UPDATE: Summit Entertainment insider is acknowledging that a studio DVD containing the Mel Gibson-Jodie Foster not-yet-released movie The Beaver is missing and appears to have been stolen from Mel Gibson’s mailbox. The LA Sheriff’s Department is investigating. The insider also is confirming the details TMZ first reported that the studio gave Mel the final cut of the movie on DVD, he screened it at his home, and at 10:45 AM put the DVD in his mailbox so a courier could pick it up and return it to Summit. The courier showed up at 2:30 PM Wednesday, and the DVD was missing from Mel’s mailbox. Few movies have received so much pre-release publicity as this one. Question is, will it translate into theater tickets?

Gibson should know that what he did is illegal. Only US Mail belongs in the mailbox. The DVD was probably picked up by a postal employee, and it’s now in the dead letter office. No one should return it to him. As a rare book dealer in 1996, I recovered a rare Shakespeare volume stolen from Mel Gibson [it was on a closet shelf along with a couple of Oscars in his empty CT home.] My reward on recovering the book and nabbing the thief was $25. How exciting!
It’s so ridiculous and pathetic how Deadline and some other sites try to “promote” Beaver as some real movie that will make money or try to portray it as some awards contender that was taken down because Mel Gibson is crazy…
If you will take out his actions and pretend that tape scandal never existed then what is Beaver movie? Well… It’s just some dull and pointless movie. With Mel Gibson, that old star that everyone forgot in it. That movie would die at the box-office, completely unnoticed by everyone. Like that movie with Harrison Ford Morning Glory. Because Mel Gibson career was over long before that scandal. He was that old star like Winona Ryder or Harrison Ford. They were big back in the days. Now they can’t open a movie.
And it’s a wonder to me how can someone even suggest that it was an Oscar contender but Gibson’s craziness ruined it’s chances… Please. When you see the trailer and all you can think afterwards is how bad Jodie Foster is in it then you know what it’s gonna be.
Mels awesome, hes done incredible movies in the past. hes human, and going through some garbage right now. The guy has some demons (who doesnt?) i mean, who’da thunk mel gibson was actually a MORTAL?
I have confidence he’s and intelligent enough person to get the help to deal with these issues in his life. He’s gotta ALOT of great movies in him in the years to come and i look forward to enjoying his work some more in the future.
Let’s see… he put the DVD in his mailbox at 10:45, the courier didn’t come by till 2:30. Wonder what time his mail normally comes??? Has anybody checked with the postman to see if it was picked up by mistake with the postman assuming it was outgoing mail????
I was beginning to think that no one was going to question the obvious. Good going Remmington!
I like Mel Gibson movies…if he makes it or stars in it, I’ll watch it. Besides its nice to have someone in hollywood who is not about kissing ass and playing nice..
Mel is the man!
We need more real men like him in this world.
Wonder when the movie will show up on the internet.
Hope Mr. Gibson is not hurt on ticket sales by these film thevies.
This is one way to get viewer interest in a questionably acceptable movie.
The letter carrier probably picked it up. If civilians want to play postman we take the letter, envelope or dvd out of the mailbox and then bring it back the next day postage due. Happens all the time with cpa’s, lawyers and real estate agents leaving stuff in mailboxes trying to avoid paying postage. If it has a return address on the dvd then it probably is on the way to the studio where they will have to pay postage to get it. Lost revenue comes in many colors and shapes.
Mel Gibson is God.
Thank you for checking in with us, Mel. Go back to your room now.
Why would anyone want to see a movie about Jason Beaver, unless it’s Kim Darby, who wants her hair back.
Mel was PROVOKED by that woman, she pressed every button she could, I am sure she did her share of THREATENING! I LOVE MEL, he is a brilliant actor, and seems everyone forgives those that abuse drugs, alcohol, and domestic violence, and most condone the rap lyrics that are out there that condone violence against women..SO give this man a break..There are 2 sides to every story.
Who are these people who are forgiving those who commit domestic violence? And the I was provoke excuse is something that wife beaters love to use, just like rapist, with the she was asking for it line, which is a weak way to excuse ones actions and place the blame on the victim. If Mel didn’t want to deal with Oskana, he could have remove himself from the situation, got child or joint child custody and move on with his life.
What’s frightening about this post is that you are “in love” with a person whose “private side” caught on tape shows he is a panting, foul-mouthed, arrogant, self-acknowledged domestic violence perpetrator. The “Mel Gibson” you are thinking as The Patriot, the heroic Mad Max, and brave William Wallace does not exist. Those are “roles”. None of those “Mel”s exist in real life. The real life Mel Gibson is a misogynistic, nasty bigot.
