This is why I love Hollywood. Today,
This is why I love Hollywood. Today, White House press secretary Robert Gibbs was asked in an interview with Gayle King what advice he would give to Charlie Sheen’s public relations people. Gibbs said, “If I was the press secretary to Charlie Sheen, I would resign.” So I emailed Charlie’s loyal and longtime publicist Stan Rosenfield if he had a rejoinder to Gibbs, who recently announced he’s leaving his White House gig. “Stay in politics, Bob,” Stan emailed me. “Writing comedy doesn’t pay what it used to.”

What a very clever enabler he is.
Stan Rosenfield is a thoughtful, ethical and effective professional, regardless of whom he represents. Right now he’s standing by a client in trouble. I’d expect no less from him.
Don let’s be honest here. Stan has no ethics. He gets paid to lie for his clients every day it’s his primary job to spin the truth. Gibbs also lies at times they all do but Rosenfield occupies the lowest circle of hell along with every other showbiz publicist. How many blatant lies did Stan tell in just the last two days about what really happened to Charlie? Too many to keep track of. Even Stan can’t keep his story straight it kept changing every couple of hours.
couldn’t have said it better…
Oh PULEEZE!. Stan is a professional, and one of the best at what he does. It’s pathetic to here these negative comments. Agents don’t lie? producers don’t lie? Since when was Hollywood so righteous, high and mighty? If I was as “colorful” as Sheen, there is no other person that I would want to represent me. Get over it.
At least Stan has a sense of humor. I don’t envy him having to deal with the Charlie Sheen BS. I hope Charlie pays him well because there is not enough money in the world to put up with that craziness.
A better response would have been to say: “Charlie Sheen has created more jobs during his eight years on Two and 1/2 Men than Barack Obama has created in the whole damn country.”
Right, because being an actor on a sitcom is every bit as hard as being the President of the United States after a moron like George Bush has tossed the country off a cliff.
Amen. Furthermore, it’s absolutely ridiculous to say an actor on a sit-com, no matter how successful the show, has created any jobs. He’s done no such thing. He’s done his job, which turned into a gravy train. I suppose you could say he’s helped preserve some jobs, by choosing to continue (for 2 mil or so per ep?). This comment feels like a kind of of inappropriate over-gratitude. The kind that could help an out of control addict believe he’s doing charitable work by telling jokes on tv.
I think you mean the Democratic controlled congress tossed the country over a cliff with its Fannie and Freddie affordable housing loans mandates. Thanks Barney Frank! And where is that 7% unemployment Obama promised us we’d have by now with the trillion dollars of stimulus he borrowed from my kids and their kids to pass around to his union cronies and enablers.
No, don’t get it twisted… Get it REALLY straight… GREED tossed the country off the cliff. Just because there was an affordable loan mandate did not mean that banks were meant to qualify people that were NOT qualified. It meant to loan to qualified people who were not being served by traditional conventional mortgages. It also didn’t mean for banks to make these derivative mortgage products with low teaser rates to qualify people KNOWING full well they couldn’t afford the mortgage when the rates adjusted.
GREED, pure and simple.
And btw, who deregulated the banking industry to the point they were able to create and sell these derivative products without oversight? Name begins with B and ends with a USH.
Come on stop blaming the Bush… I voted for the great one “O,” but he has turned out to be a big Zero. Sorry… Now can we get back to dissing charlie.
Glad to see Liberals have gotten over blaming everything including the rain in Spain and the rising price of rice in China on Bush. After all, it’s not like we have a new administration or anything. Um. Methinks you Liberals are secretly in love with Bush, as much as you keep continuing to think of the man years after he’s left office. Obsessive much?
Touche!
Few people in the world are better at what they do than Stan. Gibbs isn’t one of them.
yes – lying as a profession is a difficult one
Maybe writing comedy doesn’t pay what it used to. But performing it (or what passes for it) sure does. No matter how f*#?ked up you are.
