AMC’s breakout hit The Walking Dead ended its 6-episode first-season run with another series high. More than 6 million viewers tuned in last night for the closer, eclipsing the previous series high of 5.6 million posted the previous Sunday. In 18-49, the finale averaged 4 million, also a new record and the highest ever for a basic cable drama series. With a series average of 3.5 million adults 18-49, The Walking Dead also has become the most watched drama series in basic cable history in the demo. The series, based on Robert Kirkman’s comics, has already been renewed for a second season.

great first season, although that grenade was a little too convenient.
My friend and I had the same discussion. Although, I figured that she couldn’t use the grenade in the underground lab since it was secured so tightly and she gave it to them only after she realized that nothing else would break the windows. And frankly, if the building blew up and they all died someone would have said…”well that’s stupid, why didn’t she use the grenade?”
I do love this show!
This show is easily one of those freak awesome shows that come around every once in awhile; like Lost, X-files etc that captures the darker half of the worlds imagination. Having read the comics I’m doubly grateful for what Darabont and co. have done here.
After he picked up the grenade in the second episode, it was all but forgotten. I was wondering where it went.
I can’t believe that they ordered only 13 episodes for season 2. Why not 20? And why can’t they return in May or June? I can’t believe that we now have to wait till 10 month for second season.
I would rather have 13 quality episodes than 20 watered down episodes. If you don’t want to wait then read the comic books like I do.
Congrats TWD team! Go Zombies!

Well, we have to wait 10 months because it’s a high quality show and it takes a long time to film.Unlike network shows, that film throughout the season, cable shows film every episode before the season even airs.
Anyway, this season was very impressive. The average ratings for AMC’s critically acclaimed series Breaking Bad and Mad Men were an average of 2 million per episode or less.Walking Dead never went below 3.5 million. The finale drew in 3 times as many viewers as the Breaking Bad finale and almost 3 times as many as Mad Men.That’s great.
The appeal for actors working in cable is to only do 13 (usually upped to 15 or 16 in success) – that way they are not tied up with cable salaries the entire year. Also, the cable companies only have so much dough for production and, in the case of this show, AMC is carrying both the license fee & the deficit.
Yeah, let me add my voice to the others saying this was a great 6 episodes and I’m looking forward to more. Next season can’t come fast enough. I wish they were able to do a one-shot TWD TV-Movie for release in the summer to tide us over til October……
Interesting how the black women wants to stay and get fried and they are like “ok”…but the blonde wants to stay and they all freak out with the one guy saying “then I’ll die with you…if you stay, I’ll stay”!
I thought at first the older sister had been infected, but believe now she is pregnant from the old guy who coerced her to leave. She was throwing up earlier in the episode. . . .
I don’t think she’s pregnant. They certainly haven’t intimated anything was going on between her and Dale, other than him being like a father.
I don’t know how far into a pregnancy a woman starts throwing up, but the zombie plague started less than 6 weeks ago, and they’ve known each other for an even shorter time.
Great idea, but….they were all drinking wine that night!! Me thinks she just had too much booze on top of her depression!
grenade effect didnt cut it for me
I agree…that window should of blown out,,bottom 1st…
I was laying right below it……..!!
the CDC melt down was a bit……….
But LOVED the show!! ready for next year!! when ever it comes out
I loved the first few episodes, but the series is beginning to lose me. It’s getting a little depressing, and in definite need of a major plot twist that spins the next season towards something other than sitting around, talking, and the occasional shoot-the-zombie and run moments. I get the feeling that budget constraints were pretty extreme this first season, and they spent most of that in the first episode. Lately, production values have been syfyesque and some of the night scenes have looked lit by a lantern.
It’s getting a little depressing? That’s the whole point of the series. It’s depressing. They are the walking dead. There is no hope.
I’ve been reading the comic for 7 years and it’s been depressing all the way through. If you’re getting turned off by these 6 episodes, you should probably stop now, because it only gets bleaker from this point on.This first season was a barrel of laughs compared to what’s coming up.
Here’s a vague spoiler.Don’t know if the series will follow the comic, but 4 of the current characters are no longer alive in the comics. You figure out which ones they are. It’s not going to be a happy ride.
you want plot twist some of u must not have watched the last episode to well…what did the doc tell rick…hmmm and if u want more go read the comic…like they say you cant judge a book by its cover this is just a demo…its really just a feeler that they put out to see if the public is going to like the show..oh and with 6million views for the season finale i can say that the shows syfyesque look is going to go away since AMC knows that this is what the public wants…i cant wait for season 2 its gana be crazy…cant wait for them to introduce michonne
Last episode sucked nuticles.
The first four episode of The Walking Dead were awesome the fifth and sixth episode SUCKED!
It looks like the walking dead is the new true blood…i didnt watch it at all this season but look forward to catching all the episodes on demand..
Wow, the last 2 episodes blew the first couple out of the water. And yeah, survival is sort of the overall point. That’s the main motivation of a ZOMBIE APOCALYPSE.
The grenade, like someone else said, was earlier in the season and then they just left it alone – like good shows do. Too-convenient is when “Boardwalk Empire” has the religious prohibition agent go after bootleggers only to find a baptism service in the middle of the woods. TWD is better than that.
Only AMC could bring such an amazing show to life! Can’t wait to see where the series goes, what a bloody good journey to be on! GO AMC GO!
Would love to see a short film about bicycle girl and what lead her to those conditions, every episode I thought about her and compared all of the other zombies to her.
We want more bicycle girl!!!
I’m guessing she was riding her bike, got attacked, and eaten alive. What was left of her came back as an immobile zombie. Her appearance and conclusion were powerful moments in the first episode though.
This series is totally awesome. It freaks me out. My son and i enjoyed watching it everytime.
I can’t wait for Season 2. Hope its really soon.
I also really love this show. My only complaint is that I am sad that they killed off the female character in the labas I thought she was an interesting character. The redeeming part of the death is that she died on her own terms.
I do have one plea for Frank Darabont is that the story is interesting with multi-dimensional characters (reminiscent of THE STAND.) However, please have an ending in mind so the series doesn’t drone on and on and on. My friend stated that he thought it would be good for two more seasons and then they should put a cork in it.
your friends an idiot. theyre up to issue 80 in the book and AMC has already said that they want to 10 seasons at least.
The grenade effect didn’t bother me, the building explosion did though. Definitely Syfy effects. More money to next season please.
I think Nick Cave should do the music for this show, it’s a perfect fit for him.
Such a great show. Kirkman’s book is good, but it is depressing as hell. I stopped reading it after the fourth volume – I just couldn’t take it. Plus, Rick in the comic solves almost all his problems by pointing a gun at those who disagree with him. TV Rick is more cerebral and does offer more hope then his funny book counterpart.
Darabont has injected more life into the story and it’s been an amazing ride. And I agree with the majority of posters – I’d rather wait 10 months for 13 high quailty shows then get crap churned out every three months.
I think what the Doc told Rick is that his wife is preggers. Remember, everyone had to submit to a blood test.
This show started off good, but something really needs to happen to keep me interested.
