Fox has handed a pilot order to Little in Common, a single-camera comedy from Veronica Mars creator Rob Thomas. The project, produced by Warner Bros. TV, is about 3 families united through their kids’ little league sports. This is Fox’s second comedy pilot pickup this season. The network recently ordered a multicamera comedy, Sherry Bilsing-Graham and Ellen Kreamer’s I Hate My Teenage Daughter, also from WBTV. The pickup marks a return to broadcast TV for Thomas who most recently co-created and executive produced the Starz comedy Party Down. Little in Common is one of two comedy projects Thomas sold to the broadcast networks this development season. It is in second position to Temp, a comedy for NBC, which Thomas co-wrote with fellow Party Down co-creators John Enbom and Dan Etheridge. Both shows are produced by WBTV. Thomas is executive producing Little In Common with frequent collaborators Danielle Stokdyk, Jennifer Gwartz and Etheridge who all worked with him on UPN’s Veronica Mars, ABC’s Cupid and Starz’s Party Down.

Yeay, good news about Rob Thomas projects mean good news for TV!
I am still mourning the loss of Party Down so I love this news. If Rob Thomas can get Ken Marino to do anything in this show, I am in. Oh, how I long for Ron Donald.
This guy is genius. VM was one of the best written and cast shows on tv, well, ever. This show should rock!
Awesome. Rob and his team are great.
Dear Fox,
Thanks for giving this creative team a chance. Now please get out of their way and give this show some time to gain an audience.
P.S. Please allow Rob Thomas keep his soul. That is all. Thanks again!
Rob and Kevin Reilley is a great combination. I think at last Rob has found an executive as good as he is! Can’t wait.
Am a fan of Rob’s work. Still, wish this didn’t sound so much like a Modern Family clone.
Fox used to be the pioneer of out there concepts, but they’re playing it safe in comedy. Too safe, with sitcoms about families that you could find on any dial. Still, this is a talented man and he’ll hopefully find a fresh spin.
But I hear Fox is going to try and cast it in house and not use a real casting director. Good luck through the chaos, Rob!!
What a shame it will be to waste your brilliant pilot because of casting mistakes.
I am sure the concept is good but I have to laugh at the THREE different couples thing. Once Modern Family took off that’s all anyone wanted to hear. I could pitch a show about astronauts. And they would want three diferent capsules of people who have different takes on life. Ugh!
A single-camera comedy on FOX? I’m sure it will last. Let’s see… Malcolm in the Middle and Raising Hope?
on the other hand, there’s arrested development and andy richter, two great shows that fox gave a s hot but couldn’t find an audience.
raising hope got renewed for season 2.
Didn’t the Modern Family pilot open with the family attending a little league baseball game?