As a child, my father instilled in me a simple philosophy; to never speak beyond my rank… because the reality of life is, whatever your position or rank, their is always someone above you, who will use your comment to publicly slam you and don’t ever stick your finger in the hornet nest. Unfortunately most people in Hollywood, do exactly that. They have an urge to comment about everything and always have a come back, when it would serve them best to remain silent. Which bring us to your Gibbs vs Rosenfield commentary. First: Gibbs should have never answered that reporter, since the question dose not pertain to the White House. But now that he did: Rosenfield = a Hollywood publicist, should have not commented back, since his insult would be considered an insult against the White House and the President, since Gibbs represents them at the time the comment was made.
I think your father was wrong. Way wrong… Rosenfield has every right to respond to the Glib Gibbs. Who, BTW says we can’t insults the president or the white house… they work for us, No? I suppose the Egyptians should not be exercising their right to change their country (may be a bad thing in the end).
I both agree and disagree with you. One should neither speak above nor outside of one’s rank and position. Gibbs is press secretary for the Administration. That public position in no way encompasses commenting on the PRIVATE lives of American citizens, be they in the limelight or not. His comment was as inappropriate as were Obama’s comments re: Jessica Simpson’s weight or Michael Vick’s hiring. This White House seems far more concerned with celebs and pop culture than with national governance.
I disagree with you re: Rosenfield’s retort. He had EVERY right (and responsibility) to defend his client when he was attacked. In this instance, he did so with more grace and humor that Gibbs merited. If he really wanted to sting, he could have noted that although Gibbs is the highest ranking “journalist” in the nation, he has not yet mastered elementary grammar. It is “If I WERE the press secretary,” not “If I WAS.” It is the subjunctive mood and therefore “were” is correct, as most fourth graders know. Too bad Obama’s press secretary isn’t as bright as the average nine-year-old.
Gibbs is right. Rosenfield is more interested in taking the blood money from his screwed up clients when he oughta tell them to find another publicist. Sheen and Grammer are both messed up and shouldn’t be coddled like they are. Just say no, Stan.
With the exception of Sheen, Stan is brilliant at staying away from the Hollywood headcases. Just ask George.
Okay – now you’re boring me!
Who gives a damn about this overpriveledged idiot who has squandered
his talent and is now destroying his own health or anything his reps have to say? Pathetic!
Oh come on Stan is a genius at what he does here’s what he said today: “Charlie Sheen has voluntarily entered an undisclosed rehabilitation center. He is most grateful to all who have expressed their concern. Mr. Sheen asks that his privacy be respected at this time and that no additional information will be provided.”
Now we must all obey Stan and give Charlie the privacy that he deserves. No more making fun of him on the interweb it’s bad form. Let’s leave the poor guy alone so he can get better.
Yeah, wow….that generic, by-the-book, I’ve-heard-it-a-million-times comment really shows what a genius the man is. Thanks for sharing it (again) with us.
Because coming up with “please respect the privacy” coming out of a publicist’s mouth 1. Is Such a creative use of talent and 2. isn’t the biggest fib in the world.
Can’t remember who said it but it’s never been more true about this Hollywood you love: A small town is a vast hell.
Gibbs is leaving his post at the White House, the only people who will miss that dope are the talkshow hosts who make fun of that lying dimwit. Atleast Sheen & Company make people money, since that jugeared douchebag took office unemploment has gone up to 9.4% after he said it whouldn’t go over 8% after they passed the stimulus (pork for Democrats) package.
Get well soon Chuck, alot of people are pulling a depending on you.
I agree that a publicist’s job is to lie, hide and make excuses for their clients or when all else fails, plant stories, then deny them. Charlie Sheen has serious issues that have been denied by his publicist, just in the past 12 hours. I did not realize you go to rehab for a hiatal hernia or was that a mistake. He should not have been making up lies and he should have tried to get Sheen the help he needed long before this meltdown.
