This just happened. The final details are being put on his contract. I hear Frank Chiocchi is going to head up Walt Disney Studio’s creative advertising overseeing the live action slate, reporting to marketing czarina M.T. Carney. This is a much bigger position and more strategic role for him,” a Universal source just said. “It’s a good thing for him.”
Editor-in-Chief Nikki Finke - tip her here.

Frank Chiocchi is a living genius. The man is an incredible manager and a talent to be reckoned with. He knows how to open a movies better than anyone. He’s humble and truly cares about one thing: the creative. He has no other agenda but to quote the man, “get butt’s in seats.” Congrats Disney–Uni’s marketing dept has some very large shoes to fill.
Damn! You post totally took the wind out of my sails!
I was gonna be the best asskisser, but you clearly have me beat!
That was an asskissing of epic, nay…historic proportions!
Well played, FC IS #1…well played.
Sounds like you’re his agent.
Good guy. A big hit for Universal and touch down for Disney.
Congratulations to Frank – a great person and a great creative. Well-deserved.
Chiocchi sounds like a fun name to say.
Huge talent. Great guy. Score for Disney!
How does this shake out the rest of creative over there?
Good luck to him!
Uni sure didn’t even lift a finger to keep him.
Disney’s marketing is just as bad as Uni’s so he should fit right in.
Disney’s marketing is just as bad as Uni’s so he should fit right in.
By “fit right in”, do you actually mean “replace MT Carney”?
Well, that didn’t take long, Magoo. You clearly have no idea what you’re talking about. But props to you for being the first in with the requisite snark on this thread.
Last I checked, EVERY UNIVERSAL FILM WAS FLOPPING. I’m not sure that Chiocchi is to blame, but I wouldn’t touch anyone coming out of that studio!
Great For Frank, Horrible for us.
It’s obvious to everyone here that they should have promoted Frank to “head” of creative and not Maria, as everyone in town can see…that has been a disaster.
The only HITS the studio has had are Maria’s movie’s. Frank’s are all bombs. Explain THAT.
Really ??? All hers….is Maria claiming credit for Despicable Me now. Poor Jackson, This will surely push him over the edge. his misery is obvious to everyone within an earshot.
Fast 4 was a bomb? Maria could’ve sold Robin Hood?
Frank is one of the true original absolute genius marketers this town has ever seen. Uni never appreciated the talent they had. Disney is embarking on new frontiers and Franks talent and charachter takes them to a whole new level of SPECTACULAR ! GO Disney ! Yay Chioc
So he’s David Singh’s boss? John Sabel’s boss? Both? Does the Pirates person and Dreamworks person report to him or to MT?
talented man
but you cant do that job without a strong marketing president
not sure disney has that
A great loss to Uni. Amazing creative mind and an even better person!
Living Genius? He’s a cool guy, but he works on just a few movies a year and tends to freak out if he’s got too much to do. Plus, why would Disney be excited to take someone from the worst marketing dept. in town?
Frank Chiocchi is the calmest, most creative creative in this town. He’s never “freaked out” about anything in his life. While everyone loses it he is indeed a very cool customer. Please. Check your facts.
Frank is the most talented creative in this town ! Uni was not derserving of the scope of greatness he brought to the table. i can’t think of a better person to take Disney on their next tncredinle ride. kudos Disney for a SPECTACULAR choice. Yay Chioc !
Frank is the real deal. THE best creative in this town. There is not a better more qualified person to lead the new dventures that Disney is about to embark upon. Kudos Disney for a SPECTACULAR choice. Yay Chioc !
Kudos Disney you could not have a more talented and creative individua assuming the helm. Frank is truly THE most talented individua in the business. His creative and charchter raises the bar. SPECTACULAR choice Disney ! Yay Chioc
As opposed to many previous posts in DHD concerning marketing folks, I would bet there will not be one negative comment posted here about Frank. Very talented and as an earlier poster noted, a humble guy and utterly disinterested in studio politics. All in all, someone you would want to work for or just hang out with.
I had the pleasure of working with Frank and the guy knows his stuff. There is no one more humble and more deserving of the job. He is one of the only Marketing execs who is EGO LESS. He truly cares about the creative and is human enough to know how to get it without having to be a jerk about it. He is a class act and Disney should be very proud and excited to bring on such a talent. Congrats Frank!!!
Universal has had a great run. With the string of hits at Universal, Disney can only hope to achieve the same success.
I’m confused. Isn’t Universal doing terribly? So why did Disney hire Chiocchi?
Frank has undermined Maria every chance he could get. Rather than support her during her promotion, he threw a fit and made the studio release a statement saying he didn’t report to her. If that isn’t STUDIO POLITICS at it’s finest, then I have no idea what is. I assure you Frank isn’t as humble and laid back as people think. Let’s see what happens when he REALLY has to work. Being Head of Creative is much more than just working on the movies that you want to. its about doing the best with what’s in front of you.
Frank may not be as humble as people are saying here (Who is?) but it’s an outright lie to say he “threw a fit” that made anyone, much less the studio, “release a statement.”
Maria’s promotion wasn’t a big enough concern to really register on his radar, so quit kidding yourself.
Wow! Did someone hire a street team to write comment after comment saying FC is the greatest genius of all time?
LOL!
His resume is littered with those he has stabbed in the back.
His “aw shucks, I’m so humble” veneer masks a ruthless, egotistical, dishonest, uncreative, self-loathing man and working with him ranks as one of the worst points in my career.
He should have pursued his original profession as an actor, since he has proven to be very good at it.
Good luck at Disney, Frank. You’ll need it since now you will actually have to work and the blame for not opening movies will fall on you where it belongs.
^^^ Bitter trailer house guy. Right, G?
John Sabel????????
Hahaha – Maria, please stop.
Wow “not a fan”. So sorry about what must have been a horrible experience. I’ve known Frank as both a vendor and a client, and he is nothing like he man you describe. He must be an even better actor than you say. Then again, maybe you’re just a cowardly asshole who likes to bash people anonymously.
I have known and worked with Frank for over 20 years. The thing that makes him the best Creative Director in this town, is his true creativity. He, unlike most executives, joined the studios after writing and producing for years and being the best at it. He gives great direction because he knows how to produce. He has amazing work ethic. And he is one of the most personable people I have ever known. Disney is very lucky and very smart to have Frank joining their team.
