Getting promoted from assistant to deal maker is itself an unforgettable day in the life of an assistant. The partners at Principato-Young ratcheted up the grandeur last Friday for newly minted managers Pete Dealbert and Meghan Moeller. Principato partners Allen Fischer and Paul Young tell me they gathered the entire assistant staff into a conference room, ostensibly to discuss the important issue of new chairs for expansion to the ninth floor at their 9465 Wilshire Blvd headquarters. While they closed the blinds to view chair choices on a monitor, partner Brian Dobbins hung an 18-foot banner off the roof of the building across the street. Filmmaker client Zack Pearlman rushed in to ask if they’d seen the commotion across the street. When the blinds were opened, Dealbert (1.5 years and Susan Solomon’s assistant) and Moeller (a 3.5 year vet and Peter Principato’s assistant) realized their coffee pouring days were over. The promotions swell the roster of Principato-Young managers to 16.

You know what? That is really cool. Not just the fact of promoting the assistants, but the way in which they did it and the effort that they put into it. Kudos to both the former assistants and also the partners who went the extra mile to make it a special experience.
I frickin’ dig this. What a beautiful gesture.
Don’t know them personally but, as a former assistant myself, congratulations to them! Hope they do well.
Awesome
This is the coolest promotion announcement I’ve ever seen on Deadline.
how hokie
You’re not going to score an assistant job on either one of their desks with that attitude…
What exactly is your problem, asshole? It’s not “hokie” or even “hokey.” It’s awesome. Toil away on a desk for years, and then get promoted unceremoniously with additional pay or praise. This is a good thing. Props to Peter, Paul and team for being stand-up guys.
Meghan is a rock star!
LOL Brilliant
Peter Dealbert is a great guy and totally deserves this. I deal with him on a very regular basis. Well done!
That. Is. Awesome.
Huge congrats to MM and PD, no one deserves it more.
WOWZA!
having dealt with both of these people over the years, these are well-deserved promotions! congrats!
This is amazing. Gives hope to us.
Congratulations!!!
Megan = super. if i was an actor. i’d love to be repped by her. she cares.
Attn: All you cheap, narcissistic, bad studio heads, department heads, etc.
Take notice of what these guys did. For the $50.00 that the banner cost Principato they will increase moral ten fold with their staff for doing this. That’s all it takes. For all you tightwads who gave your assistants ZERO for Christmas Bonuses….imagine what a $50.00 I tunes gift card would have done. Instead of your employess coming back from Christmas break demoralized, they at least have 50 reasons to want to come in.
It’s the small gestures people….I can tell you where my resume is being sent now. Principato and Young baby!
GOTTA AGREE. Everyone take note.
Completely agree. If you want people to WANT to work with you instead of just HAVE to work with you, then a little recognition and humanity goes a long way and you will get it back ten fold.
My manager is at Principato and I am very happy with him!!!
Way to make it special for those two.
That’s great– says great things about these two and the company. Love it.
Just when I thought the industry was jaded and indifferent… GREAT NEWS TO HEAR ON A MONDAY!!!
…what took Moeller so long?
Besides all the great comments, it just brought a smile to my face after reading this (and I don’t know them). It says so much about the company, that those guys were just as excited to promote them as they are to get the promotion. In “jaded” Hollywood, it’s so great to read about the nice ones. Assistant’s jobs aren’t easy, congrats.
I WANT TO WORK THERE!
This is good news. Don’t know the two people personally, but it sure was classy and sends the right message. People should be treated like people. Recognition and special attention goes a long way not just for the direct recipients but for everyone in the industry.
AMAZING. This is HOW you do it!
you know what i love? People taking care of their own. Only at agencies and management/production companies does this happen. Probably studios also. But on the creative side, someone can toil for 10, 20 even 50 or more years never moving up. Never making more money. As a matter of fact, making less or even NO money in some cases just to follow their passion and bliss. Never getting promoted to a higher level. Too bad the creatives don’t take care of their own…
Just saying….
