Here’s an exclusive first look at the extended teaser for Off the Map, ABC’s new medical hour from Shonda Rhimes and Jenna Bans that’s set to premiere on January 12. The drama revolves around a group of doctors working at a medical clinic in the South American jungle and stars Martin Henderson (The Ring), Caroline Dhavernas (Wonderfalls), Jason George (Grey’s Anatomy), Zach Gilford (Friday Night Lights), Rachelle Lefevre (What About Brian), and Mamie Gummer (The Good Wife). Betsy Beers also serves as an executive producer. Michael Ausiello is contributing to Deadline.com as he preps for the launch of TVLine.com, a new TV-centric website from MMC.

Meh. Reminds me of a show from the 90′s called Going to Extremes.
Funny, kinda reminds me of two current shows, Private Practice and Grey’s Anatomy
I agree, it looks absolutely terrible. the problem is these aren’t believable doctors. it comes across more like a bunch of surfers who happen to be doing a little community service for the locals, in between big swells and coronas.
So ABC’s attempt at success if meshing two of their most popular shows together. This looks like Lost + Grey’s Anatomy.
Exactly what i thought – should have been called “Lost Anatomy”.

I actually did catch Mamie Gummer on the The Good Wife and she was in fact pretty great.
That part was a joke. The part about this show looking like a spoof, however…not a joke. Looks awful.
Thanks for clearing that up. I’m protective of all things Meryl. Mamie takes some unfair knocks and she’s a long way from Rumer Willis!

• Interesting enough premise, but it has been RHIMEZED to really just make it people getting it on with over the top medical problems.
• Has anyone seen the bus stop ads for this show? I tell you, after MY GENERATION and NO ORDINARY FAMILY, I thought someone at ABC marketing would realize that their off-air ads are ewwy… but I GUESS NOT.

I know a DIT for this show. They shoot in Hawaii which is pretty cool.
It looks like standard fare from ABC.
@Matthew Thomas, a lot of the same people who worked on Lost are working on this show so I would definitely think it would look stylistically the same.
Everybody thought the DIT job was the job of the future. It has proven to be otherwise on Fox shows. Fox fired all of the DITs.
The studios are finding out that digital production is not necessarily less expensive than using film.
When producers start cutting costs the DIT is the first jobs to go, even though they help quality wise. The best thing to do would be return to film but then the studios couldn’t screw over SAG
Love Zach Gilford. I like what I’ve seen the Streep kid in, but this looks like worst. show. ever.
“Out of hundreds of doctors, I picked you three”…. because you’re attractive and in your 20s. This does look pretty bad. Why can’t ABC make more shows like “Modern Family?”
For better or worse, the viewers who watch Grey’s will love this.

Let’s see… Shonda Rhimes has created the same show for ABC three times. What a bunch of crap.
A little bit of Lost and Grey’s Anatomy. And That’s why Miranda’s love affair disappeared from GA.
I saw this pilot. Grey’s viewers will eat this up and love it. It is fun and clever.
I for one am very excited about another Shonda show. I love Grey’s, Private Practice, and soon to be Off the Map

This is either a terrible show or a terrible promo.
I have no idea why people think it is even remotely related to “Lost”. I’ve actually seen this monstrosity and it is nothing like Private Practice (who did a great rape episode this year by the way).
It is however an exact repeat of the Grey’s Anatomy pilot, only done as a MadTV skit (no, it’s not even SNL unfunny) only acted as if all the characters are lobotomized.
If anyone thinks its bad, think again – its 10 times worse.
Grey’s Anatomy fans won’t watch this, its basically the same show only waaaaay more annoying.
Casting GA style:
Martin Henderson – mcDreamy, the Billy Ray version
Caroline Dhavernas – a more annoying Meredith (yes it’s possible)
Jason George – Most of the pilot O’mally, had a bit of Baily at the end
Zach Gilford – Karev
Rachelle Lefevre – Callie
Mamie Gummer – poor imitation of Christina
I think Shonda Rhimes shows take a lot of crap, as evidenced in this comment stream. But I think if you can look past the fact that all the doctors are hot (which is not the fault of Shonda but of society, if you have to call it a fault at all), and the fact that they’re not exactly realistic (what show is? Come on, son) then GA and PP are both of very high quality. Whether this show will be too remains to be seen, but from what I saw in that video, I’m willing to give it a try.
