EXCLUSIVE: I’m told that “everybody’s interested” in a new pitch that just went out to Hollywood studios for Jay Roach to direct Zach Galifianakis and Will Ferrell in a political comedy about 2 candidates timed to 2012′s U.S. presidential election. (To make it more realistic, one of those candidates should be a woman since Sarah Palin or Hillary Clinton could be running…) Remember that Roach has experience in this genre; he replaced Sydney Pollack as the director of HBO’s 2008 Emmy-winning dramedy Recount about the 2000 Bush vs Gore election.

Certainly to a be a fair and balanced film. yeah right.
…tentatively titled “If a Tree Falls in the Forest: How to Guarantee an Empty Theater”
Good God, can you imagine the budget on such a project? Will no doubt be totally over-inflated to cover these boys & they’re massive upfronts and absurd backend deals.
I know I’m in the minority but I don’t find politics funny at all.
Hillary Clinton could be running? For what?
Nikki,
You are one of the absolute best film bloggers out there, but I think it has to be pointed out there is no chance that HIlary Clinton will be running in 2012. Zero.
This movie sounds interesting. Zach as a politician? I’ll be happy to have him in major comedy role where people are not expected to laugh at his weight/appearance.
And I’d only add that Taylor wildly overstates the chances of Clinton running, because there is absolutely NONE. As for Palin, well, she may be around through some primaries. I doubt it – not much money in actually running. But I’d sure like to see her lose… again.
She may not read, but even she can understand polling (“See, Sarah, it’s like ALL the voters are one whole dollar, and only a dime and some pennies want to actually VOTE for you…”)
This is one where Taylor and I will be telling Nikki Finke, “TOLDJA!”
Not to make this political, but…that’s the subject here, for once… Re: the suggestion of H. Clinton running? I don’t get it. Are people seriously thinking that Obama won’t run as the incumbent/Dem. candidate…? Hilary wouldn’t run as an Independent, would she?
It’s a shame that the director bringing together those two comedic geniuses is Jay Roach. Damn damn damn.
“To make it more realistic, one of those candidates should be a woman since Sarah Palin or Hillary Clinton could be running…”
Oh, Nikki, ever the feminist…your Wellsley College roots are showing.
Unfortunately, Galifinakis talent is based SOLEY on the fact he’s fat…nothing more!. john belushi he’s not,SOOOO overrated
I’m sick of all 3 of them, I wish they would go away. All 3 of them are over rated.
anyone know whose the writer?
Umm…don’t think Clinton “could be running” since there is already a demoncratic president in office who will seek re-election
This can only work if Galifinakis is the campaign manager. I don’t see how he can play a presidential candidate. Ferrell will inevitably do his George Bush impression or a variation of it and we’ve already seen that on Saturday Night Live and on Broadway that was great Will’s one man show after Bush left office I saw it on HBO it was brilliant should have won a Tony award. This sounds like it should be a ten minute spoof on Funny or Die.
Zach and Will? Jay Roach? Taking the piss out of smear politics and negative campaigning? Sounds funny. And it’s about time somebody did that, other than The Daily Show and SNL. I’m in.
Let’s be clear however, RECOUNT was not a comedy but a tragedy.
