Adrien Brody, who in November got a federal judge to block the release of the Dario Argento-directed thriller Giallo after the court found he was owed $640,000, has reached a settlement with the film’s backers. Three Seven Entertainment, Giallo Productions and Hannibal Pictures can now see the film get a DVD release from its U.S. distributor, Maya Entertainment.
Brody claimed he’d been lied to and tried to block the U.S. distribution sale, but instead effectively froze the release in place. The rhetoric is over, and both sides issued conciliatory statements.
In his statement, Hannibal’s Richard Riondo Del Castro said: “I am glad to put this behind us and move forward with Adrien on the release of the film.” He called Brody “not only the star of the film, but a creative guiding force and a faithful production partner.”
Said Brody: “I very much enjoyed the process of making Giallo, and am happy that things have been resolved and that people can now enjoy seeing the film.” Brody plays an FBI agent hunting a serial killer in Italy, and objected to his face being used on the DVD release and the film was stuck in limbo until he was paid.

Good. If only every unpaid actor had the resources to win this type of battle.
!!!
Bravo Mr. Brody.
I implore any film fan to watch this film Giallo when it’s released.
It is so woefully bad, it’s brilliant. I saw it at London’s Frightfest and the audience was in stitches of laughter. Roaring – the laughter any comedy production would pay gold for.
I suspect money has nothing to do with it. I feel it’s far more likely to be an effort to bury quite possibly some of the most wooden acting you will ever see. And the worst prosthetics.
It is a joy. Watch. Watch. Watch
I was at the same screening – saw totally different reaction – this is a business feature why would you use this place to slam the film, obvious you have some personal bias with the film – ie you’re a friend of Alan Jones.
worst.movie.ever.
Hope he enjoys that money, becuase he sold his acting soul for it.
I’m glad to hear that Adrian Brody won his case and finally got paid so that GIALLO can now be released and Dario Argento and Brody can both move forward to their next upcoming projects.
This movie was doomed before it was even shot, with all the recasting that had to be done (Vincent Gallo quitting, Asia Argento’s pregnancy, Ray Liotta bowing out, etc.).
Brody is the best thing about the finished product, but one almost has to pretend it is camp to find any enjoyment out of it.
Let’s hope Argento finally makes a proper comeback with his upcoming Dracula 3D (assuming financing is still there).
Argento hasn’t made a good film in decades. He’s one of a few directors who have managed to completely fall from grace at this point. If he can’t even direct a mediocre-level standard film with a capable actor, I struggle to see how he’s going to successfully tackle a 3D film.
Hopefully, with a larger budget and guidance from producers he’ll be able to pull it off. I think the problem is that he’s always had free reign in most cases and has no real idea how to successfully exploit resources today.
C’mon! It wasn’t that awful! Really liked the hammer to the head!
Anyway, being a HUGE fan of A.B., I’ll bet he took this job merely for the opportunity to work with Argento, spend some time in Italy with Elsa Pataky (his then girlfriend) or simply for the cash–all of the above? Did anyone recognize him as Giallo? (He played 2 parts-the main reason for the lawsuit.) I recognized A.B. from the killer’s long, artistic pianist fingers!
