Chicago-based film critic Ignatiy Vishnevetsky has been named co-host on Roger Ebert’s new review show Ebert Presents At the Movies. The 24-year-old Russian-born Vishnevetsky replaces original co-host Elvis Mitchell and will give out thumbs-up and down alongside Associated Press’ Christy Lemire. Mitchell’s departure was announced last month when Ebert released the show’s premiere date, Jan. 21, dismissing speculation that move was due to lack of chemistry between Mitchell and Lemire. Vishnevetsky writes for the film website Mubi and contributes to the Chicago Reader. Ebert, who will appear on the show in a segment via a computer-generated voice, is executive producing the series, set to air on public TV stations, with his wife, Chaz Ebert.
TV Editor Nellie Andreeva - tip her here.

Nellie,
Elvis Mitchell lacked several things that make a critic a good critic. First off, any “filmmaker” he could befriend seemed to get a good review as if he were in awe. Second, the personality of a beached whale.
Siu Se.
madam, you got a bad sense of who elvis is..i think he is the best film critic working..as for your rude comment of the b—w— you must swim with sharks for you to call elvis such a name. the man knows film..you madam are just a namecalling piece of deadwood adrift at sea.
Go figure. A new TV critic show, and the first thing they do is fire “the brother” and replace him with a 24-year-old white guy who has been likened to an effeminate Simon Cowell.
Feel bad for Elvis. I am left wondering what the REAL story behind the story is. (C’mon Nellie! You are a solid reporter. Why don’t you get behind the lame “lack of chemistry” excuse?)
Lemire, for what is worth, is of average erudition/writing chops at best so I wonder why they kept her and why Elvis got the boot. Elvis can be am arrogant pain in the ass, but he’s still thoughtful and his writing is pretty exceptional.
Guess it helps these days to be a pretty white girl journalist (and speaking as a magazine editor, Lemire’s looks are rare among female print journalists for the Associated Press!) trying to make a name for herself in tv land.
NPR/PBS must have it out for black men. First, Juan Williams. Then Elvis. So much for these outlets being liberal and progressive.
His writing is exceptional? Have you talked to anyone at the New York Times where they had several people whose fultime job was to edit and rewrite him? When he turned things in late all the time? If Elvis Mitchell could fail upward any more times, he’d be Jeff Zucker.
two thumbs down: Google Chaz Ebert.
You’ll discover that she’s black, so I really doubt there’s any kind of racism here.
My guess is that he also had poor chemistry with others involved with the show.
Thank god he’s gone. He’s easily one of the worst reviewers in the biz. He was only on the show to boost the black demo.
How can you play the race card for a show executive produced by a man married to a black woman and has always strongly supported the African American filmmaker?! Things are not always Black and White. You are way off base here.
First off, stop the hating on Elvis Mitchell. He’s a brilliant critic, his reviews are smart and funny. He and Manohla Dargis are the best there is.
Ebert is out of his sad fat skull if he thinks anyone wants to watch him and his tired thumb. Ebert has always tried to be the voice of black people in his reviews–having a real African American co-host would upset that delusion of his. Witness when Elvis was a replacement critic on the show after Gene died. His comments were far more interesting than anything the burned out Ebert had to say.
Howard Stern called Ebert on this when he was on his show once(and Roger made a vaguely anti-semetic remark–look it up)
Rog, you’re not a sea captain, you don’t have to go down with the ship. Nobody cares what ya think anymore, you were supplanted by the internet and the day of a pompous fat guy passing final judgement with his thumb are long over. Produce a review show for Elvis, Yoiu know he;s a better writer.interviewer.
“Comments On Deadline Hollywood are monitored. So don’t go off topic, don’t impersonate anyone, don’t get your facts wrong, and don’t bore me.”
Smart @$$. Screw you.
