EXCLUSIVE: Beyond the Jay Roach-directed political comedy pitch that has Will Ferrell and Zach Galifianakis attached, studios have a hot spec script to think about this weekend. CAA is out with The Boondoggle, a comedy that has been rewritten by Tom Lennon and Rob Riggle, with the duo starring as two guys who attend a boondoggle business trip, with everything imaginable going awry. Christopher Brian Halvorson wrote the first draft. Joe Roth is producing and Halverson’s manager, Barrett Stuart, will also be a producer.
Lennon usually writes with Ben Garant, with that duo responsible for the Night at the Museum and Reno 911! As an actor, he just completed roles in the upcoming comedies Bad Teacher, A Very Harold & Kumar Christmas and Cedar Rapids. Lennon and Garant are separately writing together the series creation Alabama for FX. Riggle, who started as a Daily Show correspondent, has risen through the ranks in comedies like The Other Guys, The Hangover, and Step Brothers. Deadline will keep you posted on the deal.

These two are a really funny combination. They have made me laugh in eveything they are in
love these guys!
Wow-this sounds like a great road movie-in the vein of Hope/Crosby,
DeNiro/Grodin or maybe Thelma and Louise. But the truth of the matter with Joe Roth Producing it must be real-like in The Real McCoy. The two guys drive to LA from “Backwoods County, Tenn.
They find the Travel Lodge on Sepulveda Blvd near Sony Studios.
They change from overalls to business casual, get a drive on to the lot, and fleece the bejesus out the Executives for 600 million dollar to create a new end all be all for entertainment-Backwoods meet Revolution…CUT TO THE MISTAKE-the boys from
Backwoods didnt take the money and run-they started making shitty movies based on lousy scripts..and blew through the money faster than faster than a stripper slides down the pole. Sp Joe you outta fit nicely in that producer chair-you have made this movie before.
And your partner in crime Todd Garner-
OPENING THIS FRIDAY
Boys “attend a boondoggle business trip” and die
Wow, sounds like somebody had a bad experience working with the boys over at revolution. Oh Wait, everyone who worked with Roth and garner had a bad experience. Who would have guessed working with two egomaniac liars would be so unpleasant.
Lennon is gold. Riggle is… the oposite of gold.
In other news: “Lennon and Garant are separately writing together the series creation Alabama for FX.” Wha?
Rob is top five mediocre. It’s another one of those guys in arguably the most mediocre times in entertainment history. Where hype=great and bag=good and suck=okay.
My god. What is happening? BUT, Tom is funny. He should have been a breakout star years ago and may have missed the boat. He seems to have fallen between the cracks on all levels. Probably number four on most representatives lists. Instead of being number one and being pushed pushed pushed. He is good stuff. Hot stuff. Cool stuff. TL is the man! David Wain, not so. Another bland. TL, yes! Rob, not so. Suckaroo. TL, yes. This cat could have been a Susan Sarandon level mega-star. Although he looks like he played it cool, he actually played it safe. Hanging too close to mediocre. So I will leave it at that. Oh yeah, handsome too.
Rob, lord what the hell is going on? Not funny. Has never been funny. A million dudes can do what he does and do so every night in downtown NYC.
Chow chow.
Rob Riggle is hilarious. Sure he plays the same loudmouth jackass most of the time, but he’s damn good at that role. Along with Will Ferrell, hes one of the few comedy actors who can do the “crazy yelling guy” schtick and it’s always funny. I would have to guess, most of the people hating on Riggle probably don’t like Will Ferrell either. Their comedy isn’t for everyone, but they always make me laugh.
I’ve always thought Lorne Michaels made a huge mistake by dumping Rob Riggle after one season. But by the Daily Show picking him up immediately after, it looks like he’s taken off ever since.
I, too, thought Riggle leaving SNL was a mistake.
The script might be great, but I think the obvious problem here is that Riggle’s actual life is so interesting it’s hard to figure out why he messes with regular fiction. Couldn’t someone sit down with him and help him figure out how to write about his experiences at Ground Zero, or in Afghanistan?
