Fox has handed a pilot order to the Ethan Hawke-starring drama Exit Strategy. Antoine Fuqua, who directed Hawke in his Oscar nominated performance in Training Day, is on board to direct the pilot, from 20th Century Fox TV and Kurtzman and Orci’s 20th TV-based K.O. Paper Products. Exit Strategy, which is being written by David Guggenheim (Safe House), was originally set up at Fox in September with a put pilot commitment. After months of discussions, Hawke came on board in December to star and produce. He, in turn, invited Fuqua to direct the pilot. In addition to Training Day, Fuqua directed Hawke in Brooklyn’s Finest. Fuqua will also exec produce the pilot.
Described as a high octane procedural, Exit Strategy centers on a team of 5 experts associated with the CIA who are deployed when a CIA operation goes bad to extract the ones involved before it’s too late. Hawke will play the team leader, the architect of exit strategy who also empathizes with the people they extract and would rather die than let them get hurt. Each episode will tackle a different crisis in a different country. Exit Strategy is envisioned as a potential successor to Fox’s signature drama 24. Like 24, the action in Exit Strategy will also unfold in real-time. And like 24′s Kiefer Sutherland, Hawke would segue from the feature world to take on the lead in Exit Strategy, his first series. Kurtzman, Orci and KOPP’s Heather Kadin are executive producing the project, with Guggenheim co-executive producing. This is the second pilot order for Kurtzman and Orci this season. They’re also behind Fox’s Locke & Key.

Once again, another middle-aged white man selling his pilot. Joy.
That’s the second time you’ve posted about this. Post an email address here, and I’ll send you my pilot. I’m not middle-aged, I’m not white. You will see that from the top of page 1, my pilot blows yours and most everyone else’s out of the water. And it will sell. Why? Because my writing is that good.
Keep Human Target Fox. Get rid of Matt Miller. He Sabotage Human Target So People would instead invest their time in chuck.
Any idea if this is going Brian Stern (sp?) or not?
So basically it’s the story from Mission Impossible 3? Ripping off their buddy’s movie…interesting. NOT. While it’ll be great to see Hawke on tv, this show just screams cancellation. Too many big names wanting big paydays from the writer/producers to the star and director. This show will cost a fortune so unless it gets 15+ million viewers a week, if not more, it’ll be over within the first year. If it’s a hit then you’re talkin, but still.
Very excited for this!
great actor good director and this could be epic if done right. I am a sucker for these kinds of things…
Ewan Hawke used to be married to Guma Thurmann…
Now he’s going from movies to a two-bit tv on Fox! What a sad man… He’s trying to be the Nik Cage o’ tv! Being a tough-guy aktion man, then doing funny movies like “Leave Him in Idaho…” “Hazing Arizona” and my favorite “Leaving Lust Vegas”.
But poor Ewan Hawke ain’t da Nik Cage… of the movies!
He do sp*tty st*ff like Tr*ning D*ze…
Another 24? There already was a 24. CIA action TV is over. It’s even over in films. Hawke’s nuts. However, a romantic, instinctive, Luddite private eye with smart, sexy, high-techy sidekick would blow the roof off any network. (I said nothing about NBCUCOM.) The public is starved for such a show and Hawke can actually wear that role and even age into it as it gets renewed.
Pilot? What else? Attending swank parties at billionaire chateaus while investigating that evil banker/mortgage broker that forced the immigrant family out of their new home. Seems like the banker broke a few financial regs along the way AND whacked a colleague over in commercial loans who was about to expose him. All for the love of a lousy buck…make that a lousy million bucks. Well, you’re living in Obama’s America, now, buddy, and Det. Hawke & wife are making sure you get a nice, long time behind bars to think about the fact that in America, the little guy matters again.
Not gonna happen.
I hear the technical advisors are great and will enhance the show greatly…