Look, Charlie is a former neighbor and a guy with a big problem. I hope he gets the help he needs. Too much shadenfreude in the world. Most of us are or will be tested some way or another in our lifetime. How we deal with adversity ultimately says a lot about who we are and being a well paid actor doesn’t guarantee happiness.
Well said… A little empathy is needed not so much shadenfreude…
Ya, I am patiently waiting to deal with the adversity of 2Mil per episode.
shouldn’t charlie sheen be in jail for possession of a suitcase full of cocaine?
gee diane, i wonder if that actually happened… a briefcase full of blow…? c’mon people.
I don’t know why Charlie pays the guy. As Jon Cryer pointed out so aptly recently, his co-stars can easily find out if they’re going to work or not by checking TMZ each morning. As far as creating jobs go, there are tow truck services on Mulholland, insurance companies specializing in Mercedes, and Mercedes dealers all over Los Angeles very happy that Charlie Sheen is in their lives.
Face it, it’s all your faults for watching that piece of crap he calls a “comedy show” for the last 10 years. Otherwise Charlie Sheen would have been left on the garbage bin of “Hasbeenville” where he belongs.
This is how fights escalate. One person has to say something obnoxious, another has to respond to the obnoxious comment, and then more back and forth, before you know it, a bar fight has broken out and fists go flying:) An opinion is only some person’s opinion, it doesn’t mean anything, you can always give a deaf ear to rude people, and the rude people learn to have manners, mind your own business and not tell people how to do their job or who they should work for. Gibbs is out of line to even voice his opinion , it’s none of his busines what Stan’s clients do with their lives. Gayle King is a moron to ask Gibbs the quetion, and Stan had to respond because it was public otherwise he would have ignored it! This whole thing is stupid! Ignore the idiot Gibbs’ opinion!
My Mother was an alcoholic and also addicted to perscription drugs.
Both of my sisters are also alcoholics addicted to perscription AND street drugs.
My brother is addicted to perscription painkillers and smokes pot 24/7. It’s always cocktail hour for my Dad.
Five out of six family members are full blown addicts.
I don’t drink. I don’t smoke. I don’t use perscription drugs. No pot.
Chocolate is my drug. My own personal jesus. And running. And reading.
I made a choice as a kid when I watched my drunken parents beat each other senseless physically and emotionally. I chose a different path. I could go on and on about the wake of despair ruin destruction.
I don’t care if Charlie Sheen is an actor or not. Tragic and sad. He is a lost and lonely man. I hope he gets the help he needs and saves his own life. It’s up to him. I hope he doesn’t end up like Belushi or countless others but the writing on the wall tells us he probably will.
He has a number of children. Do they cross his mind? Pointing fingers at some publicist who happens to be paid handsomely is just bloody ridiculous.
The run-off and spill from addicts is an epidemic. Charlie Sheen doesn’t have to be poster boy for this. Grow up, man. Man up. Clean up. Godspeed. Or not. All up to him.
Oops. Perscription should read prescription. Sorry. My hernia must be acting up again.
Stan is a nice, generous person who gives of his time to people and is thoroughly professional. Sorry for you people who leave all the insults here, first of all you don’t know him apparently and second, you must live a sad, pathetic life!
Stan is known by the lies he tells and the klutzy way he lies. Doesn’t matter if he donates money to charity and volunteers at a soup kitchen which I highly doubt. As for leading a sad pathetic life that describes Charlie perfectly. He has too much money which he never deserved and everything he’s done in his personal life the last ten years has been sad and pathetic. Stan is a putz he’s been exploiting Charlie the same way Marty Singer does. They don’t care about Charlie at all they only care about getting paid for doing Charlie’s dirty work. Both Stan and Marty are scumbags the proof is in what they do and say on Charlie’s pathetic and sad behalf.
Like a person in Charles Sheen’s camp says in private, “You should see the stuff we had to pay to keep out of the press.” Stan’s the man! Hands down he is the best in crisis PR there is.
