UPDATE: I’m told this was a “planned, choreographed, rehearsed” stunt sequence, and that the car crashing into the truck was “entirely accidental” and not part of the stunt. The doctors have Scott McLean in an induced coma to aid in his recovery and that the info received by the studio so far on his status indicates he will recover from the injury. No actors were on set at the time of the accident.
Previous: Warner Bros has stated: ”There was an accident involving a truck and a car on the second unit set of The Hangover Part II near Bangkok, Thailand, at approximately 3:00 AM on Friday, December 17 (Bangkok time). A stuntman was injured during the filming of this sequence. The truck and car were both driven by stunt drivers. An ambulance immediately took the injured stuntman to the local hospital, and he has since been transported to a hospital in Bangkok, where advanced care is being provided. We are awaiting further details concerning his condition.” Australian newspapers have identified him as Queensland-raised Scott McLean, who in 2007 described himself as close to Australia’s top 10 stunt drivers and is now reported to be in a coma. Details are sketchy, but reports suggest that two cars travelling at high speed crashed into each other in Bangkok as part of the stunt.
In another stunt gone wrong earlier this year, Paramount was slapped with a lawsuit in October on behalf of 24-year-old Gabriela Cedillo, the extra on the Transformers 3 set who is permanently disfigured and disabled. The lawsuit alleges negligence that resulted in brain damage. She was seriously hurt during one of the action shots on location in Hammond, Indiana, for the upcoming Michael Bay threequel.

This is awful. I hope he recovers.
Why did they have a dangerous stunt in this movie? Wasn’t necessary. Why film it in Thailand? A complete waste of money. Serves them right for not going back to Vegas the sequel could have started right where the first movie ended just send them back to Vegas for more idiotic shenanigans. This is what happens when nobody knows what to do for a sequel. Hey let’s send them to Bangkok you know because that’s such a funny name for a city.
“Serves them right”
wow someone’s butthurt from a simple location change.
Way to sound really ignorant…
Anyone who’s been to Bangkok and partied there knows it’s the perfect place to go after Vegas. And anyone who’s worked in Bangkok on a film knows that it’s a perfectly nice, safe place to film. Freak accidents can happen anywhere. Don’t play the ignorant American and assume that just because it’s a third world country that it’s unsafe to film in.
Time is better spent just wishing that the man recovers.
what an idiotic comment. let the filmmakers decide how to make their movies. if you want to make hangover 2 in vegas, then make it. and accidents happen doing stunts. if they didn’t then the main actors would do them. and stuntmen know that their jobs are dangerous.
My prayers are with this stuntman and his family. Hope he does recover. And thank you for the update on Ms. Cedillo’s case, Nikki. I had wondered what happened to her. That is awful that she suffered permanent brain damage. No amount of financial recompense will ameliorate what she and her family will have to go through.
Meanwhile, Mike Bay and Co. keeps marching blissfully on, crafting ‘celluloid junk food’ for the masses, filling coffers with mucho coin, cementing Bay’s status as one of Hollywood’s pre-eminent financially successful, um, “artists” who can make stuff blow up and all.

“Why did they have a dangerous stunt in this movie? Wasn’t necessary. Why film it in Thailand?”
Why make movies at all?? Right? You seem to know so much about filmmaking maybe you should give it a whirl… How the fuck do you even know it was a dangerous stunt. Accidents happen on the 405 and that’s not particulary dangerous? How about a little sympathy for the family and the crew (who were probably close to the stuntman as well?!)
Or even better, how about not commenting on something you clearly know nothing about. Save everyone the pain and aggravation.
I had a friend endure a traumatic brain injury and a coma was induced for her as well. After a long recovery, she has succeeded in recapturing her life. My thoughts and prayers are with Scott and it is my sincere hope that he will recover as well.
Why did this go under the radar for 2 weeks?! Was Warner Bros hoping the news of this accident wouldn’t come out in fear of bad PR for the stupid sequel?? How pathetic.
Perhaps it was because the stunt mans family and friends wanted idiots like you to mind their own business. It has nothing to do with PR. Get your facts straight. What would you benefit from knowing all these private details? Consider the people who are going through this – including family, friends and work colleagues.
Boys and their toys(penis).
You can only hope Scott recovers and is receiving every bit of the best medical attention Warner Brothers insurance can afford.
Directors and actors choose locations just like anyone else…who wouldnt want to go to Thailand and screw thier brains out with both your cast, crew and a sex market tailored for a hollywood film crew. It’s the whole reason most of these guys got into film in the first place…Hopefully a premium is also placed on safety, so that in addition to fucking every Thai prostitute and cast memeber and extra, the whole crew can come home safe.
Your tax subsidies hard at work, helping these impoverished filmmakers get their movies made.
Are you a 20th Century Fox exec? Just wondering because your creative notes are as uninformed and idiotic as what Fox execs vomit out every day. Thank goodness you aren’t affiliated with this project.
If you don’t work at Fox, you should apply for a job there…they’re looking for someone to oversee A-Team 2.
>”Serves them right for not going back to Vegas”< Officially the most insane comment ever.
Serves them right??? So someone ‘deserves’ to be in a coma for going to work? You are a very cruel man. Why would you make such a horrible comment like that? How about wishing Scott a full recovery? That might be something nice for you to do.
Sometimes you gotta take chances during filming. I could fall off my recliner tonight and die, but I’m not going to avoid sitting in the recliner. Hangover is a great franchise and I hope this incident does nothing to tarnish the brand. Hopefully the stunt man’s family will speak out and absolve the filmmakers of any responsibility, because it’s clear that this was an act of God.
Wishing the best for Scott and a speedy recovery!