So,
Sounds like a lot of contempt because so many have their dog in Mel’s fight with the ADL, Media crucifiction in short. OK, he screwed up, even more than once, his ‘drinking problem’ is a sign of weakness and the foolishness of being an older fool for the young Russian gold digger will cost him dearly.
Yet, his movies are done well! The “Edge of Darkness” was excellent. I am grieved you dropped the ball Mr. Gibson, but we who live in glass houses shouldn’t throw stones. Best Wishes, JP
Maybe the movie was removed by his letter carrier. It is illegal to leave something in your mailbox for a courier to pick up. But you can put postage on it and your carrier will pick it up and put it in the mail stream. If there was postage on it and it was stolen, that’s a federal crime for the Postal Inspection Service to investigate. If there was no postage on it, that’s also a federal crime, but in that case Mel’s the criminal.
Well, I disagree. My local postal supervisor — very big post office — said it’s fine with him to leave Christmas presents in my mailbox for the delivery guy to pickup when he makes his rounds. I do it every year, leave the guy something for Christmas. No postage on it, either, no address on it, just the gift in the box saying “Merry Christmas”.
What you are describing is not the situation under consideration here. The question is, is it legal to put something in your mailbox to be picked up and delivered by some organization other than the Postal Service? And the answer is “No!”
I’ve met Mel. He’s a great guy. I’ll always see his films…
I hope the DVD is released online so the movie makes even less money than it otherwise would. They deserve to lose money on this stupid movie.
Someone has axe to grind…
Absolutely. Mel rocks.
I’m guessing the postman picked it up. There’s a good chance it’ll show up from USPS as a postage required delivery.
HEY folks, the USPS has couriers that pick up.
Funny how the Hollywood chosenites want to crucify Mel Gibson, but Roman Polanski gets a pass. . .
&*%$$$$$$ hypocrites.
Bingo!
Amen to that.
If you’re a famous Jewish director, you can drug and rape little girls and Hollywood says ” its ok, he’s so talented”
If you say anything negative about Jews, all you get back is “you’re so hateful and racist”.
Can’t argue with this one. And I’m Black!
PS: Plenty of peeps in flyover country got Mel’s back. “Edge of Darkness” made money. Don’t underestimate.
How did Edge of Darkness make money with a $80 million production budget and only a 80 million worldwide return? The answer is it didn’t make money.
Give this man a cigar! You are spot on!
Maybe the Christians should be so harsh on Sarah Silverman
Nah…best thing to do is just ignore that talent-less bimbo. The fewer the people who give her attention, the faster she’ll fade away.
Don’t people in Hollywood ever le….
Oh Jeez. Listen Mel putting a copy of it in his mailbox for a courier to pickup – can’t he call FedEx and have them pick it up at the door? Puhleeze, people, use the guys with the trucks and the barcode readers. It’s such a pussy thing to do.
All Mel has to do to prevent that kind of thing from happening is call his local FedEx office and say: “This is the Road Warrior. I have a package I want you to deliver, and I want you to come straight to my house to get it” and not rely on any flaky courier service … and not least of his MAILBOX.
Someone help me here. Isn’t Mel Gibson’s mailbox the most positively rifled-through and totally unprivate mailbox in the world?
Well, hopefully it will help his movie rank a little higher in its opening weekend. I’m sure it’ll be available as a torrent any day now, and that’s going to make releasing it moot.
There’s a moral lesson in here somewhere for Mel Gibson, the Thief, The Studio, and the United States Postal Service.
In fact, we should make a new movie about the four of them, starring Helen Mirren. We can get the Feral kid from Road Warrior to reprise his role singing soprano this time, and Helen Mirren can get naked on her way to the mailbox, and then we can have The Thief show up and it’ll be really high-concept art.
Nice…! There’s an Oscar script in there somewhere.
Still, tampering with the mail is a Federal Offense. So there’s still a possibility that someone could go to federal prison for pilfering this from his mailbox, even if they thought they were saving the rest of the world from it.
Gibson should work with the LAPD and then hire the Toecutter of Attorneys to help prosecute the scumdog millionare who did this.
Reports of suspicious-looking crooked-nosed garbage men around the house, speaking a middle eastern language and driving van with fake number plate.
“Give me the DVD!”
“GIVE ME BACK MY SON!”
