. The Tea Party knows who Steven Speilberg is. Left winger always, propagandist sometimes. Very talented man all the same. I am pretty sure his help would be the same help anyone would give to her if she asked. The solution would be try and make her and her fellow democrats look like centrist. Please, by all means do this. I love watching liberals heads explode. You can put lipstick on a pig but it is still a pig.
I thought the masses were going to love all democraps once we read the healthcare bill. Maybe instead of hiring a movie director, Pelousi should hire a psychologist to figure out why we imbeciles aren’t buying their spin.
As a filmmaker, Steven should be judged by his directing and producing skills.
Whether he has advised anyone about their politics and/or how to best market them is solely his choice. And, he has every right to engage in this if he wishes.
So, the point is not whether this may or may not be true…the point is so what…Steven has free choice to associate himself with whatever groups or individuals he believes may have messages worth communicating.
This is still America…isn’t it?
Yes, he has every right. But he does not have the right to engage in this behavior without expecting/accepting a possible backlash against him for doing so. Free will does not mean a free ride — even for Spielberg.
Agreed.
Never suggested Steven or anyone else in the public eye is not subject to scrutiny. Nor does this mean that anyone in the public eye gets a free pass for their behavior whatever it may be.
Being in the public eye means just that…open for review by the public.
The reason Mr. Spielberg can deny claims is simple….He willingly offers help to democrats on a regular basis. He doesn’t have to be asked. And what better source than people who are so good at pretendin’ they’re somebody they’re not!
I’ve long been a conservative, and if Mr. Spielburg wants to dabble in politics he’s as free as any citizen. But as noted by others, if you join in the rush by one side to bash the other part of America that disagrees, don’t be shocked when they deeply resent you for it.
I have enjoyed his movies and believe he has America’s best enterests at heart..
The point is, only a small minority of America believes that Pelosi shares their concerns. He can help her, but she’ll only damage his reputation for being reasonable. It’s a rare American who thinks she ever was.
Everyone’s comments aside…like so many people everywhere who are not in the industry, they simply do watch movies to be entertained. To enjoy themselves, escape, have a good laugh.Which is why our industry exists in the first place, isn’t it?? So enough! Wether it’s Jon Voight, Spielberg, Clooney… the minute your political views become so important that an audience can’t watch your performance or your movie without knowing all your political baggage, you’ve not only hurt yourself career wise but so abused your privelege to simply entertain and respect a profession you were beyond fortunate to be apart of…Just keep your political, religious and sexual beliefs to yourself. That’s the class act.
Get off this site. This is supposed to be an Entertainment Industry trade blog. Freedom of speech included, I really don’t think those on this site want to hear your race base insane bullshit. Merry Christmas
I too am sick of all these fucking Tea Party freaks on a damn entertainment blog. Liberals, Jews and “Hollyweird” are supposed to be on the list of Things Republicans Hate so why the fuck are you here? The “Affirmative Action President” waxed the living SHIT out of your guy McCain in 2008, as well as crushing Hillary for the nomination. He raised more dough than any candidate in history and won FAIR AND SQUARE. So get off it.
It’s Xmas Eve but I wish I could shoot me a Teabagger. This country would be a wayyyyy better place.
Merry Christmas.
This makes my head hurt.. Who cares what Steven Spielberg does? Is it really going to make that much difference? Drop the negative political B.S. for one day “for cry in the dark!”, its the holidays..
